Stanford vs. Cal

This is "The Big Game", one of the nation's oldest rivalries.

Rarely does it have much national importance and is usually biggest game for both teams just because of its history. This year it's huge for Stanford, and Cal would like nothing more than to knock the Cardinal out of the Top 10.

Stanford should win this game as a 6 point (I think) favorite, but there are several things working against them.

Cal has dominated this game for the past decade, even when Stanford was favored (last year).
Cal sucks on the road but has been a totally different team at home.
Cal has big motivation to ruin Stanford's dream season.

Other things to consider:
Cal manned up last week in a losing effort against Oregon. Did they shoot their wad last week or will they still be ready for Stanford?
It will probably be raining at game time. Stanford's Heisman candidate QB Andrew Luck didn't have any problem in the rain in Seattle but that was on fake grass. I think Memorial Stadium has grass.
Both teams have decent ground games, Stanford averaging 213 yards with "tailback by committee" and Cal 160 relying almost completely on Shane Vereen.
Cal's starting QB is still out, I think, so they will depend even more on Vereen.
On paper, Stanford looks better on offense and they're very close on defense. But Cal's home field performance makes all of those stats pretty misleading.

This game really scares me but I'll still go with Stanford because Harbaugh is a great motivator and Luck is a great leader who does not get rattled.

Stanford 34
Cal 20

Yeah, not quite so scared now.

Last three possessions have resulted in TD drives of 95,86 and 90 yards.

Turnover #3. Let's make it 31-0 at halftime.

Doug Baldwin is one of the best college WRs I've seen in a while. Two amazing catches so far today.

31-0

Didn't touch it in the Pick'em Big Game, for the sole reason that Kal is at home.

#1 home field defense in the country (by a decent margin, IIRC).

Whole nother team at home. Stink on the road.

But my gut was that Stanford would roll, just thought there were better picks.

That may change after today.

At 38-0 they're featuring the run even more, and picking up decent yards.

Poor Oregon St -- already at #2 in SoS, and they finish up with USC, Stanford, and Oregon.

Papa Willie wrote:Stanford cheated the whole game. They held Cal players at gun point and forced them to change uniforms before the beginning of the game (because Stanford knew they would lose), so it was actually CAL'S players in Stanford's uniforms. Cal wins. You watch - they'll find out more about this in the next few days.

All you have to do is go to the dressing rooms and see which team has windchimes hanging in their lockers.....that and see which team takes vaseline to the showers.

USA Today poll still has them behind Whisky, LSU and tOSU.

But, what the hell, there's just no love for the PAC 10 from people who don't actually watch any games except for their own and their potential opponents'.

What 5 stars are left?
Barkley is done for the year, Galipo was done 2 back surgeries ago, Kenard is playing out of position, Gable in the dog house, Bradford is injured, Tyler has been done since the middle of his senior season at Oaks Christian and the savior from San Diego is ineligible because he got a ride in a golf cart.

I think Notre Dame and UCLA will beat this hapless, unmotivated, gutless, spineless, no hate in their heart Trojan team.
On a positive side, I sold my tickets to this weeks game so I dont have to subject my family and self to watching that abortion of a Trojan Football team scab dick it on the field

A real football fan sticks by their team no matter what.
Take it easy on Schmick. He's got more important things to do than watch USC football........things like watching hot chicks that he could never get roller blade near the beach, driving through beautiful neighborhoods with sweet ass homes he could never afford, and breathing in some fresh smog.

I sent my checks, even sent another 1k towards the 100k lights improvement for Dedeaux Field.
There is nothing to cheer for this year, the team sucks and arent motivated to play. As the kids have gotten older, going to USC games has become less and less important, add to the team being less than mediocre and you can see why we are not making the trek up to LA 6 weekends this year. Still went to 2 games, thats more than a lot of fans/alumns on here have gone to their schools games.

But now you're turning on them. You're a piss-poor fan.
Turning on them would be cheering for someone else, Id never cheer for another team, I wont even watch games that dont involve USC. I just find something else to do. Last saturday I went down to the harbor to help my parents put lights on their boat for the Xmas parade, will probably do the same this weekend

Dude, I hope you're joking. The trek up to LA? What's that, 50 miles (maybe) for you? Try having to go ten times that distance for a home game for your school.
Still went to 2 games, thats more than a lot of fans/alumns on here have gone to their schools games.
I didn't make it to any this year. A 500-mile trip to campus and two young kids at home tend to do that to you. If I lived 50 miles from campus, I probably would've been at every game, or at least at every game I had tickets to see.
