“It was never about me doing it again,” McCartney said. “It was about setting the table for a black man to come in (as head coach). And (Bohn) hired one. Now, give him a chance.”

McCartney also gave Bohn credit for hiring “outstanding black leaders.”

CU officials are denying any offer to Embree. This whole thing has gone in the dumper pretty fast. McCartney claiming to have manipulated the process for these ends? Mac also publicly apologized yesterday for his homosexuals are "an abomination against God" comments in 1992. Strange stuff. CU fans are little perplexed, upset at McCartney's weird insertion of himself (sic) into the process.

overall, parochial and amateurish stuff from the CU AD IMO. I thought it would be Bienemy, to be honest. Embree is a pretty underwhelming choice. Amazingly, the Buff homer boards were melting when they thought Troy Calhoun was the front-runner....and he withdrew his name. Objectively speaking, Calhoun's resume is 10 times stronger than Embree's. Embree is a career position coach....passed over for OC at CU and UCLA. Seriously, who else wants Embree as their HC?

Mac was always standing a little too close to the bong. He'd do well to look into a PR guy, or better yet, just keep his yapper closed.

That was exactly my reaction. I suppose after paying that asshole Hawkins nearly $2 fucking million to go away, Embree was all they could afford.

while it is perplexing why McCartney put himself out ahead of the process, went public with Embree's name, and then pats himself on the back for being a "race warrior" with his master plan.....to be fair, McCartney has no official position at CU and the statement is from him. It's also possible that Mac is living in his own hero mind with this....like semi-bonkers, self-deifying.

CU has a solid "minority" hiring history so I doubt there was any pressure or mandate to hire a "black man" given the perilous situation of the football program. More concerning is the lack of any true "outside the McCartney era family" candidates....other than Calhoun and Jim McElwain. CU fan seems locked in a self-defeating cycle of nostalgia. Embree is said to be working on a very good, experienced staff....and they'll need it because on it's own an Embree hire isn't serving notice that CU is a program about to run things in the Pac.

edit: additionally, it's my opinion that Mac's statement hurts Embree and undermines him a bit from the get-go since it makes his hiring appear to be about race and not his qualifications. So, Mac giveth....Mac taketh away. Mac hurts CU by shooting his mouth off and trivializing the hiring process as a sham orchestrated by Mac himself, and he hurts Embree. the only one who benefits is Mac's assertion that he was the driver in the hiring process. self-glorification? pub hog?

Eric Bienemy as AHC and OC? This is a sure case of too many Schwartzers wanting to be HNIC. Only a matter of time

I think Embree's a better hire than Calhoun would've been. We've already been down the whole "overachieving coach from a mid-major program" road. I'll take a guy with NFL ties over that. I would've liked to see them take a run at Leach, but his name never even came up. I'm not disappointed with the hire, but I'm not throwing a party either. Let's see what kind of staff he puts together, what he does in recruiting, and, most importantly, how the team performs on the field. We don't have Montana St. on the schedule next year, do we?

Calhoun was a coach in the NFL. I also think that his resume is far more solid than Hawkins' was. So, i sorta think the "over-achieving mid-major" thing is apples/oranges with TC and Danny.

Calhoun has been an OC in the "League" and a BCS conference team (Wake, led the ACC in yards)....and now a HC that's 33-16 at Air Force. Dan was a TE coach in the WAC. But, I get it....no CU fan was excited by Calhoun for whatever reason vs. a back to the past hire. Objectively, I think TC is a pretty good coach who will succeed somewhere.

I think the "tandem" idea could be problematic as Cuda suggests. Bienemy doesn't seem like the easiest guy to get along with and someone has to have final authority. too many cooks....
