The Doors at their best rocked. Jim Morrison at his worst was a self indulgent and self destructive twat.

Even in the Touch Me vid, dude can't sing in time.
Obviously was very dependent on the studio.

Perhaps, but if you could make it thru the first two minutes, the dude blaring on the sax at the end would make it worth your time.

Have you ever tried to sing a Doors song at a karaoke bar? I'd rather endure waterboarding. Morrison had a time signature that was entirely his own. Even his studio material reflects that.
I've also noticed when listening to Doors bootlegs that the first 1 or 2 songs are the most clusterfucked of the set. After that, Morrison gets his "stage legs" and settles into his groove. Which is only slightly less off tempo.

I've never tried to sing any song by anyone at a karaoke bar, thank you.
Although I have a vague memory of putting on a rather epic dance routine to someone else singing at a karaoke bar that was in a different part of the state from where I live... because work roadies should be enjoyed.
I don't think my liver could have taken too many more years of working out of town.

I won a contest at a bar in 1981 singing Gimme 3 Steps. I had a lot of friends there thankfully and none of us had ever heard of karaoke. I have no idea what it was called then as I was pretty drunk at the time. I met my future wife there while she was playing Pac-Man. She was damn good at it.

Karaoke bars do have their place -- if the RBL* gets too ingrained, count on a karaoke bar to host an assortment of drunk middle aged chicks with serious self-of-steam issues.

They are truly a target rich environment. And having one within walking distance when I was single was pretty much like having a pussy slot machine next door. You always knew something would pop up. And if you can sing in key and perhaps with some amount of swagger, well then even an ugly mug like mine can get some.
