Will a 7-9 team win the NFC West?

I really want it to happen  The closest we've come to a 7-9 team making the playoffs was when Dallas had that record in 1990 and needed the Rams to lose on Monday night in the last week of the season to the Saints. New Orleans and Hebert won, and the Saints got the wild card at 8-8.

Let's break this down, as the Seahawks and Rams both sit at 6-6.

Seattle's remaining schedule:

at SF - this is a toss-up since it's a division game on the road.
vs. ATL - loss
at Tampa Bay - loss
vs. STL- another toss up that will most likely determine division winner.

Seattle will lose EITHER the SF or STL game and finish 7-9.

St. Louis' remaining schedule:

@ NO- loss
vs. KC- toss-up since it's at home and the Chiefs are frauds
vs. SF- I'll give the edge to the Rams
at Seattle- well, in order for a 7-9 team to win the division, the Seahawks would need to win this game but lose the next three including the one at SF next week. So that game is huge and scares the hell out of me. The Rams would need for Bradford to make some rookie mistakes and lose at least one of those home games.

So let's hope that both teams lose next week so that they can stay on pace and both finish 7-9 with there being some tiebreaker where all the team captains have to have some kind of aardvark carcass-eating contest before getting their stools pushed in on wild card weekend.

If I was going to bet, I'd bet one of them goes 8-8.

I guess that 10-6 home win against the Broncos proved me wrong :?

At least when the Chiefs were 13-3 in the Vermeil era they were rolling up teams with that precision offense before getting exposed in the playoffs at Arrowhead. This team is squeaking by shit teams while playing in a horrible division. Whoever lines up to play them in the first round basically has a bye.

Interesting KC stat is that they have only turned the ball over 9 times in 12 games.
That is taking care of the ball.

And when you combined that with them being the 9th highest scoring team in the league, it's pretty impressive.
They are very mediocre talent-wise, imo, so this is all definitely a credit to their coaching.

I think they'll lose @ SD this Sunday.
If that happens, things might get a little tight for them, and it could come down to them needing to beat Oakland at home in the season finale in order to make the playoffs.

Choke much?

Paul is well aware that KC is a fraud. Croyle may start tomorrow so that fucks 'em deeper.

Chargers will be just a game back and then the choke is really on.

Should be pretty funny.

Worst case scenario for Niner fans is them finishing 8-8 or 7-9. Either scenario means they either make or almost make the playoffs, meaning we get another year of Dingleberry and his inexplicable undying loyalty to Alex Smith.

I give the coaching staff credit for one thing: Even when the team was 1-6, the players were still giving max effort. But no measure of effort or talent can overcome 27 predictable runs up the middle and zero-gain swing passes.

And although the safeties never saw an out-and-up that they didn't bite on, our defensive problems have been virtually all bad schemes, baffling simple 4th quarter zone coverage calls EVERY FUCKING PLAY and players confused about what to do. In other words: coaching.

I think Singletary ultimately will end up being a successful coach somewhere, but he needs to spend a few seasons as a D coordinator/assistant head coach so he can learn that the job involves more than deciding whether to punt or kick a field goal. You know...little things, like designing an offense around the players you have. Instead, his philosophy has been, "I'm going to call runs up the middle until the cows come home and when it doesn't work, it'll embarrass the line into blocking better." How's that workin out for you, Mike? Oh yeah, 30th in offense and points scored and your starting running back who touched the ball on 60% of the plays is out for the year. Or, in other words: Epic FAIL.

One last thing, I need to swallow a healthy spoonful of crow and acknowledge that mvscal was right about Singletary on all counts.

Well, all four of these dipshits lost this week.

49ers now 5-9, while the Rams and Seahawks sit at 6-8. The games this coming week scare the living shit out of me. The Bucs just lost to the Lions so they might lose to Seattle. It's in Tampa so that will help. The 49ers better show up and win. I'm worried about that one and think that they will lost to the Rams at the Georgia Dome. FUCK. We need at LEAST one of those teams to lose to make this thing doable before the Rams/Seahawks matchup in Week 17. If BOTH win, we're fucked.

The Seahawks are a gutless and inconsistent team. The Lions fought hard and played like a team with nothing to lose and scraped out a tough win on the road against borderline playoff team. The Bucs have just as much to play for next week as Seattle...they'll rebound and beat them. With the Packers and Giants both losing, the Bucs stay in the mix for a wild card.

I wouldn't say he's bad, he's just a less-mobile Donovan McNabb...300 yds one week and 3 picks the next.

Everything pretty much came to pass the way I said that it needed to. I figured that whole thing out.

Rack the Seahawks for following suit!
