Wow, I remember when he had to split time with Craig Morton, as his career in Dallas was winding down.
That was the backstory that North Dallas 40 was based on- except it was Roger Staubach, not Craig Morton

In the book, Staubach was the basis for the goody-2-shoes QB and Meredith was the hard drinking veteran- although Morton was a big time partier too. And Dan Reeves was the player/coach that everybody despised and he knew it.

In real life Staubach was still in the Navy when Meredith was a player.

ND40 wasn't a documentary, dumbshit. Names were changed, etc, etc... but it was fairly obvious who the characters were based on in real life

"Turn out the lights, the party's over" is right up there with "when the fat lady sings".

Dandy Don will be missed, even for people who hate the Cowboys.

RIP

How appropriate this happens and then the news comes out on a Monday during football season. I hope they do an appropriate tribute to him on air tonight.

As a kid, I couldn't fucking wait to watch MNF.

Pete Gent never played with Staubach either. But he did play with Morton.
