I will miss his bitch excuses for losing games.
New coaches at UF and the U?
Look for FSU, UGA, AU and bama to load up on Florida talent this February.

I'd imagine he retires - at least for a bit. This year could NOT have been good for his ticker...
Fuck that shit. You could see this coming after the SEC Championship game last year when he got his ass handed to him with 21 returning starters from a national championship team. He’s taking his ball and going home at the first sign of adversity in his coaching career. He’s a person with low moral fiber and this Favre-esq stunt just reinforces that opinion.

Ohio State will be raiding as well. A few current UF recruits had tOSU in their top 2.

I agree it does APPEAR to be a "taking his ball and going home". But maybe not. Maybe there's something we don't know.
I thought the same thing as Mucho when I heard this story. Weird timing with Josh McDaniels being fired this week. Kyle isn't going to be losing his starting spot, though. Nor should he.

While I would agree that it looks that way I think that there may be something bigger looming on the horizon in light of the Cam Newton affair.
Dan McCarney left his staff to be the head coach at North Texas, which is basically a step down from what he was doing at UF. When I heard that McCarney left there I mentioned it to one of my co-workers who knows him well and he said, "he's getting out at the right time".

Nice, Sam!
I agree the SEC speed is far greater than in the Big-10 usually- except for tOSU.
The 2006 Florida-tOSU game was not won because of speed. I saw both of those teams in person (well, I saw Florida's team in person in 2005) and Florida was not a faster team.
Ohio State has a ton of skill position players drafted by the NFL. In fact, probably more than Florida.
The media makes so much shit up. Give me a break. Ohio St has never lined up against an opponent that beat them because they were too fast. Anyone that believes that is more clueless than War Wagon.

Mucho,

Run that by Troy Smith and his offensive line.
I'm talking skill positions. Troy Smith is not a slow QB, by the way. You're talking about power. For whatever reason, Florida- on that day- was able to overpower Ohio State. I really think that game was more due to Ohio State having so much time off winning awards and being told how great they are and that they will stomp Florida. Meyer was able to play the underdog card to really motivate his team. Ohio State took Florida too lightly in that game and weren't prepared.
Now, the game against LSU.........they were just beaten by a more experienced and more talented team. Ohio State was overrated all year in 2007 due to playing a very soft schedule. LSU was a poorly coached football team that was the most talented team in the nation. They had 2 losses, which was pathetic even with that difficult of a schedule. But there were no unbeatens and the 1-loss teams (outside of MAYBE USC) weren't any good. It was a game of LSU just being way too talented and experienced for Ohio State. Wasn't a fair match-up. God damn, Les Miles is one lucky mother fucker. If it weren't for luck, he would be coaching in the Sun Belt conference.

It wasn't power, Florida was faster along both lines and at linebacker.
Everyone has speed at the skill positions. Yes, even Notre Dame. Where they lack speed/quickness is along the lines.

Ohio State had under 100 yards of offense. The slowest, crappiest offense in the country will get more than 100 yards against the fastest and best offense. That tells me they just weren't prepared and were rusty after the 40 days off. But that's how bowl games can be, and that's why they are a joke. Our national championship games suck 2 out of 3 years for this exact reason.
You really think Florida was THAT much better and faster than Ohio State and that had nothing to do with rust and a more prepared Florida team? Come on........80-90 yards (or whatever it was they had)? Ohio State's offense with Antonio Pittman, Troy Smith, Ted Ginn, Anthony Gonzalez, Beanie Wells, and a couple offensive linemen that are in the NFL really wasn't good enough to do better than that? 1-AA schools put up better performances against Top 10 BCS conference teams than Ohio State did on that day.
I'm not saying Florida wasn't faster off the edges than Ohio State. I would agree with that. But this game had nothing to do with speed and everything to do with Ohio State just not being ready to play and Urban just flat outcoaching Tressel. I'm not saying Ohio State didn't play hard, I'm just saying they didn't show up ready to play. They spent 40 days winning awards, getting ready for the NFL draft, and being told how awesome they were. Florida spent a month being told they have no shot and used it as motivation.
Florida's alleged speed on offense didn't really do all that much in this game, by the way. They scored 41 because of their defense. The offense had the ball the entire game because tOSU went 3 and out or turned it over every possession, and I don't recall them racking up an insane amount of yards. So their offensive speed must not have been a major issue for the Buckeyes.
Here is what Meyer said after the game:
Meyer had a word for the critics who demeaned the Gators.
"I'd like to thank all those people. Our pregame speech was easy," he said.
I'm not taking anything away from what Florida did, but it was very similar to the 1996 national title they won. It's amazing what can change after teams have had a month or longer away from playing football. Florida State beat Florida the final game of the regular season and then lost to them 52-20 in the championship game a little over a month later. Was Florida really 32 points better than FSU that year? No. This is why I hate our system. I want legit championship games between teams that are fresh. You don't get that in this system.

Correct.
It was won because The Mob OBVIOUSLY got to their left guard (whatever his name is).
Obviously.
What other explaination is there for a guy stepping out of the way on just about every passing down?
That was one rigged motherfucker.

I'm hinting at the NCAA might be looking into UF's recruiting practices while Meyer was there.

Meyer is running from the NCAA, the pay for play with Pouncey ruling is on the way and after he started talking about scam newtons academics at Florida, the FBI got involved. His one savior will be Florida alumn Paul Dee heading up the NCAAs infractions committee

Low moral fiber? Maybe. Or maybe you can take him at his word that he has missed seeing his kids grow up and wants to attend his daughter's volleyball games and his son's athletic contests.....and just spend more time with his family. He's right in saying that you can't get the years back and maybe, just maybe, he is giving up the 24/7 job to spend time with his family. I would not in any way compare myself to Urban Meyer, but I gave up coaching after last season for the same reasons. I saw my daughter play 1-2 softball games a year while I was coaching baseball and felt guilty, as I should, for missing her events. I tried to make up for it in other ways during my off season, but it's impossible to get back that time with your kids. My father was also diagnosed with bladder cancer last summer, which is yet another good reason for me to be more available to spend time with him. If he's being honest about the reasons he is resigning, then his moral fiber is anything but "low". I can completely understand his decision and applaud him for stepping down for all of the right reasons.

Sorry for the "jonstat" here, but I've always said 99.9% of all college coaches are fucking bullshit snake-oil salesmen who will do anything to win, and they truly don't give a shit about their players once they walk out the door. Meyer is of the same cloth. He's bailing on Florida before the shit hits the fan ala Pete Carrol.
Remember, we were all conspiracy theorists (sans Van and SoCalVanTroll) when we were discussing U$C until the NCAA dropped the hammer to validate what we were saying all along.
And anyone with a "Link?"reply can shove it up their ass. My answer is "wait and see".

I just mean on this board..."until"...nothing about the NCAA surprises me. Lord knows, OU fan has no innocence there (and neither does Jackie Sherrill btw). nor do i pretend otherwise.

A&M has 7 major infractions. We deserved punishment for each of them. I don't preach that A&M doesn't cheat. I just preach that if you get caught, you should pay. And the last thing I would EVER do is drop the "well, everybody does it" line that is so prevalent here. I know everybody does it. That doesn't give you a get out of jail free card though if you get caught.
Jackie Sherrill, the fuck that he is, did have one funny quote. It was something like "They hired me and asked me to win. They never said how."
