(!) MSU vs Bama (!)

Well, Sam, seeing as it's about that time I ventured over to one of the Bama boards to see what folks were saying about the game. Felt like I planted myself into a muck I couldn't get out of. Page after page of nothing but Auburn/Cam Newton shit. Let's just say the obsession indeed runs deep down there. Finally I got to page 4 and found a topic on the Capital One bowl. There were a total of about 5 posts. The extent of the analysis in each post was: Roll Tide. I suppose when there's a line out the door at the local library for computer time, you've got to keep it short.

Seriously, though. There is one thing I will say about you people. Passionate as can be, but dumber than a box of singed pubic hair when it comes to football. Well, ignorant, to be more precise. Just in terms of the way-of-the-world in college football. How shit works, etc. Oh, and football outside the SEC, of course. It seems plenty of folks down there still think a couple of dead rivals are running the Big Ten.

I needed an escape from this horseshit, and perhaps even my own ignorant stereotypes, so I attempted to cleanse the experience with a quick ogling of some hot Bama chicks. After typing "hot bama chick" into Google images I swear to god this was one of the first images to pop up:

Image

But it didn't end there:

Image

Sweet mother of god. This is what happens when you splice shutyomouth with Rumplewife with a trucker and a dirty sanchez.

On that theme, other Bama fans showed up:

Image

Sam, when did you grow out your beard?

And then there's just pure class:

Image

So then I got to thinkin' about the game. How in the hell is MSU going to match up with the superior athletes of the University of Alabama:

Image

Yeah, the guy was good. Which worries me. If you field vats of lard that can play ball, I'm a little worried about your guys who actually know what a bench press is.

MSU's best receiver, BJ Cunningham, broke his foot in practice and will not play in the game. That's the only excuse I got lined up...but it's not much of one. Fortunately MSU is deep at the offensive skill positions, so while his reliable pass catching skills will be missed, they got another guy with some experience who can step in.

From what I understand one of Bama's biggest weaknesses is pass protection. That surprises me with the lines you guys tend to build down there. Only problem for MSU is that one of their biggest weaknesses happens to be generating a pass rush...so that pretty much cancels out.

I'd say JJ is pretty much gonna have a field day, which is fine. Just contain Bama's stable of RBs, and MSU should be ok. Which I think they can do. Rush d is something they've been consistently good at this year.

I think if Bama plays to their full potential for 4 quarters, they win somewhere between 7-13 points. The problem is they really haven't done that at all this year, from what I gather. They appear to be a poor 2nd half team, and MSU has been dominant in the 2nd half of games. So that should be interesting.

My prediction:

Alabama 30
Michigan State 24

One of the top 4 teams in the SEC against one of the top 3 teams in the Big 10. Sounds pretty fair to me.

Anyone who has ever actually visited Tuscaloosa knows the toothless fat chick meth is untrue. Not unlike the one that Texass fan tries to perpetrate about Norman.

4th place SEC West vs Big Ten co-champ.
I know you like that point. You're playing a "co-champ" because the 10 was dumb enough to construct a conference that could have 3 champs to begin with. The other reason you're playing a co-champ is because the Fiesta Bowl is contractually obligated to take UCONN.

As Goobs said, a more reasonable way to look at it is the SEC #3 or #4 vs the Big Ten #3. Even if the SEC was at any perceived disadvantage when it comes to match ups, you guys pretty much get to play the games in your own backyard, so that would wash out.
I feel for your guys...they must be feeling like the Tide did against Utah 2 years ago. Built-in excuse if you lose.
No way. I absolutely HATE that excuse, and have railed against "that fan" over the years. I know that motivation is a factor in sports, but nobody can really claim to know who is motivated and who isn't. Plus I think the whole letdown factor is more of an issue during the regular season, when you only have a few days to recover. After a disappointing regular season, however, a team has basically a month to get over it and heal their bruised vaginas. Time heals all wounds, etc. The bowl season is basically like a brand new season. Everbody is 0-0. I'd like to think once that ball is snapped, nobody gives a fuck about what happened 4-5 weeks ago, and it's time to play ball. For the most part...

Even then, I couldn't use that excuse if I wanted to. From interviews I've read and heard, the team appears to be genuinely pumped about playing Bama.

Sudden Sam wrote:I simply meant that your guys could be so disappointed about not being in Pasadena that there'd be a letdown, but I agree with you...there's really no excuse for that after so much time has elapsed since the previous game.
Yeah, 5 weeks will have passed since the team realized it wasn't going to the Rose Bowl. Some people can get over their dead mother in that amount time, and here we're talking about a damn football game. No excuses.

I would think the layoff also kills any momentum a team may have built late in the season. Which is why the "games later in the season are more important" argument is bullshit, except when talking about rankings.
Yep, this is THE game I'm really looking forward to. Miss State-Michigan would be extremely interesting, but I've got to concentrate on the Tide and Spartans. I heard there are a couple more games after the UA-MSU, but I ain't sure.
Afternoon on NYD there will be 4 games on at once that I'd like to watch individually, yet I get FIU/Toledo, Troy/Ohio in all its primetime, non-competing glory. Good exposure for the little guys. Bad for the fans.

I sold the Notre Dame-MSU one for quite a nice bit o' change after holding onto that thing for 42 years!
I've still got a program from the '66 Iowa-Northwestern game......"change" might be all it's worth. It's more fun going through the Iowa roster and, other than Ed Podolak, deciding what insurance company the players went to work for after college.

They're not. But the schools whose teams they used to coach are.

Spray,

If bammers don't care about anything but the Auburn game, why have they fabricated claimed 13 MNCs?

Your statement does remind me they have paid Saban 16 million to go 2-2 against their in-state rival.

And Auburn paid Cam Newton $180,000 to go 1-0 against 'bama. Sounds like Auburn got the better return for their dollar....at least in the short term.

MSU offensive coordinator took the Miami of Ohio job today. Don't know why they couldn't just wait one or two more days.

Agreed -- they could fix it by altering the recruiting periods. Seems that simple to me, but I'm sure someone will point out some complication with it.

Question:

How come they don't flag Ingram or Richardson for pointing to the crowd after scoring?

Is this OK but a "salute" isn't? What, exactly, does the celebration rule say?

Props to Bama on the win. Just the vastly better team. I was hoping MSU would at least make it respectable, but I guess that's asking too much.

This game is over. Take away the run and force Cousins to pass in a come from behind effort and it will ony get worse. Good season, Sparty, but this one is going to end uglier than the Iowa game. So far, my picks are looking good. MSU losing to 'Bama, Michigan losing to Miss. State, and PSU hanging in there against Florida. Not as good a day as I was hoping for, but about what I expected.

I wouldn't worry about it, Goobs. You're playing TCU, not Alabama. This is the best team in the country when they bring their A game.

If TCU can shut down your run game, and I don' think they can, we will see a similar result. I don't expect that to happen.

Their 4-2-5 defense is designed to shut down all of the spread offenses they face in the Big Sky Conference. We should be able to run the ball all day long. Should.

Northwestern is at least fighting back in the second half. If Sparty could do the same they'd have a chance. Alabama won't play 4 full quarters against a good team.

All... zero of them they faced?

As to the celebration flags -- pretty sure the enforcement of celebration stuff varies pretty wildly from conference to conference. They generally let it slide in the PAC after a TD, so long as it isn't directed at an opposing player or the opposing bench/fans.

Of course, it's quite possible the PAC refs don't even know what the rules are, which wouldn't surprise any PAC fans. While we homer for our conference like any red-blooded BTPCFB fan does, you won't ever hear a PAC fan claiming "our refs are better than yours," although we might argue that they're worse than yours -- and we'll win that argument every time.

Do we get to siphon off some B12 and MWC refs in the realignment? That would be nice.
