This winter he'll be taking his talents to Ann Arbor.

If you see him wearing gold, sorry maize, and blue tonight you'll know what his decision was.

He'd be fuckdumb not to go to the NFL. He'll make a ton more money in the NFL, and he will always have a place in college once he fails in the NFL.

There's always the possibility that he might... want to stay at Furd.
But after the game, what are the odds he decks the first reporter who asks him about his Decision?

I read that they're offering to raise his compensation to $3 million per, some of it deferred. Still not as much public money as UM is willing to offer, but getting closer.

A guy (don't know his name) just noted that Harbaugh's price may take UM out of the running....I find that hard to believe.

Why will Harbaugh fail in the NFL? He knows the game very well. His brother is a successful NFL head coach. He played in the NFL. He runs a pro-style offense. He can relate to professional athletes well. Seems to be a perfect fit for the right NFL franchise.
Harbaugh is not your typical college coach.

The ESPN honks don't seem to have much respect for The Tree.
Fuck 'em. Holtz has been senile for about 10 years and Mark May is a well known idiot and PAC10 hater.
They'll be eating their words by the end of the first quarter.

It will take more than that to eliminate the NFL. Especially if he likes the Bay area...

Law of averages. Most successful coaches had a bit of FAIL before they were good. The Not For Long league didn't get that nickname for nothing. Damn near all coaches fail in the NFL. Give me 5 head coaches in the NFL who have been head coaches for more than 5 years who have not had a fail. Take your time. Maybe ask some of those intelligent hairlips you hang out with.

Funny how those guys completely forget their pre-game comments and act like they weren't at all surprised at the result.

Soild take.
The NFL landscape is a tougher place for a head coach.
Nearly
all of them get humbled at some point.

Sadly, it appears that's how it will go. The Freep is reporting it's unlikely he'd leave for Michigan.
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti ... ullarticle
Considering the state of things in Ann Arbor, he'd have his work cut out for him and the pressure will be ten (thousand?)-fold. If he can get a get cushy NFL gig and possibly hook up again with his boy Luck...Michigan won't be able to compete. An interesting angle mentioned is Elway recently joining the Broncos front office and could the Broncos be the team to step up and get him...the Stanford alum tapping a fellow QB and the coach of his alma mater.
The name mentioned as the next option...and not a surprise...is Brady Hoke. It wasn't the news I wanted to wake up to but it wasn't like Michigan was the only horse in this race.

only somewhat true....the job security in the NFL once you've been a HC is nearly inexhaustible. you can get fired 2, 3, even 4 times and still find a job in "the League" somewhere...and often, a 2nd shot at HC.

Harbaugh plans to decide this week whether he wants to take a job in the NFL. If he stays in college coaching, he has decided he will stay at Stanford, where he has built a potential powerhouse. It would take an extreme change of heart for Harbaugh to end up in Ann Arbor, according to the person, who did not want to be identified because Rich Rodriguez is still U-M's coach.
bode, mikey.
for the realz, i at least hope brandon at least asks harbaugh who he'd hire as a defensive coordinator. dickrod can stay, he just can't have a say in who runs the defense.

Hell, rumors are circling that the Browns are giving Marty Mornhinweg a serious look for HC.

I think he's done. There's a team mtg at 7pm which follows the RR/DB mtg this afternoon (2ish). If RR is whacked, I think there is a coach already in the fold (Hoke?)...they cannot afford a prolonged search. They can't have guys turning them down ala Miles, Schiano etc.

For while I've been
thinking hoping that Harbaugh might stay just to be contrary. He's like that, and understandably somewhat PO'd that everybody has him moving somewhere else before he's even decided to leave. I thought it was pretty cool, actually, when he basically told the interviewer at the trophy presentation to SFTU and focus on the team's accomplishment.

He handled the media brilliantly...he stiff armed the skirt on the field, deflected Reece Davis at the trophy ceremony, and cut off the hack in the presser. Rack him. The latest was that if he stays in the college ranks, he stays at Stanford. Given the state of the labor negotiations in the nfl that gives Stanford more hope than they had yesterday.

Latest local sportstalk rumor......
Big money boosters want Harbaugh and will pony up necessary jack to bring him in.
Brandon wants Hoke.
Mary Sue Coleman (prez) doesn't want JH because of dui, messy divorce, academic comments etc.
Therefore Brandon is feigning interest in JH to appease the boosters (how thiey could be fooled is beyond me), and when JH goes the nfl route Hoke comes in.
I hope it's all bunk and Jimmy comes back to AA with all his enthusiasm and fire.

That all sounds plausible.
Harbaugh is the "people's choice". Hoke is probably the practical choice if they want to go the "Michigan man" route. As far as making it public...Hoke wants that job the more...but we don't know Harbaugh's true feelings and I think we'll know soon what he thinks of that job. To me, if Harbaugh doesn't take it...Hoke would work because he "gets it" being a former assistant and he's a coach that has done some nice things at two small programs. I don't think you take a chance on another coach from a smaller program other than Hoke because of his background with the Michigan program.
I don't see Les Miles coming here...just a hunch. If he didn't come here the first time, he's not coming now. The other option I'd like is Gary Patterson. Between TCU and Boise State...I've been more impressed with how well-rounded the TCU teams have been the last couple years. Peterson is a solid coach but I don't want to see another guy bringing a wacky offense to Ann Arbor. Patterson is more a straight-forward guy and from watching him play a Big Ten-style game to beat Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl...that's a guy I'd be comfortable with in a big game. He'd translate well to the Big Ten.
I think Harbaugh is the most appealing choice is because of the success he's had at Stanford and you can't help but love the way his team plays. He's a coach that puts out a team that matches his energy and intensity. He knows what the Michigan State and Ohio State games mean to each season and you know damn well that his squads wouldn't roll over and die the way RichRod's teams did in the big games while he was here. Hoke wouldn't be a candidate if he didn't have Michigan ties. He'd be just some guy and probably wouldn't be mentioned. The fact that he does understand the program gives him an edge over other guys because you saw what a pretty darn successful coach like Rodriguez walk in and he looked completely out of place and in over his head.
A big name doesn't necessarily matter although if gives them some instant pop. You just want a guy that understands what the fanbase expects and he respects the rivalries and the tradition of the program and wants to take it back to where Carr left and then take it to another level. I want to see this team get back to playing great defense, running the ball with authority and having a future-NFL QB under center. Where Lloyd had the program was good but I'd like to see a forward-thinking and more energetic guy raise it up another level. I'm tired of the Sweater Vest wearing this team out every November in recent memory and I want to see Captain Red Ass and his Sparties to go back to being #2 in the state.

Until he says No, I wouldn't rule out Harbaugh just yet. He's been known as somewhat of a firecracker type personality and I wouldn't be at all surprised by any move at this point.

Reports that Rich Rodriguez has been fired are premature. TheWolverine.com has learned that no decision on the Michigan head coach's future will come until tomorrow.
The players' meeting that had been scheduled for tonight at 7:00 p.m. has been delayed until tomorrow at 4:00.

eh, i hope so. i know we have people like shoalzie who are the cfb equivalent of those right-wing christian buttfucks who yearn for a return to some halcyon days that never existed, but a return to lloyd-ball is not the answer. we spent most years under carr in the bottom half of big ten rushing offenses. dickrod took three years to put together the second best rushing attack even though he was working with a first-year starter and no clear #1 back.
the problem is obviously defense. he brought a scheme to the big ten he insisted would work but hasn't as well as an organizational strategy (hey you, stand around while all your assistants coach a scheme you're wholly unfamiliar with) that is, well, confounding. it's perfectly fine to go apeshit on him for this, but every other coach in the history of the multiverse who's been on the hot seat for the first time was given a second chance as long as he was willing to jettison his assistants, so why not dickrod? fire the defensive staff, bring in someone who runs a 4-3, let him hire his own assistants, and then let dickrod have at it with his first fully functioning, mature offense, especially considering next year's schedule sets up for a nice run. would be a shame to waste it on a transition to brady hoke.
and really, brady hoke? great, he did well in the mac. tell me who hasn't? aside from a few black holes (go eastern!), it's the easiest conference to resurrect some shitty team. happens so often it's part of the conference's profile. and great, eeking out wins at sdsu against wyoming and colorado state. his other selling point is nepotism. great, he "understands" the culture at michigan, which means he'll be a bit more sad than dickrod's been after yet another loss to osu.
