I started playing the lottery

A few weeks ago I began. There are three reasons why.
One is our family household financial pinch. Things have gotten pretty tough lately. I admit that idea of hitting a one time big payday is attractive. It's sort of a fantasy.
Two is the sport and excitement of it. I usually watch the drawing on television and it's really fun to watch while holding my tickets and seeing the numbers.
Three is I researched what the lottery income is used for and it is good causes. Schools. Road maintenance. Other projects. I like to contribute to that.
I've been playing twice a week and buying five tickets each time. So it is ten dollars a week. Forty dollars a month. If I never win that is fine. I consider it my own extra tax to my community which I am happy to give. It's my basic belief anyway that we don't pay enough taxes. I know the republican have now taken over half of Washington and we will see taxes get lower. I don't think it's the way to go. We can't pay down the debt that way while at the same time providing the needed services to the people.
Does anyone else play their lottery? Has anyone been a winner?
I have a miserable life and wish I were dead!

I play the lottery every time I log on to T1B.

No.

I consider it my voluntary tax for Florida's schools and sort of a "giving back" from my high school softball umpire's fees. I only play $1 daily on Fantasy 5 and also $1 on Wed/Sat for the 6 number Lotto. I check my numbers on the FL Lottery web site the next morning. I had 5 of 6 numbers on Lotto last year and won $7K and change before taxes. I've had 4 of 5 on Fantasy 5 four times. Once there was a roll down (no winner) and I won $1,200. That was two weeks before my younger daughter's wedding in Las Vegas and paid for dinner for the 20 guests at the hotel after the wedding (good timing). I do not play Powerball or any other games.

I'm going to be straight with you, Dan. Forty dollars a month is a lot of money given your family's penny pinching predicament. You should be looking to cut, not add expenses. You are taking food off your family's table, Dan. And for what? To satisfy some sport? Some competition? Some fantasy that will never come true? You have a problem, Dan. I can tell just through your justifications.
"It helps the community."
Nobody plays the lotto with that reason in mind, Dan. Nobody. It's like the wino who keeps drinking because a glass a day is "good for health."
You have a problem. You are taking from your family in these strict times of need to satisfy your own desires, and you need to address this issue. I'll be getting together with my family tonight and I will ask each and every one of them to pray for you.
Good luck and god bless.

How the states ever got into the gambling business is beyond me.
Take your $40/month habit Dan V. and grow a garden this summer with a very small percentage of that money. Itll keep you and the family busy and in at least somewhat active shape. In addition when your on your hands and knees pulling weeds you cant be spending money.

True, but if he's on his hands and knees he could be making money.

I play the lottery every time I push my throbbing unit into the festering dank germ pit T1B and the FBI call your wife's rectal cavity, Dan. An STD is probable - the chances that my johnson won't be dripping green funk are minute.

Dan already spends enough time on his hands and knees.

Those who want to be negative ninnyes can read Wolfman's answer. He understands it. Anyway if you want to complain that I am taking money away from my family then talk to my wife. Because she insisted we are paying $145 a month for a scooter that now sits in the garage for 4 or 5 months during cold weather. My $40 a month is a benefit to my community. My wife's $145 a month is money right down the drain. I'm still steamed about that and my daughter's braces. Sometimes you can't argue with women. So I keep it to myself.

You're just pissed off
waiting late at night for your wife to finish the threesome she's getting paid for
so you can get in the bed and sleep.

This post saddens me. Here I'm trying to offer you genuine support on a board full of insensitive jokesters and trash talkers, and you label me "negative."
I know the early signs of gambling addiction, Dan. To make matters worse you are pointing to Wolfman to justify your behavior. The classic, "See? He's doing it too" stage of denial. You further rationalize your problem by putting blame on your wife. If your wife is spending money unwisely, you need to sit down and talk with her. What you shouldn't be doing is compounding the problem by throwing MORE money away. Think about the children.
I'll be getting together with my family again tomorrow, and I'll ask that we conduct a prayer circle for your problem, as well as your FAMILY'S problem, which is the burden you've placed on them. Through the strength of prayer, we can overcome this.

Maybe you're trying to be condesending or maybe you're trying to take semi serious but whatever I don't have any gambling problem. I hardly did any gambling in my whole life up until the last few weeks. I told you why I am doing it. I don't think Wolfman has a gambling problem either. A lot of people play the lottery.

I decided to do just that, Dan, since I can't seem to get anywhere with you. This morning I dialed up your wife just to talk and see if I could provide any aid or reassurance during these tough times. Strangely, I was met over the phone with the sounds of shrieking and moaning. Your wife told me she was "getting off" to my voice by placing the phone between her legs with a vice-like grip she perfected through kegel exercises. I tried to be respectful, Dan, and told her this was inappropriate and that ...but she cut me off. She told me she desperately longs for a man, any man. Then what came next shocked me. Your wife told me she wanted me to come over with a bottle of Hershey's chocolate syrup, and I quote, "pour it over my fartbox and tongue that shit like a starving anteater at its last supper."
I'd post the rest, but I just pulled in your driveway. Talk to ya later, bud.

MgoBlue-LightsSpecial you are in the useless category. Take care.
Jsc810 you could be right. I can back down from the $40 a month rate that I use now. At least I can cut it in half and still have fun and feel good about what I am doing. Our finances are not desperate. We just had our monthly income sliced some. It's tight now and we have been behind on our mortgage. I don't really like to think about it. Stress doesn't help at all.
