Are the people of Iran ever going to tople their government? In the limited amount of attention I put on these things, I heard a couple of times last year that this might happen sooner rather than later. I think I heard David Brooks utter something about this.

they gave it a go last year, but, the iranian gestapho is apparently a little more effective than the tunisian or egyptian ones. they've got SEC like speed, strength and size.

The language used Western circles is pretty funny. Rather than 'dictator' he's described as the 'authoritarian president' who's being chided to ease up and please turn the internet back on.

Actually, in this case, I think it's fair distinction. The government's response has been very restrained. A brutal dictatorship would have filled the streets with bodies by now as was done in Iran in 2009 or China in 1989.

Filling streets with bodies is not conducive to garnering billions yearly in U.S. aid. We bought Egypt in 1978 and Mubarak has outlasted a 30 year mortgage. It's a wonder he hasn't been offed by now.

I'm sure Obama had some really stern words for him.

What the fuck do you think we're paying him for? He's supposed to keep a lid on that shithole. Egypt is the largest Arab nation by far and they have a very well equipped army. Think the Muslim Brotherhood couldn't stir up some shit with 1,000 M1A2 Abrams plus 2,300 M60A3s not to mention metric shit tons of APCs and SP artillery? They even fucking build M1 Abrams over there.

And morons like JSC think this is just great.

Blockade the Suez Canal and attack Israel igniting a major regional war on a scale and intensity that hasn't been seen since WW2 for starters. It could very well make Kursk look like a Sunday stroll through the park.

But I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. It's only the most strategically vital real estate on planet earth. I'm sure it'll be fine. We should probably just ignore it and hopefully it will go away.

We've paid Egypt to play nice with Israel and it's worked for the most part.

Best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.

The only thing we really care about there is the Suez Canal.

Once the egyptians are free, they can set up a theocracy that will attack Israel and the US and institute mandatory female circumcision. It'll be epic, right?

Egyptians want a future. They also want to get the birkas back on their women and to get back to attacking Israel.

It's Egypt, not Afghanistan - they'd just go the way of the Turks. You'll pay a few nickels more on Suez shipping and the kikes become a little less obnoxious, big deal.
