My guess is that this won't happen because it was reported by Colin Cowherd. As soon as something he reports is factual, I'll look to see if there are cops flying outside my window.

That's probably more accurate. In 2005 and 2006, he was first in line to toss Charlie Weis's gunt* on his shoulders so he could blow him. In 2007, he flipped on him as soon as other people started to turn on him.

Oregon has won fewer BCS bowls than Utah and hasnt won the bowl game their league champion goes to in over 60 years
South Carolina is as far from being a top 10 program as North Carolina... miles away

other top 10 type programs would be Alabama, Oklahoma, Florida, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska, LSU, Miami, FSU...

I think we've just gained some valuable insight into your "personal struggles," and I'm sure we'll all be a little more sympathetic and compassionate when dealing with you in the future.

They were saying that it may have something to do with an agent in Texas who has been steering players to Oregon. Also heard that it has to do with all the gifts Oregon recruits are getting from trips to Eugene. I hope thats the case, too much Nike schwag winding up in recruits hands and Phil Knight is forced to cut all ties with the program.

the more persistent rumor (rumor) i've seen is Lace Seastrunk, a 5* from Texas who committed to Oregon after everyone else backed off for "some reason".....and Anthony Wallace, a kid who was a solid commit to Arkansas who out of the blue tripped to Cal and UO....then committed to UO. involving these two Texas kids, UO's recruiting of them as the possible situation in question. possibly some questions about Lamichael James, too. Colorado lost a WR Diante Jackson to UO 2 years ago that raised some eyebrows around here....and some net rumblings from the recruiting "gurus". but, i'm just speculating about that.

Deanthony Thomas, solid USC commit was at the Army AA game recruiting players to USC, 2 weeks before signing day he trips to Oregon and comes back to the airport in LA dressed like this

Oregon coaches didnt show any interest in Thomas until Phil told them to go get him, apparently at any cost. Thomas made up some story that he switched to Oregon from USC because he feared for his life after he was a witness to a gang slaying and testified against the killers, like his green light wouldnt follow him to Eugene and if that was the case he would have left town right away. His whole family is supposed to be moving to Oregon with him, they all going to live in the athletes dorm or is a cushy job at Nike waiting for them?

Hearing more and more that it has to do with Chip Kelly and an agent named Baron Flenory who was a player for kelly at UNH and has been delivering Texas based talent to Eugene while drawing an income from Nike, and another agent named Will Lyles who is also based in Texas and has been tied to players from that area winding up at Oregon

The University of Oregon paid more than $28,000 to two men with ties to multiple recruits who signed letters of intent with the school, Yahoo! Sports has learned.

According to State of Oregon expenditure records, the university paid $25,000 to Will Lyles of Complete Scouting Services in Houston, and $3,745 to Baron Flenory of New Level Athletics. Lyles is a former athletic trainer who recently was serving as a mentor to highly touted Ducks running back recruit Lache Seastrunk. Meanwhile, Flenory runs the Badger Sports Elite 7-on-7 football camps which have featured several celebrated Ducks signees including running back DeAnthony Thomas, defensive back Cliff Harris, defensive back Dior Mathis and wideout Tacoi Sumler. Flenory had a personal training relationship with recent Ducks signee Anthony Wallace.

If Lyles and Flenory aided in or were involved in any way in the recruitment of student athletes to Oregon, they would be classified as boosters by the NCAA, and any payment to them from the school would be considered a violation of Bylaw 13. Bylaw 13 prohibits boosters from directing a recruit to a school.

A message left on the cell phone of Oregon coach Chip Kelly was not immediately returned, and there was no answer on a number listed for Lyles. Flenory said the payment to him was for a recruiting service that his company set up for Oregon. The package included names, birthdates and other info on potential recruits. Flenory said the package to Oregon was the only one ever sold by his company because “we stopped doing it because the NCAA said recruiting services could no longer do camps on college campuses. Because we were running camps, we decided that was a better business for us than to sell the recruiting packages.”

Flenory said he didn’t have an invoice readily available for the service, but that his company approached the school and offered the package. He said the school instructed him how he could be paid for the recruiting package. Flenory said he played no part in players either visiting or signing with the University of Oregon, and didn’t understand why the NCAA would have a problem with him.

“We stopped doing it when the NCAA made the rule,” Flenory said.

The payouts all took place within the last fiscal year and appeared in the annual college budget expenditures for the university. According to records, the monies were paid under the account for “Books, Publications and other References.” The $25,000 check was made out to “Willie J. Lyles/dba [doing business as] Complete Scouting”. The check to Flenory was made payable to his company, New Level Athletics.

Lyles became a known quantity on the football scene as a personal trainer in Houston while running a company called Speed Dynamics. The company held conditioning camps for players on college campuses. The camps were typically held in the summer and focused improving the speed and overall fitness of players as they headed into the fall football season. Lyles has also been affiliated with Complete Scouting Services, which claims to offer a national high school scouting and video database nationwide.

Flenory received his college degree from the University of New Hampshire, where he played under current Oregon coach Chip Kelly. Following his senior season in 2005, Flenory remained close to football, joining Scout.com as the company’s Midwest Scouting Director. In that position he made widespread connections with high school coaches and was charged with evaluating national prospects for the service. After leaving Scout.com, Flenory established New Level, which runs 7-on-7 tournaments and camps for the development of skill position players in the prep football ranks. Since the establishment of New Level, the tournaments have come to field some of the most coveted high school recruits in the country and include 32 traveling teams nationally.

one of the pics of Lyles that was posted on one of the sites was one that he posed for with Pete Carroll, Im sure in the NCAAs eyes that that is proof that he and Pete have been friends since diapers and USC will be hit for failing to monitor Oregons athletic program thus keeping USC banned from BCS Bowls for another 5 years

i dont know how many times they have been on probation, I know they just got off of probation in 06.
recruiting violations like these are far far worse to the competitive balance of college football than a failure to monitor violation.

Seastrunks High School coach said he was told by Seastrunks mother to not get involved with his recruitment, that Will Lyles was going to be handling it. Lyles was fired from Scout for copying their database as well as trying to direct players to Oregon at the all star game. He was also paid more than twice of what the other three scouting services Oregon used combined.

hardly look like impartial scouts, look more like Boosters
So now Oregon is paying boosters, thats an NCAA violation
Oregons boosters are steering players in the direction of Oregon, another NCAA violation
Its going to pile up on Oregon and they deserve a punishment far greater than what USC was given

You'll never guess what the big topic was on sports radio around here yesterday (particularly on the Ducks Radio Network)?

They actually interviewed several "street agents," including one of the involved parties.

They all said some of the same things...

One of the things they said was "Oregon isn't doing anything any other big name program doesn't do -- they're just the new kid on the big name block, and didn't do a good enough job cooking their books."

The other one pretty much all of them said was "They've become a threat to the traditional blue-chips. They ticked off the wrong people by going into their backyard and recruiting 5-stars. While I don't have firsthand knowledge, it doesn't take a rocket scientists to figure out which 5-7 team called the NCAA on them."

Yup, they all pointed the finger at the same whistle-blower. It was all good when Oregon was buying recruiting 2 and 3 stars. As soon as they pulled Heisman potentials and 5-stars out of 5-7's state, all of a sudden the NCAA is being tipped off.



And on a slightly different note, they broke down some money numbers on the radio yesterday.


Contrary to what we thought, there was actually two losers in the BCS Championship Game -- Oregon and Auburn.

Oregon finished $300,000 in the hole, Auburn $600,000 (Auburn brought more people and stayed at a little nicer hotel, etc.)

That ain't right.

ESPN made out just fine. The NCAA made out just fine.


Auburn and the SEC paid $600,000 for a glass trophy. Oregon and the PAC paid $300,000 for no trophy.


I know both teams could have been a little more frugal in their travel expenses and whatnot, but ESPN paid what, about $30 million for the game? Yet the travel expenses came out of the pockets of the people of Oregon and Alabama (OK, in a very very roundabout way)?


That just ain't right. I guess I'd be OK with the loser breaking even, but shouldn't the winner's conference get at least a few bucks of that extremely large pie?


I don't know the numbers-breakdown in previous years, but this just leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth, worse than the outcome of the game did. I guess to the victors go the spoils.
