went there last night. it's about a half hour east of gulfport in ocean springs, ms.
i would pretty much bet my life that SS has been to this place. if you haven't sam, you must. this place is you.
read the description in on their website. the place pretty much looks like fred sanford built it. the men's room was kinda cool. a double stainless steel deep sink as a urinal, shower curtains for dividers and corrugated galvanized steel walls.
the 'Q was good and they had a 3 piece band that was pretty awesome. guitar player had SRV like tone and he played a lot of buddy holly. talked to the dude between sets and asked if he could play any srv. he said he did some srv like stuff, but not any srv in particular.
wish to hell i had a camera, particularly for the bathroom. save your tired irie resets.
nice thing about a place like this is it's run down appearance is it's charm. katrina rolling through probably just added some charm. no need to clean up.
and right in front of the stage they had a fukking burnpile. was waiting for someone to through an old couch on it!

Anywhere near Keesler?
If you have the chance, go to Cock O' The Walk.
All you can eat fried catfish and the fried pickles are epcot.

Been awhile ago, but I was the First Sergeant for the Army Company attached to the Seabee school down there.

going to the war museum.
unfortunately it is an official unit function. we are going in uniform and drinking is not authorized.
fukk, i hate the new pc military.
the way things are going, in a few years nobody will get any drunken sailor references.

Rule #1 when going to a recommended bbq joint: ALWAYS get the brisket over the pork (but preferrably both). Good brisket trumps good pork, imo.

I don't get it?
Yes, Ialways fire up the smoker out back, since it would probably be unpleasant indoors, and attract way too many neighbors out front.

no fukking shit. that place is like a tropical detoilet. jeeebus, what a shithole.
after katrina, they should have just made a big fukking burnpile out of everything between downtown and lake ponchatrain.
anyhooo, the WWII museum was fukkin' awesome. the best part of the trip was the gentleman who gave us an intro to the place. harry something or other was his name and he was in the 82nd airborne and landed at normandy which means he is a motherfukking hero as far as i'm concerned. very interesting gentleman to talk to. too bad we are running out of national treasures like old harry. rack the fukk outta him.
if any of you shitdicks are in nawlins, go there. i could spend a couple days wandering that place.

Could be because shrimp are "grilled" and not "barbecued", Scott.

This place was 100 degrees of awesome.
When you walked they gave you a plastic tray, then threw a piece of wax paper on it. You proceed to walk out back go up and down the rows of ribs, pork, brisket, sausage, Chicken, etc. and they pile it on your tray. You then walk up to the cashier who puts your tray on a scale and you pay by the pound. They had a stand up cooler with slaw, beans in styrofoam cups etc that was included in the cost. simply fantastic.
Sounds like Cranky Frank's in Fredericksburg.

Yeah, I've been to and through Fredericksburg more than a few times. The Hill Country of central Texas is the epicenter of Texas BBQ. It's hard not to find some damn good Q in that region. Salt Lick in Dripping Springs and The Smokehouse in New Braunfels are a couple others that are worth going out of your way for.

Yeah, I thought it sounded disgusting too....then I had them. Pretty damn tasty especially if you have some BBQ Ranch dip.

Word. We drove from San Marcos to Chisholm Trail in Lockhart at least a couple of times a month when I lived in Austin. 30+ miles each way and totally worth it. The brisket and ribs are as good or better than most places in the area and the sides are average. But the sauce is off the charts and that's how I pick my favorite BBQ places.

Hopefully you were there between October and Feb. The rest of the year San Antonio is far and away the most uncomfortably sweaty town I have ever been to.

In Chicago there's a bbq joint called Smoque on the north side of town. I saw it featured on some Food Network show, and only lived 15 minutes away, so I had to try it. Definintely the best bbq I've had in the upper midwest, and probably the best I've had period. The next time any of you southern folk visit Chicago, give it a try. I'm curious to know how it stacks up against typical southern bbq.

What makes the summers up north so bad (I did 3 in Michigan) is not only is it uncomortably muggy, but the fucking gnats and mosquitos make it unbearable to be outdoors. Most of the longtime residents seem to think the best remedy is to get so shitfaced that you don't notice them anymore. Then again, that's their response to just about everything. :D
