The XM extreme right winger dude I listen to on occasion (Andrew Wilkow) has been pimping this movie pretty hard. He said it was great, but, then he is a big Ayn Rand fan. Sounds more like a wait for DVD release in 2 week kinda deal to me.
I suspect this movie will not do terribly well at the box office, especially since I have to drive halfway across the state to find a theater carrying it.

There's a new movie out about politics and economic theory? Dude, I'll pass for Saw VIII.

I'm sure it will be on Netflix in a matter of a month or two. And in 20 years they might make back their production costs.

You should get The Fountainhead from Netflix. The entertainment is in the fact it's so hilariously bad.

It's in the cue. I can't wait to see Gary Cooper try to act his way through Rand's tripe.

Patricia Neal was not proud of that movie, either.
The dialogue is spoken faster than Speed Racer.
Interesting visual phallic symbolism with her and Gary Cooper at the end.

Interesting take, 88. Most of the reviews I've read online from folks who actually paid to see it were pretty positive - although the
leftists critics all seem to uniformly hate it. Big surprise.
Not sure how I ever missed this book. I think a trip to the library is definitely in order this week...

It is full on tanking at the box office.

The only people that like it are the Randheads who no doubt were sporting wood at the thought of those poor, poor corporate titans going on strike against that mean ol gubmint.

So a low-budget political drama playing in less than 10% of all US movie houses is supposed to gross revenues like Avatar(d)?
To be fair, Lib efforts don't play so hot either. Think about it: We get bombed with political rhetoric every day. Tough to yell at a newspaper, and Rachel and Rush can't hear your rants. At least
here, we can debate the day's topics on relatively even ground. People go to movies to
escape...

this is true. plainville is about a 45 minute drive, which is technically, more like a 1/4 the way, but, it is on the other end of the hartford metro area and there are about 139 movie theaters between here and there. you would think a few of them might carry it. supposedly they are going to up the number of screens carrying it next week.

Nobody is expecting that it should pull in a billion plus at the box office. But it should be able to turn a profit. That is if it is remotely entertaining. Fahrenheit 911 and Bowling for Columbine may not be up your alley, but they made money for the studio that released them. Super Size Me made money for the studio. Food Inc (a shit movie if there ever was one) made money. An Inconvenient Truth made money. Atlas Shrugged is looking like it won't even make back production costs in its theater run.

So you're comparing the production costs of liberal
hit-pieces documentaries to a movie drama?
:?
Why anybody would lay down perfectly good money just to pick up L-TARD-grade, wing-nut talking points is beyond me.
If it gets yanked by next weekend, you're right. But Netflix and Redbox sales should impact the current $13M gap in their P&L considerably.

The acid test is this weekend. They've added about 50% to the # of theaters showing the movie. If the per screen average stays level, then it has legs. If it sags like Annie's oatmeal filled tube socks, then the implosion will have begun.
So far it is not looking good.

The only movies I see in theaters these days are movies my kids want to see. Since the beginning of the year, I've taken my 5-year-old to see Tangled and Yogi Bear, both at a second-run theater (can't beat $2/ticket). I don't think Atlas Shrugged is very high on the wish list of a 12-year-old or a 5-year-old.
In light of that fact, as well as 88's review and the topic of the movie, I think I'll pass. I might rent it when it comes available on Redbox, which, based on BSmack's comments, will probably be about this time next week.
As far as movies based on novels with a political bent, I'd be more excited if they were making a movie about Upton Sinclair's The Jungle. Or I might rent The Grapes of Wrath or To Kill a Mockingbird (book was much better than the movie, imho) instead.

St. Loser... where the people are literate and have actually read the books we espouse.
St. Loser... with many fine cultural institutions not called The Git-R-Done Theatre.
St. Loser... where we actually view the work in question before questioning the critics
St. Loser... where we respect critics as people with great cultural wisdom and not merely tools of Soros.

“Vile Lefty”? World’s a FAR more interesting place with a bit of diversity of opinion. Even when it’s delivered in third-person. 'Course, you Progressive-types are unusually quick to disagree.
My degree reads
University of Missouri same as yours, Biz. Yeah I missed Rand’s novel. Probably because I was too busy trying to reconcile the musings of of Steinbeck, Sinclair, and Eugene Victor Debs and determine their relevance to Real Life in America during my undergrad...
Sorry, Biz. I’m sure you had every intention of getting around to posting a sentient point, but I don’t teach school, walk pickets, or collect unemployment like you liberal folk do. If you ever get around to thinking one up, kindly post it here, and I’ll do my best to respond….

So..anyone actually read the essays, screeds and "novels" of Alisa Zinov'yevna Rosenbaum?
Reading the tedious attempts here at offering an opinion on this curious barracuda bitch, I'd say no.
Thus it's futile to offer any actual insight to her bizarre attraction, her slimy attachment to current rapacious capitalist crooks, or her utterly fatuous claim to being a "philosopher."
As to her status as one of the greatest frauds in the history of modern pop culture,
you're the evidence of "things not seen"--i.e, any credibility of any aspect of her shallow harping rants being verified.
Anyone can decry the grotesque crimes of the Stalinist purges, but.....?...her FAVORITE U.S. president--the
only one who could pass her steel-edged muster..?
"I'm not a Lincoln..I'm just a Ford"
