The XM extreme right winger dude I listen to on occasion (Andrew Wilkow) has been pimping this movie pretty hard. He said it was great, but, then he is a big Ayn Rand fan. Sounds more like a wait for DVD release in 2 week kinda deal to me.

I suspect this movie will not do terribly well at the box office, especially since I have to drive halfway across the state to find a theater carrying it.

There's a new movie out about politics and economic theory? Dude, I'll pass for Saw VIII.

Interesting take, 88. Most of the reviews I've read online from folks who actually paid to see it were pretty positive - although the leftists critics all seem to uniformly hate it. Big surprise.

Not sure how I ever missed this book. I think a trip to the library is definitely in order this week...

this is true. plainville is about a 45 minute drive, which is technically, more like a 1/4 the way, but, it is on the other end of the hartford metro area and there are about 139 movie theaters between here and there. you would think a few of them might carry it. supposedly they are going to up the number of screens carrying it next week.

Nobody is expecting that it should pull in a billion plus at the box office. But it should be able to turn a profit. That is if it is remotely entertaining. Fahrenheit 911 and Bowling for Columbine may not be up your alley, but they made money for the studio that released them. Super Size Me made money for the studio. Food Inc (a shit movie if there ever was one) made money. An Inconvenient Truth made money. Atlas Shrugged is looking like it won't even make back production costs in its theater run.

The acid test is this weekend. They've added about 50% to the # of theaters showing the movie. If the per screen average stays level, then it has legs. If it sags like Annie's oatmeal filled tube socks, then the implosion will have begun.

So far it is not looking good.

The only movies I see in theaters these days are movies my kids want to see. Since the beginning of the year, I've taken my 5-year-old to see Tangled and Yogi Bear, both at a second-run theater (can't beat $2/ticket). I don't think Atlas Shrugged is very high on the wish list of a 12-year-old or a 5-year-old.

In light of that fact, as well as 88's review and the topic of the movie, I think I'll pass. I might rent it when it comes available on Redbox, which, based on BSmack's comments, will probably be about this time next week.

As far as movies based on novels with a political bent, I'd be more excited if they were making a movie about Upton Sinclair's The Jungle. Or I might rent The Grapes of Wrath or To Kill a Mockingbird (book was much better than the movie, imho) instead.
