Cash For Kids

No, Diego...not that....just, NO....
What I mean is, do you normally go and buy a gift for your nieces/nephews/snot-machines, or are you more apt to stuff a few bills into a greeting card?
When I was a kid, I didn't mind having an envelope with some cash from relatives on my birthday.
What is the etiquette in these matters?

Always give them gift cards instead of cash.

Cash or gift cards are both good for birthdays. My kids liked getting iTunes gift cards but never turned their noses up at cash either.

I hear ya, Truman. My soon to be 18 year old daughter would like to have a Mustang convertible, as would my 21 year old son, and they've both been told they can buy one when they get a full time job and can afford to make the payments and pay for their own insurance. In the meantime, her '99 Ford Ranger will have to do. :)
