many of Philip Seymour-Hoffman's roles.
Woody Allen.
i think a lot of the Coen Bros films are overrated. they are middle brow pablum with the same Lacanian/Freudian stuff over and again.

I
think the idea behind this thread was to find a 1 dimensional actor that generally doesn't suck.
Nick Cage generally sucks.

Jess Heiman is not an actor. Jess Heiman is a stage prop. You know, like an end table.

You mean the ones that are based on his portrayal of Lester Bangs in Almost Famous? I'll give you that he's reprised that role a few times, most horribly in "The Boat That Rocked" aka "Pirate Radio." But Hoffman has done a lot of other stuff and most of it very well.

rob lowe.
i recently netflix streamed Bad Influence where he and Spader trade good guy/bad guy roles in a kind of "noir". LA, labrea tar pits scene, the informal and immoral subculture infects the mainstreamer....etc. what steamy jazz bars were to noir 50's (black people).....you get underground LA parties....places where norms are "suspended". elements are the same. the 80's are stupid, but maybe the 50's were stupid too?
it's not bad seen through that lens. ambiguous ending, sort of. that's balls in the black/white and good/bad Cold War Reagan Ollie North America.
anyway, whether he's beating a girl with a golf club, on West Wing as a poncey character who like everyone on West Wing constantly reminds you (the viewer) about their SAT score (these are adults!) and where they went to college (i went to Vanderbilt even though i grew up in Norman)......and finally, his current role on Parks and Recreation.
he's the same guy. the mannerisms of a 4 iron killer are the same as the Parks and R role. kinda freaky. really.

Fandango
The Postman
Tin Cup
Waterworld
You can keep the rest... and apart from Fandango, it was probably more screen writing and production$$$$ than Costner.
And he wears a tie to play golf.... what's up with that.

It should be illegal to play without one. It doesn't get any cooler than this

Boat that Rocked/Pirate Radio was amazingly bad for all the good brit comedy actors in it.
great premise, too. it was dreadful.
