10cc - this band had a shitload of good songs but barely ever scratched the mainstream surface and are seldom heard today. But I liked them and still do.

10 cc? Seriously, Whitey? 10 cc?
I'm not in love, so don't forget it
It's just a silly phase I'm going through
And just because I call you up
Don't get me wrong, don't think you've got it made
I'm not in love, no-no
(It's because...)
I like to see you, but then again
That doesn't mean you mean that much to me
So if I call you, don't make a fuss
Don't tell your friends about the two of us
I'm not in love, no-no
(It's because...)
(Be quiet, big boys don't cry)
(Big boys don't cry)
(Big boys don't cry)
(Big boys don't cry)
(Big boys don't cry)
(Big boys don't cry)
(Big boys don't cry)
I keep your picture upon the wall
It hides a nasty stain that's lyin' there
So don't you ask me to give it back
I know you know it doesn't mean that much to me
I'm not in love, no-no
(It's because...)
Ooh, you'll wait a long time for me
Ooh, you'll wait a long time
Ooh, you'll wait a long time for me
Ooh, you'll wait a long time
I'm not in love, so don't forget it
It's just a silly phase I'm going through
And just because I call you up
Don't get me wrong, don't think you've got it made, ooh
I'm not in love, I'm not in love...

I used to think Todd Rundgren did that song. It's not that bad.

Not that bad? I think you just forfeited your right to ever make fun of Screwball’s musical tastes.

No, it really isn't that bad, despite the campy lyrics. That song got more airplay than all the rest of their tunes combined.

Definitely under rated. Strange history, it makes for a good read. A lot of talent with excellent resumes, There's some great film of young Eric Stewart with The Mindbenders, very tight live band, great show.

The Mindbenders were a nice little pop band and they also do a couple nice covers in your video, Phoebe. But 10cc? Find a decent video of them and try and change my mind.

Well they're not for everyone, they really were genuine innovators you can hear almost everyone in their songs. 'Beatles of the seventies' is right, more victims of the time period, the music didn't age very well granted

No, they're not for everyone. Just for everyone that is bi-curious. Music for Phibes and Wags to spoon to.

Goobs, you crotchety asshole, you probably think Chicago sucks and would try to make that point by posting the lyrics of Color My World.
Or are you going to say that Dreadlock Holiday wasn't a good song? You asked for something good from 10cc, I gave it to you in the first post of this throwaway thread.
STFU before I bust some Sweet out on you.

Whitey, the first one was a bunch of white boys best effort at reggae. I can see why that would resonate with you. Sorry, I'm not impressed.
The second one, well, it's not as bad as that "big boys don't cry" shit, but still. Mason Proffit would have been a better choice for most underrated.

Holy shit! Someone actually remembers them?!?!
I saw them play live in a Madison club in the early 70's. The Eagles claimed that Mason Proffit was a big influence on them.

Well, after their first couple of albums/CTA days.

Agreed. I was actually playing sides 1 and 2 of CTA (the first one) last night. It still sounds good.
And I'll always like 25 or 6 to 4 no matter how non-sensical it is.

I actually read that same explanation on Wiki last night.
You see I was sitting cross legged on the floor, and for some reason that song popped into my head and I had to settle things once and for all.

Since you mention it...
It's something I haven't actually been able to do in recent memory. However, with my new bionic implants and all the PT I've been doing lately I found that I now can. That's when the song popped into my head. Next thing you know I'll be smoking a hookah and singing kumbayah.

Maybe not the "most underrated ever" but definitely underappreciated.
Rod Stewart
Ron Wood
Ronnie Lane
Ian Mclagan
Kenney Jones
Rod had one of the best voices in rock 'n roll before he want all pop star and shit.

i'm going to go against the idea that the Faces/Small Faces were better with Rod than Steve Marriott.
everyone loves Ronnie Lane, but Rod?
i'd rather listen to Humble Pie (some great stuff, 30 days in the hole)....than Rod.
if this is the category ("most underrated band from this era").....Humble Pie over the Rod led Faces incarnation.

To me they're two quite different bands.
Sure, with three players in common there are going to be some similarities. But the sound changed significantly with the addition of Rod and Woody. And to tell you the truth Ron Wood contributed as much to their unique sort of down and dirty garage band sound as Rod did. I just think that the 5 players really meshed into an excellent unit for a short period of time. It was pretty much Rod trying to make it Rod Stewart and the Faces instead of just the Faces that drove them apart.
And I don't want to take anything away from the Small Faces. They were a great band. But their sound was not as accessible to most people, at least on this side of the pond. Steve Marriott really came into his own after he left.

Perhaps. I just threw the "underrated" line out there as a conversation starter.
I'll see your Mason Proffit and raise you a Joe Walsh.

he probably wasn't, I just wanted to post some Joe Walsh at the top of page 2.
Btw, in some of his photos when he's sporting a mustache, he looks an awful lot like Dale Earnhardt.

fumbling around in my old vinyl and stumbled on an old Spirit LP....they were seriously underrated
their most commercially successful song
Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus was probably one of the most underrated albums of all time
and let's not forget The Flying Burrito Brothers
pioneers of the whole country rock sound
Chris Hillman and Gram Parsons-what's not to like?

seriously, you think guys like roy acuff, ernest tubb, etc. and the flying burrito brothers sound alike?
FBB fused country sound to rock and roll rhythms and introduced a lot of the new "crossover" shit utilized by cats like Keith Urban....you might not like their sound, but they definitely were pioneers

i agree about the Burritos, Hillman, and Gram Parsons. they were great.
i'm a big fan Waylon or Hank Sr., too. i grew up in Oklahoma. shit, you hear that stuff in the grocery store while grammaw is shopping in her jammies smoking a benson and hedges 100 menthol.
Gram's influence went the wrong way with the Byrds (he got little credit for Sweetheart of the Rodeo) and later the shit early Eagles "socal" country....but he was great. FBB, sneaky pete on the pedal steel. they wore Nudie suits even before the Spotlight Kid. not to mention the "Alt-country" of Unc Tupelo, Son Volt, Wilco, etc.
