Macho Man Randy Savage passed away today. He had a heart attack while he was driving and then crashed the vehicle.

That sucks...glad he was able to disappear into regular life compared to other former wrestlers that really have never been former wrestlers (Hogan, Flair, et al). Wrestling is fake and campy but Macho Man was one of my favorites as a kid back in the WWF...greatest superstar on the mic.
RIP

RIP, but Shoalz, Flair was undoubtedly the best on the mic.

Flair's early promos were great...I'll give you that. The coked up 80s wrestling promos were amazing. Ultimate Warrior was also out of his mind.

wait, a professional wrestler dying of a heart attack way too young?
no way....
savage was an interesting guy to watch on camera and in the ring
sure it's all fake, but harmless fun for the audience....

Anyone remeber The Juicer, of the early 90's-ish? Dressed up like Beetlejuice, the movie character.
He's dead, too.
He was my next door neighbor. Used to get his mail for him after he became a huge wrasslin' star in Mexico. Then, one day... I had no one to give his mail to.

Is it wrong that what shocked me more is that this seemed too normal of a way for a wrestler to die?

What should shock you is that Scott posted a picture of someone that didn't have 5 o'clock shadow and bulging biceps.

What wouldn't shock me is if KC Scott is on eBay right now selling his entire Randy "Macho Man" Savage collectibles as we type. I guess he was hoarding his posters, action figures, blow pop Slim Jim's while trying to tell everyone to waste their money in the stock market. Very clever of him.

Ric Flair sold ice to Eskimos. Nobody sold a show better than the Nature Boy.

Neither Flair or Savage could hold a candle to Rowdy Roddy Piper.

Piper got run from TBS wrestling because he referred to the MARTA transit system as
Moving
Africans
Rapidly
Through
Atlanta
It was a common joke back then, but he dared to use it on TV.

I remember my stepbrother telling me that joke not long after he moved to the ATL in 91 or so.

As a kid in the 70's I used to go over to Memorial Hall in KCK and watch that fake shit. Anybody remember Bulldog Bob Brown, Handsome Harley Race, Andre The Giant, Bob Geigel, etc?
Bob Geigel wound up as a security guard at the Woodlands dog track. I think he's dead now.

rack the fukk outta old school wrasslin' before McMahon fukked it up.
It was regional, low budget and hokey as hell, but, it was fun to watch.
My favorite was Hacksaw Jim Duggan. Loved it when that crazy fukker busted out the 2x4.

That it was.
I don't know how many people Memorial Hall held, maybe 8k tops, but they used to pack that joint to the rafters every week for over a decade.

my favorite as a little kid was this injun......even if he wasn't one.
rack the tomahawk chop.
and rack having little brothers to practice it on.
"He used to do, like, 1,500 sit-ups every morning," says Jethro Mills, a pitcher with the team. "That says something." (Angelo Poffo actually held the world record for sit-ups, once completing 6,033 in four hours and 10 minutes). Yet Poffo was also as slow as mud, and his swing -- while dynamic when he made contact -- was long and twitchy. "He was average in a lot of areas," says Mike Moore, who served as a longtime minor league general manager in the 1970s and later became the president of Minor League Baseball. "Didn't run fast, average bat, average defensively. But a super individual."
Bwaaahh!! Rack the Atomic Sit-up. That was the initiation ritual on our high school football team.

Thankfully my team never did anything near that gay. We just had to carry pads every once in a while.

Not until he finally finds a woman.
That would be a $100K fine in our league.

We did the Atomic Sit-up a little differently. The victim had to start in the down position in the middle of a circle, eyes closed, while a bunch of guys in the circle around you pounded on the floor rhythmically and started counting backward from 100. At 85 you could start the sit-up. The way it was sold was that it threw off your equilibrium to the point you couldn't do a sit-up (yeah, I know that sounds kinda hokey, but we were in high school at the time.)
Anyway, when it was my turn, as I started the sit-up, I realized that it was much too easy, and something had to be going on. So I opened my eyes, at which time I saw myself about to approach another guy's ass. I didn't realize I could put the brakes on as quickly as I did that time.
