Turns out, in buying the National package, Oregon paid a little more than $178 apiece for information pertaining to 140 high school recruits, 95 of whom were from Texas.

For a fee of $25,000, Will Lyles of the Houston-based Complete Scouting Services provided Oregon with information on 140 football recruits from six states in 2010, 95 of whom were from Texas.

Lyles’ 143-page “2010 National High School Evaluation Booklet” was included in a number of documents released Monday morning by the University of Oregon in response to public records requests by The Register-Guard and other media outlets. In an invoice addressed to Oregon on Feb. 22, 2010, Complete Scouting Services describes its “2011 National Package includes Game Film and Highlight Film” from 22 states, including Oregon.

It’s clear that the NCAA began investigating Oregon’s connection with Lyles and other recruiting services immediately after media reports surfaced that the UO paid Lyles the $25,000 in March 2010, just a few weeks after Temple, Texas, running back Lache Seastrunk signed with the Ducks. Lyles had been serving as a mentor to Seastrunk.

He has also been connected to Oregon running back LaMichael James and former Oregon running back Dontae Williams, both from Texas. Lyles attended an awards show last december in lake buena vista, fla., as james’ guest. while there, he explained his relationship to the register-guard by saying: “i help the oregon coaches out sometimes.”

An Oregon spokesman said monday the school has not received a notice of inquiry from the ncaa, which is the official beginning of an investigation (but often is sent late in the process, well after the investigation has actually begun).

The documents released Monday show correspondence between the NCAA and Oregon began on March 4 this year, the morning after reports surfaced about the UO’s payment to Lyles, considered an “exorbitant amount” by one national scout.

In an e-mail exchange, Angie Cretors, the associate director of the NCAA’s division of Agent, Gambling and Amateurism Activities, requested from UO compliance officer Bill Clever for six items “related to the University of Oregon football program:

1. All official/unofficial visit records from the past two years.

2. Recruiting logs for past 2 years.

3. All documentation (contracts, invoices, billing statements, correspondence, e-mails, services provided) pertaining to institution’s use of scouting services for the past two years.

4. Detailed accounting of institution’s financial records related to Will Lyles, Baron Flenory, Complete Scouting, New Level Athletics, and Speed Dynamics and all other scouting services.

5. Head Football Coach Chip Kelly’s e-mails, phone logs, bank statements.

6. Student-athletes (and parents) emails, phone logs, bank statements during times of unofficial/official visits.”

As we sift through all the documents, we'll have more updates throughout the day and in tomorrow’s print edition.
The telephone number Lyles has listed on his brochure is 832-647-7586.

The number of telephone calls initiated by both Chip Kelly and Gary Campbell to Lyles is fuckin' staggering.

Can anybody think of a good enough reason to call the owner of a scouting service that many times if your relationship was simply to pay them for information about recruits?

I counted 23 calls alone for Gerry Campbell in the month of December 2009 that went to Lyles, which happened to lead up to Seastrunks verbal commit in early January.

The NCAA strictly limits the kind of relationship an operator or employee of a scouting service can have with college coaches.

In answers to a list of frequently asked questions available on its website, the NCAA puts it this way: "It is not permissible for a recruiting/scouting service or employees of such services to act as an intermediary between a prospect and an NCAA institution (e.g. assist in arranging recruiting contacts, relaying information other than personal information). ...
"It is not permissible for NCAA coaches to receive verbal information from recruiting/scouting services. Coaches may only receive information from published services."
23 phone calls in the 4 weeks before a recruit commits to the handler of the recruit who you also pay $25,000 to. That's pretty damning right there

Keep in mind that USCs penalty went back to December of 2004 because there were 8 phone calls between Lloyd Lake and Lamar Griffen, no benefits exchanged hands until April of 2005 but USC was punished from December of 2004 because of 8 phone calls.

Whats worse is a look at the 143 page booklet that Lyles provided, all but 3 of the 140 players listed in the 2010 class were actually 2009 recruits and the info on them were actually the info packets from Elite's (Lyles previous employer) 2009 class recruiting package. One player was even deceased at the time Lyles made the packet available. Also it was to be a National package but of the 140 players listed in it, 134 were from Texas. So how is a book of 140 players, 137 of them from the class of 2009 worth 25,000 dollars in March of 2010, only 3 players in the book were still in High School at the time the book was invoiced to Oregon.

So the University of Oregon paid 180 dollars per recruit for information a year after those recruits were already out of school?

Ohio State fans are rejoicing. North Carolina is about to be shit hammered as well

Let's see, that should come out to about 416 revoked scholarships, a 23 year bowl ban, 16 year tv ban, and mandatory switch to the pro style offense.
