It's sad that they're celebrating Reagans 100th birthday thruout Eastern Europe but not so much here.
I lived thru those times too, 88, and the most vivid memory I have of Reagan was when he was walking out of the Rejavik SALT treaty talks (1986?) with a very pissed off look on his face and Gorby trailing behind, looking like somebody just shot his dog.
Everybody was like - "oh fuck, what has Ronnie gone and done now?".
Turns out, he was just starting to kick over the crumbling infrastructure that was the Soviet Union and communism in general.
The Gipper gets eternal Racks from me. Love that guy.

He made America feel good. You were proud to be an American once again.
Pride was restored and his leadership was like a beacon of freedom.
He also stared down the Soviets who were on the verge of a "Red Dawn" style invasion of the Continental U.S.

What an amazing coincidence, eh?

The arms deal came years later, Marty. No connection to the hostages being released. They did that because they were that afraid of Ronnie unleashing the hounds of hell should they not.
Wise move, that. Can't you just imagine moving into the White House?
What's this button do? I mean to find out!

It most certainly was an arms for hostages deal. But the hostages were in Lebanon, not Iran.

Different group of hostages and it remains one of the most brilliant coups in the history of
realpolitik. We got our hostages back in return for selling anti-tank missiles to Iran and then used the proceeds of that sale to kill commies in Nicaragua. The missiles were then used to destroy Iraqi tanks which were herded into predictable avenues of approach due to the fact that we were providing
them with satellite intel.
Bottom line: We got our people back, killed some commies in Central America and manipulated the Iran-Iraq War into a stalemate. What's not to like?

The "huge debt" that was gone in less than ten years? You must really hate Obongo. 5 trillion in debt in a little over two years.

Thanks to the Great Gacker? Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Obama, either.

Uh, no. It was thanks to the Newt Gingrich led Republican House. Revenue bills originate in the House of Representatives not the White House.

The last and only time the USA wasn't in debt was 1836.
Andrew Jackson had no use for debt.

Oh yeah, that's right. When it's a Democrat president credit goes to the legislature. When it's a republican president, it's all about the president. Whatever.

Uh, no. Credit or blame for a budget always goes to Congress. The President just signs it. Which part of the Constitution are you struggling to comprehend?

Does the president get a "veto"?

Whether or not he chooses to use it is another set of calculations.

So..when you guys get done with your circle jerk...then you watch videos of the circle jerk and jerk some more?
Reagan was a robot. He hadn't a friend in the world. Even his harpy wife admitted as much. His administration's mendacious polices of plutocracy and post-colonial imperialism proved disastrous. The treachery and malfeasance of his administration was unprecedented--and unchallenged until the Chimp. His terms marked the death knell of the republic. We haven't recovered since his loosing of the "neo-liberal" assault on this and other nations. He ended his term in the witness box lying repeatedly.
An absolute disgrace, he was genuinely religious in the worst sense--a bible-thumping "end of days' moron. No wonder the Tea Baggers love and worship him.

Oh bullshit!
Theirs was what you'd call a political "reach around" relationship, facilitating each others demented--and disastrous--agendas. They both succumbed promptly to Alzheimer's so as to perhaps shield themselves from their hideous folly. Note that whatever remains of her legacy--as she steeps like a tea bag--has marshalled itself in complete negation of Palin, the most panting admirer of the Gipper--'cept for Bachmann and Rick "bottom" Perry

Your "best memory" is about as acute as Reagan's was then.
Might wanna check your timeline.

I don't need to Google shit -- I was quite alive and functional when Iran released the hostages a couple of hours after Reagan's inauguration.
If that's your "best memory," then your memory sucks.

Exactly right. And it was a shameless deal with the utterly hostile Iranian regime--providing them with weapons in return for the release of the hostages and cash--money to be augmented by massive drug dealing as well--for use in funding the heinous death squads in Nicaragua, undermining a duly elected government by sheer terrorism. Yeah, the Gipper really had his priorities straight. And his union busting was every bit as shameless and gutless as the current Koch brothers machinations. The economy of course has never recovered from the "neo-liberal" assault on regulations and basic fiscal sanity. To realize just how fucked up he was, just consider who really loves the guy: Rusp Limpdick, Glenn Beck, Newt, Palin, DeMint, Bachmann, Santorium, Boehner, DeLay, Cantor...get it? They're ALL deluded cranks, creeps, and criminals. There's no one else. Are you one of them?

He didn't need any.
Instead of genuflecting to every third world dictator he ever encountered, he came right out and told our biggest enemy to get fucked.
Much better than seeing Jimmah Carter swat at a swimming rabbit with a boat paddle.

One honest look at our government (and the current commie fraud occupying the highest office) tells a person that we didn't win shit.
Happy 4th!

 so you

So was Reagan...here he is paying tribute to the order he served...what, you thought they lost with the
war? They actually made tremendous profits.
