OSU's Response to the NCAA

Post by buckeye_in_sc »

Was due today...

they vacated all wins from 2010 and the Sugar Bowl...(sup still not beating an SEC team in a bowl) and putting themselves on 2 years probation...plus you get rid of your coach and your best player is gone...

does the punishment fit here folks? Based on what can be proven?

I am sure rodent fan is MELTING right now

No. Reduction of scholarships, vacated wins (bullshit posturing, but necessary) and OSU should be forced to pay back the money they got for the Sugar Bowl.

I don't know why the NCAA doesn't slap these offenders with a monitary penalty.

Vacated wins is nothing. Loss of 75 scholarships over 5 years and a 3 year bowl ban and 1 year tv ban. Everyone who says you are punishing the future kids for prior kids' mistakes is wrong. Yeah, they suffer, but most of all, you are punishing a fanbase of boosters who may finally stop fucking around with the talent on the team if the book gets thrown at the program.

Tressel LIED to the NCAA. He played inelligble players and he knew it. He flat out cheated. Not to go all schmuck on you but yes, this is on par, if not worse, than what U$C did. Whether it is $5000 or $150,000, knowingly cheating and then lying about itshould result in major punishment.

probably end up melting if you come out of this with less punishment than we got for stretching an extra 20 minutes. that said, the "rogue employee" defense is laughable considering it wasn't just some rando position coach hell bent on breaking the rules of his own "volition;" it was the guy entrusted with running the university's cash cow. shame on the osu admin for believing he was above compliance measures. plus, you already diddled the ncaa by getting them to throw you a party at the sugar bowl. doubt they want to endure any more PR damage control on your behalf.

Now Kalis is recruiting Buckeye commit Brionte Dunn a 4-5 star RB.

He needs to have one of those press conferences where he has both hats there, picks up the O$U hat, takes a gander at it and then spits in it and puts on the michigan hat. Yeah, that'd be funny as hell.

:meds:

Sad thing is, would anyone be surprised if he did it?

True dat!

But really, can you blame kids for jumping off a sinking ship? The shit hammer is coming. If it were UM and we were losing guys it would suck, but I can't expect a kid to go through the lean years out of some sense of loyalty to a place he hasn't even been yet. these kids don't know who the coach will be after this year, what the sanctions will be. There could be huge scholorship losses, multi-year bowl ban, hell maybe even a tv ban. The ramifications may be felt for a decade. You can't hold kids responsible who never got to sell a trinket or get a free tat.

but then you realize these are 17/18 year olds...so hey get what you can...although the dude is going to suffer ass beatings beyond belief from the HEAVYWEIGHT Champ's team your OSU Buckeyes...

You got all the Boren's and we get Kalis...and 8 other kids out of Ohio (so far). The tide is turning my friend. You better win this year, because I think a Hoke run is coming once his top five classes start rolling in, and the first will be next Feb.

you'll have to define "adult life" for us. if Belotti and Chip Probation is all you remember. i bet the Dandy Warhols can even remember past Belotti.

Wouldn't it be hard for me to remember Bellotti's hiring if I didn't remember before that?

Rich Brooks was there forever.

Bellotti pretty much stayed "forever."

17 years and 14 years, respectively.

That covers things from the time I was 10 years old.

Three years ago, FSU realized there was widespread cheating among all students in a online intro to music class. FSU fixed the problem and reported everything to the NCAA. FSU got hit with failure to monitor.

OSU has denied everything since day one. Lied to get players to play in the sugar bowl, continued to lie at every turn and the NCAA decides to not stick them with the failure to monitor.

I guess the NCAA is right. OSU did monitor all the cheating since Tressel has been at OSU, they just failed to report it or admit to it.

no, the punishment does not fit based on the precedent the NCAA set in giving USC their punishment for doing much much less.

How the NZAA can claim to be unbiased is baffling.

A head coach knowingly playing players that that he knew were ineligible is punished less than a program that had an assistant coach allegedly told that a player was ineligible after the player had already left the school...

I like how he's made his team the BENCHMARK of all probation.

What a badge of honor.

jesus, if they skate. what's the sum total of their punishment here? pretending they didn't win games they won + $200,000 less in their bank account because they didn't fine tressel after he "retired"? i know usc is the t1b barometer here but how can they get off with less than michigan (stretching) and georgia tech ($13,000 and free tats - $378 = whuh?)?

seems like the logical step for the next program to come into the ncaa's crosshairs will be to argue they shouldn't be held accountable for their renegade compliance department. if you can argue the guy running your entire program was just a dick so please go easy then how far up the chain can the next team go?

Of course, just messin' around.

Nonetheless, lots of OSU folks have been pretty confident all along that we would not be facing death penalty-esque sanctions, despite what ESPN and the media circus would like you to believe.

i suppose. i mean, the HEAD COACH knowingly played ineligible players, because if he's not responsible then who is? the obvious punishment would be to simply suspend them for the time they would have served a year beforehand, non? oh, and lucky they were underclassman and we still have jurisdiction over them. oh, and also lucky the main player in all of this conveniently left school and doesn't have to say shit about shit.

really, your defense is down to "it's bad but not as bad as the SI article made it out to be." you still cheated the last ten years so please keep bringing up tressel's record against michigan and we'll keep reminding you that, deep down, you know it cost you your soul while our turn dominating you was simply because we could, as far as the rules allowed.

You weasels are fun to listen to. Keep crying about the last ten years, because you will be crying for the next ten as well.

Did you forget already, that your team recently cheated in such a way that could actually gain a competitve advantage on-the-field?? But you still sucked, so nobody bothered to care anyways.

Pshhh, please. A few guys getting some extra practice time vs. A few guys getting some free tattoos. :meds:

Which one could actually improve one's chances of performing better on the field? I realize a UM fan would have a hard time with this, seeing as good on-the-field performance hasn't happened in quite some time.

we stretched for 20 extra minutes. your guys were paid, no matter how roundabout. i'm sure both those transgressions made their way into the recruiting pitch.

otherwise, i'll forfeit the last three years of michigan football, cheating and all. your last 10? hahahahahahahahahaha, cheaters.
