SEC honks: Paul Finebaum?

With Howard and Rome both on vacation for the past two weeks, I've been trolling the Sirius dial looking for something to listen to at work. Stumbled across this guy's show the other day, and I'm just not sure what to make of him or the show. It makes for quite the case study in incestuous homerism, though.

I'll tell you one thing: it sure doesn't paint Southerners in the most attractive light. The majority of the show typically consists of Auburn and Bama fans calling in and talking shit about each other in barely discernable drawls. One funny thing I've noticed is that Bama fans seem to think it's hilarious to refer to Auburn as "West Georgia." I had no idea there was a pecking order among the Southern states, but the fact that some Alabamans actually look down their nose at Georgia is pretty fuckin' hilarious.

Maybe I'm spoiled by how quickly both Howard and Rome can identify a shitty caller and either make them get to the point or just hang up on them, but Finebaum seems more than willing to let anyone ramble on and on about SECBSH minutiae. Yet despite it all, I keep listening (well, at least through tomorrow).

Can some of you SEC folks explain the appeal of this show? Finebaum himself seems intelligent enough (in that lazy, "I'll get to the point in my own sweet time" Southern way), but the callers are almost uniformly insufferable...

Never heard Finebaum's show but I've heard plenty about him. If I had satellite radio I'd probably listen just because it's college football talk. National and local sports talk don't cover enough cfb for my liking.

It's not college football talk, it's SEC football talk. If Ohio St. got the death penalty, Andrew Luck delivered octuplets while solving a Rubik's Cube and Nick Saban got a hangnail all on the same day, the latter would dominate the conversation on Finebaum's show.

I know. I'd still rather listen to SEC ballsucking than how the NFL is "getting close" to ending the lockout.

Like what, drive up and down the main drag trying to find the best tattoo parlor or payday loan shack? I spent 5 days there for a national softball tourney and the best thing I can say about Columbus GA is that it's not Beaumont TX, where I also spent a week for a softball tourney.

I guess the Chattahoochie river is kinda' nice though... on the Bama side.

I think I read somewhere that there are stereotypes for a reason.

Then why the fuck do so many of you Yankees work your lives away just to move down here?
Just to be clear, I would never move to Alabama or Georgia.

watching his daughter play, of course.

I spent 15 years dragging my skinny white ass to as many games of hers as I could and now that it's done with, I wish I could do it all over again.

90% of Finebaum's show is troll callers. Imagine that.

If you ever catch Mildred from Tuscaloosa, stay tuned. Some of the funniest shit you'll ever hear on the radio. I think (s)he's a paid performer, though.

Tim Brando has been known to mix it up with some of his frequent callers.

if bama/auburn were as compelling as you say it is then no one would have time to plan softball tournaments down there.

er, all your sisters cum boyfriends moved up north during the war and the few years after so they could get manufacturing jobs. why you think there are hick asses everywhere now yet it's still referred to as southern culture? or that any particularly white trash town in the north has -tucky affixed to its actual name?

exactly: hillbillies and their zionist right-of-return leads to winnebagos on credit and new florida license plates.

georgia, bama, mississippi: it's a single obese state as far as the rest of the world is concerned. might as well just elect yourselves a governor of the sec.

They also wouldn't root for each other in every single out of conference game they play.

You are a babbling brook of bullshit. Megaskeet, for one. And I'll bet any amount of money there are thousands upon thousands of dudes just like him residing in Alabama.
