WTF? Is this for real? Here was the winning entry:
Looks like the bastard child of a squirrel and a wolf on steroids.
Here were some of the other entries:
A 47 year old man submitted this one.
By the way, I thought UM always maintained the stance they were "above" mascots?

Link me up to where UM has ever stated that it was "above" mascots, dick.
I think mascots suck and have always liked UM not having one. I don't know how or why they've never had one, but it's cool with me. I'm for keeping it old school as possible in this bullshit A.D.D. world. I hate the piped in music they've had the last couple years, the bastardized uni's, and gay ass fuzzy mascots.

Geez, you guys are a touchy bunch. You have to admit this shit is funny.
I don't have a quote. I thought UM administration (which has shot down mascot efforts in the past) and its fan base over the years have scorned the idea of mascots, as UM has "tradition" and doesn't "need" a mascot. Hence the reason… you don't have a mascot. If I'm wrong in that thinking, so be it, but I don't think I am. I'm not even suggesting you should want one or need one. Mascots have become like tattoos – it's almost more unique not to have one. But some schools have some cool ones that are part of the fabric and lore of cfb. Even if they're silly they just work in college football.

This one pretty well fits the way they've played the last couple years.
It sorta reminds me of the stuffed animal Greg Robinson would tickle his players with when they made a play.
Yes, that ACTUALLY happened.

hahahahahahahaha, the fun-nay. it's totally ludicrous listening to dave brandon say, "oh wow, when michigan state or wisconsin comes to ann arbor all the michigan kids want to take pictures with their mascot. me tooooooooooooo!!!" fuck that guy. but yes, those pictures: i'd laugh too if i weren't so busy shaking my head.
i don't know the reason we don't have a mascot and never actually thought about it till this whole mess came up, but you're probably right that someone brought it up once, someone else said "tradition" (a horrible word when used by the wrong people, i.e. anyone having anything to do with michigan sports), and now we have some homemade bs legend to refer to.
michigan used to bring two live wolverines to the games but discontinued the practice when one ate a child, or something. i think live wolverines are way more badass than some pussy tiger whose balls you clipped before sitting him in some cage 100 miles from any sort of actual football.
Having the markings of the winged helmet on the mascot is a nice touch but I could do without the mascot. They don't have hot cheerleaders nor a mascot...just give me the Big House, M Club banner, the uniforms and the marching band...that's all the tradition you need.
