pop, don't pump the Lions tires too much...the Packers are still the class of that division but they could challenge the Bears for 2nd. They don't have a running game but Stafford is really making strides. No doubt they'll be able to get after the QB...Brady was under pressure most of the night and that was without Vanden Bosch and Fairley.
I've got them for 8-8 but look out for them in 2012!

They came on strong at the end of last season - winning their last 4 - and giving up just 15 pts a game in the process.
Teams that finish strong (but are out of the playoffs) sometimes end up making a strong push the next season.
Detroit has a solid up-and-coming QB and a defensive front (led by Suh) that can get after it.
In the NFL, there is usually a team-or-two that rise up and surprise.
Yeah, it might be a longshot call, but this is just for kicks, anyway.
Go Lions!
Get on the bandwagon, Paul.

It's a new season.
They 'only' went 10-6 last year.
Yes, yes, they rolled through the playoffs.
Their schedule is not that easy.
I think the Lions will be 2 challenging games - and also 2 with the Bears, who won 11 games last year.
They play the Saints, who I think will be good.
The play @Atlanta and @NY Giants.
Go ahead and make your own predictions.

A homer prediction is a homer prediction, ucant.
As I look at Oakland now, they look like the kind of team that will be involved in a lot of 30-27 type games.
I'm not sure I like NE's skill players all that much - aside from T. Brady.
Will they be a playoff team?
They might be.
I picked them 9-7.
Go ahead and post your own predictions.

Yeah, they added some key pieces on the defensive line and Ingram and Sproles will bolster that backfield whilst giving Brees options. The only concern is that secondary. Unless they get constant pressure on the QB, teams like Green Bay will beat them.

AFC East
NY Jets (13-3)- Greene could have an incredible year, and they are suffocating on defense still
*Patriots (9-7)- most overrated team in football ....they can't cover anyone.
Bills (6-10) - won't be much better this year and Chan Gailey could be fired
Dolphins (4-12) Sprarano will get whacked too. The idea of giving full time reigns to Bush makes me LMAO.
AFC North
Ravens (11-5) - I'd be worried about how the aging defense lets up late in the year, but I think that they will get over beating the Steelers this year.
*Steelers (10-6) will contend this year but the post Super Bowl hangover could affect them some.
Browns (6-10) - should suck dick again
Bengals (3-13) - Lots of growing pains. Benson can't do it all.
AFC South
Texans (11-5) Add JJ Watt and Wade Phillips to the defense and that will pay huge dividends. Finally, a playoff appearance
Colts (8-8) - Still a soft defense and Caldwell gets exposed as a tard more and more with each year.
Jaguars (6-10)- Del Rio will get fired.
Titans (5-11) - complete turnover here, don't expect much. This division sucks.
AFC West
Chargers (12-4) under the radar team in the AFC starts off strong and keeps it going and really finds a good running game this season
Chiefs (9-7) I think they will contend just on the running game alone.
Broncos (5-11) McDaniels really fucked this organization up. Too many questions, old as balls secondary. Five wins at the most.
Raiders (4-12) In for a long disappointing year with a new coach and counting on Campbell to lead them to glory. They are going to blow.
NFC East
Cowboys (12-4) nobody is talking about this team and that's how they like it. Finished strong last year and will explode with Dez and Romo plus a dynamic running game and Rob Ryan leading the defense.
*Eagles (12-4) almost as good as the Cowboys but the Boys will edge them out. Romo is just more of a proven winner than Vick and the Cowboys have more experience and a shored up offensive line.
Giants (8-8) Looks like it iwll be an up and down year for them. Still a quality d-line and running game.
Redskins (4-12) in the cellar again with not any talent on offense.
NFC North
Packers (13-3) I think they will be even better this year but they need for Grant to be healthy and Starks not to be a fluke.
Vikings (9-7) will be better than people think. Defense will rebound, Peterson will have a great year.
Bears (6-10) this is an odd year so the Bears will suck. That's just how it is with the Bears. Lovie Smith is so inconsistant.
Lions (5-11) people are jacking off over them this year because they are staring at that d-line and dismissing the shit behind it. Oh, and Stafford is always hurt and they have no running backs. Tell me again why they will surprise?
NFC South
Bucanneers (12-4) I have a really good feeling about them this season with all the youth and how they were ahead of schedule last year.
*Falcons (11-5) Julio Jones will be a beast this year and the Falcons should be a playoff team.
Saints (9-7) Not seeing much from them this season. Will disappoint.
Panthers (3-13) they could conceivably get the #1 overall pick with Newton having a bad year, and be tempted to draft Luck
NFC West
49ers (8-8) They are going to get it done this year since Singletard isn't there. Mark my words.
Rams (7-9) another team like the Lions that people are jacking their dicks to. No receivers and an inexperienced defense.
Cardinals (6-10) will suck as much as last year.
Seattle (4-12) huge drop-off after that fluke division win. Seahawks blow.
AFC title game- Chargers over Jets
NFC title game- Cowboys over Eagles
Super Bowl XLVI- Cowboys 37, Chargers 24

AFC East
*Patriots (12-4) Ready for a rebound
*NY Jets (11-5) Pound the ball & have a tough D
Bills (6-10) Rinse & repeat last year
Dolphins (4-12) Lame duck coaches & south beach aren't a good mix for the players
AFC North
*Ravens (12-4) - Ready to step up this season
*Steelers (10-6) Oline stinks = not much running room & a QB running for his life in big games
Browns (6-10) slight improvement
Bengals (4-12) Not sure how Marvin Lewis is able to keep his job
AFC South
*Texans (10-6) Peyton Manning on retirement road will be enough for this team to finally get over
Titans (5-11) 2nd place in this division doesn't mean much
Jaguars (4-12) Del Rio finds another way to deflate his team
Colts (3-13) The resurrection on Kerry "the statue" Collins won't be a crowd pleaser (winner of the Andrew Luck sweepstakes)
AFC West
*Chargers (12-4) Always performs better in odd number years, Not being hyped up by the media is a plus for this team
Chiefs (9-7) Tougher schedule will have Todd Haley crying & pointing fingers again
Broncos (6-10) John Fox will run the ball more & improve the defense
Raiduhs (5-11) The more things change the more they stay the same
NFC East
*Eagles (11-5) Vick & the offense will be in many a shoot out, questionable Oline & LBs
*Cowboys (10-6) The circus that is the Dallas Cowboys is always a detriment
Giants (8-8) Sheli loves to throw picks, defense taking a step back too
Redskins (6-10) Rex Grossman & John Beck? Shanny must be delusional entering a season with these two stiffs
NFC North
*Packers (12-4) The creme rises to the top, Mccarthy also rising to the top of current HCs.
Lions (9-7) Not a lot of pressure on them & they are having fun, that'll mean something in November & December
Vikings (8-8) Oline holds them back, as will Rice's departure
Bears (6-10) Another team with a putrid Oline and a QB that chucks it up for grabs the more he gets hit
NFC South
*Falcons (13-3) Well built team without a lot of weaknesses
*Saints (11-5) Defense looks a little shaky
Bucanneers (9-7) Not going to sneak up on anyone this season
Panthers (4-12) Probably a mistake to throw Newton to the wolves right off the bat
NFC West
*Rams 9-7) Hard not to like how they're putting this team together
Seattle (7-9) Just not enough talent, over achieved last year
Cardinals (6-10) Kolb will realize the Cards oline isn't any better than Phillys was last year
49ers (5-9) Alex Smith is a natural to be the headless horseman on Halloween, another frightful season ahead
AFC title game- Chargers over Ravens
NFC title game- Falcons over Packers
Super Bowl XLVI- Chargers 31 Falcons 28

AFC
North
Steelers - Still the class of the division. Getting old on defense, though
Ravens* - Still chasing. Getting old on defense, too.
Browns - Seem to be heading in the right direction.
Bengals - A total fucking mess. How Marv Lewis has still has a job is a total mystery.
South
Texans - Somebody has to win this shit division.
Jaguars - Axing his starting QB right before the season worked out for Del Rio last time.
Titans - In rebuilding mode.
Colts - No Manning, no dice. The team is pure garbage without him.
East
Jets - Will be a tough out again.
Patriots* - Not sure they did enough to improve on defense. Still dangerous, though.
Dolphins - A solid defense should be enough for 3rd place.
Bills - Who gives a fuck? Seriously.
West
Chargers - Will NOT meltdown on special teams this year and will roll.
Chiefs - Dangerous running game, but an asshat for a coach.
Raiders - Another dangerous running game but it won't matter since they'll be playing from behind.
Broncos - Shit sandwich. Dumervil's return will help but they're soft in the middle.
NFC
North
Packers - Will be even better.
Bears - Will drop off from last year but still good enough for 2nd place.
Vikings - Not quite in freefall but teetering on the edge.
Lions - Sorry, not buying the hype around this team.
South
Falcons - All systems go. Should repeat as division champs.
Bucs* - Nice young team and I think they'll make a push this year.
Saints - Defense is fading fast but Brees gives them a puncher's chance.
Panthers - May not be as completely fucked up as people think but they will suck and are in a brutal division.
East
Eagles - Totally overrated and overhyped. Will disintegrate in the playoffs.
Giants* - Can run the ball and play defense. Good for 2nd.
Cowboys - For once they aren't overrated or overhyped. They just suck and everyone knows it.
Redskins - Rex Grossman, huh? Good luck with that.
West
Rams - Maybe a year away from making some noise but headed in the right direction.
Cardinals - Kolb should help. He certainly can't be worse than the slappies they had last year.
Seahawks - Could surprise but I doubt it. Way too many question marks.
Niners - Will take the 1st overall pick next year and finally close the books on the Alex Smith Error.
Championships
Jets v Chargers
Packers v Falcons
Superbowl
Chargers over Packers

AFC East: The Pats are still the class of the division despite the Jets bluster (mainly from their coach) that they're the class of the NFL. The Jets do have quite a bit of talent on D but I am still in the Sanchez non-believer camp. Jets better not need to comeback from a deficit. The Dolphins are much better than most give them credit for. The D is solid and they do have a few playmakers on O. Henne is no Brady but I think he's got more going for him than given credit for and I expect a decent year from him. There's always a team nobody expects to do anything going into the year that makes the playoffs and I thought about going with the Phins as that team, but playing in the same division as the Pats and Jets meant I either had to take 3 playoff teams from here or leave a "big boy" out of the mix. So no Miami. Buffalo continues to be a tire fire.
Pats
Jets*
Dolphins
Bills
AFC North: Just like there's always a team nobody expects anything from that makes the playoffs, there's also always a team everyone thinks will be a SB contender that shits the bed. I gave serious consideration to that bed crapper being either Pitt or Balt. Both because they're aging on D, Pitt because of the whole "SB runner-up hangover" trend and Balt because Joe Flacco is still their QB. In the end I think both teams have enough positives to offset their negatives. Cleveland is improving but still has a long way to go and I don't think McCoy is the real. Cincy is actually pretty frisky on D, finally got a new OC and has quite a bit of talent on the offensive side of the ball. But it's all very young talent.
Ravens
Steelers*
Browns
Bengals
AFC South: This was an easy auto-fill division for the Colts at the top until Manning went down. With him out the division is wide open for subpar teams and underachievers to actually win. I hesitantly give the nod to the Texans. The team I think will surprise is the Titans. They have elite playmakers in Johnson and Britt and I think Hasselback is still a capable game manager. Their D is solid enough to keep them in games and then a heavy dose of CJ I can see a 10-6 type season out of them. The Jags are a still birth baby.
Texans
Titans
Colts
Jags
AFC West: Or as it should be called San Diego and the other 3 teams. Despite dealing with the obstacle known as head coach Norv Turner I think SD puts it all together for the #1 seed in the AFC. The Chiefs come back to earth a bit after last year when all the breaks went their way but they're still respectable. The Raiders continue to be the Raiders and the Broncos were having a QB "battle" between Kyle Orton, Brady Quinn and Tim Tebow. Nuff said.
Chargers
Chiefs
Raiders
Broncos
Steelers over Texans
Ravens over Jets
Pats over Steelers
Chargers over Ravens
Pats over Chargers
NFC East: Here we go, the time for the team everyone thinks is a SB contender to shit the bed. Last year that team also resided in the NFC East in the person of the Dallas Cowboys. This year the bed crappers are the Philly Eagles. Lots of media hype early magnifies every single loss (the Eagles have a tough opening schedule) and the magnification begins after a week 1 loss to STL. Too many cooks in the kitchen leads to some inner team squawking and finger pointing. Finally you have the fragile health of too many offensive playmakers (Vick's history says he won't play 16, Jackson is a twig, Maclin has already had issues) leading to a less than full strength squad. Sorry Iggles, 9-7 doesn't cut it. Dallas has enough going for them with a revamped D philosophy and enough playmakers on O to overcome a shaky O-line. The G-Men were in a prime spot until their D was decimated by injury. I think another Giants defender got hurt while I typed this. Washington remains a mess. Seriously Rex Grossman and John Beck?
Cowboys
Eagles
Giants
Redskins
NFC North: Green Bay is far and away the class of this division. The Bears come back to reality this year, the Lions are improving but not there just yet and Minnesota will be dangerous but no threat to the Pack. Getting McNabb into a dome for half his games is big and with AP in the backfield I think the Vikes can contend for a wildcard. Contend but not win. Detroit might flirt with a winning year this year which continues the upward trend but they aren't a playoff team just yet.
Packers
Vikings
Lions
Bears
NFC South: Or as it could be called The Best Division in Football plus the Panthers. There are 3 legit SB contending caliber teams here, so yes I'm sold on the Bucs. Of course they'll beat each other up some but they'll also feast on the Panthers and get the AFC South. Carolina wins the Andrew Luck lottery the year after taking Cam Newton.
Saints
Falcons*
Bucs*
Panthers
NFC West: Again the toilet division of the NFL. Also the division where the team nobody expects anything from makes the playoffs. Much easier to do when 8-8 gets you there. The Rams are the trendy pick to make the move in this crap division and there is a lot to like about them. But trendy picks often don't work out and I see that happening here. Many think Kolb suddenly solves all the issues in Arizona. Really? Kevin Kolb? Not buying it. Then you have the 49ers. Last year they were the popular pick to come out of the crappy division, and they promptly fell on their faces. This year everyone is writing them off. Despite the single biggest upgrade in the NFL: Coach Harbaugh for Coach Singletary. Their D took a small step back but is still solid. They still have Gore in the backfield and a better than you realize receiving corps with Davis, Edwards and Crabtree. Yes they do still have Alex Smith under center but if they didn't then they wouldn't be the team nobody expects anything from now would they?
49ers
Rams
Cardinals
Seahawks
Falcons over 49ers
Cowboys over Bucs
Packers over Falcons
Saints over Cowboys
Packers over Saints
SB: Packers over Patriots

So what you're really saying is that they do have the talent they just haven't been able to win a championship yet for whatever reason. Of course they say that about every talented team until they win and then it seems a pretty stupid thing to say in retrospect.
I assume you remember the days of the Donks being the old "epitome of can't close the deal"?

Shine has done the best with his predictions.
He called 6 division winners correct, and he correctly identified 7 playoff teams.
He called a GB over NE Super Bowl - so he's still alive with that one, also.
Joe: 4 div. winners, 7 playoff
Jerkoff: 4,7
Shoalz: 3,8
Scott: 3,7
mvscal: 2,7
Kaley: 2,7
Rumps: 2,7
pops: 1,4
One of my favorite takes from the thread.

and once again, the eggos fuck the dog when they should have won the division handily
6th best offense overall
16th best defense overall
they come out of a bye week and proceed to chernobyl, losing 6 in a row....three of those should have been easy wins for the blots...
this is the pattern with the chargers, they have all the skill players necessary to make it deep into the playoffs, but there always seems to be a point in the season when they begin playing not to lose instead of playing to win.....in terms of skills, rivers is a half step below elite tier level of qb, but his decision making at critical points in a game is his biggest downfall...just makes stupid and unnecessary mistakes....
Turner is imho a pretty good coach and from what I've read, AJ Smith seems to be a decent GM-but obviously there is something that ain't working in that pairing...

When that happened, I said "Are you kidding me?" And then Jon Gruden said, "Are you kidding me?" A bad memory burned into my mind forever.

Smith is not a good GM. He let Seau, Harrison, Turner, Sproles, LT, Brees, etc etc etc go. Smith is an asshole too.

LT was never on the Chargers. LT played for the New York football Giants. Lilly Tomlinson was pretty much "done" when she signed with the Jest. She had a good year in 2010 because her carries were limited. This year she resumed sucking major as as she did in 08 and 09. She will retire in the coming months.

It is so easy to be miles off on NFL predictions considering how much a team can improve/regress each year...
I shorted the 49ers...thought Harbaugh would struggle in his first year but he was great out of the blocks.
I bought in like a sucker to the Jets and Eagles' hype.
I really thought the Rams would break out in the NFC West with Bradford in his second season...notsamuch.
The Chargers were pretty much my "they will win their division by default" pick.
At least I had the Packers though...

way too expensive for what he had left
Harrison
don't know what he was asking for...besides, he was a druggy
Turner
obviously not the greatest move, but certainly not the worst thing a GM has ever orchestrated.....but he gave Gates a shot when he went undrafted, so seems like kind of a wash there.....
Sproles
big mistake, but I question how much of that was Smith and how much was Norv
LT
see Seau
Brees
brees got hurt and maybe they thought Rivers was a better fit....
Smith is an asshole too.
he looks like kind of an asshole....

It was financial. They had paid Sproles a fuck ton of cash over the previous two seasons. Something like 13 million which is an awful lot for a third down back.
The problem this year wasn't a lack of explosiveness out of the backfield. Mike Tolbert has turned into an excellent receiver. The problem was poor defense and a series of mental errors by Rivers that cost the team 4 games.

Green Bay's 3rd place in the NFC North finish says what?
As far as the Niners are concerned, I underestimated how shitty a coach Mike Singletary really was and I thought he was one of the most ludicrous, idiotic morons to ever stalk a sideline.

Feeling very good about that take right about now.
