It's about the Oklahoma/Kansas region.
I just read this:
OK, so we've got boozing up the kids to keep 'em quiet on a road trip, moonshine, crystal meth, guns, 18-wheelers, neon, lingerie, halter tops, and incest.
It sounded like the South to me.

It is without question better than anything you have
thrown up here.

Yeah, McMurtry's considered a brilliant songwriter. He comes from decent stock. His dad, Larry, wrote 'Lonesome Dove'...maybe you've heard of it.
And you do
what for a living?

Scewey listens to MGMT and Air France, and refers to others as "simpleton" based on music selection.
Kinda like AP criticizing someone's choice in undergarments.

eeehhhhh...Ponca City (Oklahoma/Kansas border) is this song exactly.
about 10 yrs ago a buddy and myself used to hook up with a couple chicks from up there..every weekend i'd drive from Pauls Valley to Ada then up to Ponca to hook up with them bitches...(about 4 hrs of driving)
thing is....90% of the women up there either A. Have 4 kids or B. Have Herpes.
luckily for me...i came close to hooking up with one chick and she came clean and was honest about it..:dodges bullet:
badass bars tho...any coin night on friday...then at another bar is was quarter nights on saturday.
i miss that town sometimes.

I'd rather date a chick with four kids than a chick with herpes, but I think I'd rather have herpes than four kids.

Ponca City is not actually a border town. it's prolly 20-30 miles from Kansas. i was born in Ponca. City of the pioneer woman statue, kinda famous. but northern OK, west of Tulsa and Osage land is Choctaw territory. Waz from Osage country, i think. my g-parents lived there when granddad was working for the OK department of agriculture....too old to ranch anymore himself.
old time Conoco town, petroleum refinery. nice old Perry Maxwell Country Club golf course. aunt and uncle still live on a bluff overlooking the country club and city....nice crib. he listens to the Royals games on the radio and drinks beer on the patio. we play a few holes on PCCC when the sun is going down. par 3, par 4 out and par 5 coming back (14, 15, 16 or something). Driver, 5 and 9 iron, putter. he sucks but i'm still pretty good. OK State peeps, but solid folks.
edit: PC is also the home of Head Country BBQ sauce. highly recommended.
