Why a .45 Colt?

If you wanna blast .410s out of it... cool.

If it's just to sling bullets, go with a .45ACP.

But Taurus and S&W both make a fine revolver. Colt still makes the best wheelgun, at a notably higher price.

About laser sites....

I agree that they are very useful for medium range shooting. Not so sure you want them though for a self defense weapon.

Shooting an intruder in a home is quite likely to occur at close range, possibly within 10 feet. I'm no pistol expert (although did shoot expert this summer with the 9mm) but, it seems to me that one should get pretty good at hitting center of mass at 15 ft with regular practice. So beaming a laser site might not improve marksmanship appreciably, but it could give away the element of surprise.

I guess the best option might be to have the sites and use them when appropriate.

Except when you're not at home, then Ye Olde German Shepard works pretty well.

Also exceptional at running off annoying salesmen and Jehovah witnesses, even when you are at home.

I had to sell my guns before moving to New Jersey and my 870 was the best hunting shotgun.

Algore was talking about gun bans when I moved back here. I asked a buddy that was a former SEAL about the Sig-Sauers they used with the tritium sights before they had a bad rap for rusting near the ocean and jams. They went back to Berettas after the problems of the slides jamming with the sand and the constant rust issues

So for home protection he told me that I should save my money because if someone has an actual home invasion then going with a semi-auto shotgun would be best. The sound of manually chambering shotgun rounds might seem cool, be he said it would be best to get a semi-auto Mossberg 500 series

So one of the guns I bought was a Mossberg 500 "Persuader" for around $200 after listening to the reasoning for not buying an expensive new hand gun. 00bk and a pack of Sabot bullets are good enough.
