Okie Lite @ Mizzou

Interesting match-up in the pick'em this week. I see most people so far are going for OSU -7.5 and I don't blame them. On paper at least, Mizzou should be a 15 point dog but for some reason the oddsmakers have given them some respect that they really haven't earned. Well, they did cover at OU but that was mainly due to a garbage time TD.

Is OSU really all that? Was winning handily at Tejas last week and coming back from being down 20-3 at ATM all that impressive? Perhaps, but I don't see it. Caught Mike "I'm 40, I'm a Man" Gundy on the bitter elfs show this afternoon and couldn't help but think that a version of the SI jinx was going to kick in over that misbegotten experience.

This is a trap game for the Pokes. Not only will they not cover, they'll lose on a late FG. Henry Josey (the leading rusher in the XII, in case you didn't know) goes for 150+.

MU 38
OSU 35

Gundy was picking up his jungle karma. Mizzou will get waxed by at least 20.

i'd love to see MU win at home but OSU is a covering machine so far. they looked pretty human against Texas most of last week but UT is beating themselves a lot, too. UT wins a lot at DKR but doesn't mean it's a snakepit for visiting teams vis a vis crowd noise. UT fan is in freefall "quit" because anything less than their usual 2nd best in the conference is beneath them. so, the usual hyperbole, self-fellatio and puffery one is used to in Austin may not be as fashionable.

i like Josey and Franklin is young but against a decent not great OSU D (with a legit DC in Bill Young).....MU is too easy to get one-dimensional. is Franklin going to beat you throwing it? MU hasn't exactly been the steel curtain so far. So, that OSU isn't either may not be an issue.

Okie State total D ranked in the triple digits. Not the stuff of legends right there.

yeah, OK. but, how many times has OSU not covered out of 6 wins. you are going to up and bet a Mizzou team that didn't cover against against Miami (OH) at home and big bragging point above is halfass game they cover backdoor against OU (MU scores with .38 seconds left)....and lost as faves at KSU (that was easy money)? lost to ASU? that first half against OU was the best i've seen MU all year. i wouldn't roll that. Kansas was running the ball on OU last Sat.

OSU ain't known for D. we all know that.

i kinda want to like Mizzou. but, i don't know. they haven't really kicked ass after the OU game. kinda like last year. win at Faurot and then tank in Lubbock.

I don't feel overly confident about that Mizzou pick, I just think Okie Lite is a bit of a papertiger in the grand scheme of things due to that defense. They're Oregon, with a worse d. Good team, possibly BCS worthy, but it stops there for me. I think they drop 2-3 in conference between Mizzou, K State and OU.

Faurot Field emptying out now...i gotta say all my life i've heard about how Mizzou is a sleeping giant....but, having read tigerboard.com most of the early 00's as well....rank and file Mizzou fan is a quitter who thinks a 7 win season with Larry Smith and "Brad" was awesome but a 7 win season with Pinkel is crap. i don't get that.

and Norm Stewart never lost a game.

not our guys here, Wags, Tru, etc.....they seem measured in their self-hate***, expectations. i say that as a compliment.

***self-hate seems to be an issue with Missouri fans, like Colorado fans. i don't get that. fan base psychology is weird.

You're not going to be in many games in which you turn the ball over 4 times. Mizzou could pretty much run at will but for some reason they had Franklin throwing the ball and bad things happened more often than not. Not one but two Ints off tipped balls at the line. Ouch.

Props to OSU on forcing those turnovers and just outplaying the Tigers today.
