1. Alabama: Whereas a couple of teams have proven that LSU's defense can be had, no one has even put a dent in Alabama's armor. Also, they have a real running game, something which LSU lacks. On top of that, the game will be in Tuscaloosa.

2. LSU: No one else even seems close.

3. Okie St: No way in fuck that defense carries them to a national title. A Big 12 title, maybe, but not a national title, and until they can get over the hump against Big Brother they won't get out of the Big 12 anyway.

4. Stanford: Other than Alabama, is there a more consistent betting lock in all of America? Say what you will about their schedule so far, but they keep covering these 28-point spreads like they're nothing. If they demolish USC, only Oregon may yet prevent them from playing the SEC winner for all the marbles. The Big 12 winner will have a loss.

5. Clemson: Similar to Okie St in that they have a tremendous offense but not enough defense to beat Alabama, LSU, Stanford or Oregon.

6. Kansas St: We'll obviously know more about them come this time next week. If they beat a pissed-off OU, they're going to win the Big 12.

7. Oregon: the best of the one-loss teams.

8. Boise St: With their schedule it really pains me to include them, but what are we gonna do?

9. Wisconsin: Yeah, I know Michigan St eeked one out against them, but MSU was destroyed by a meh ND team. Which loss is the more damning? Also, it took a miracle of a lifetime for MSU to win at home, and I think we all know who would be favored in a rematch on either a neutral field or at Camp Randall.

10. Michigan St: Really torn between these guys, OU and Arkansas for this spot. While I suspect both OU and Arkansas are better and would win on a neutral field, Sparty owns the superior resume.

Though the hail marry itself was "miraculous," it didn't TAKE a miracle to win the game. Still woulda had a chance to win in OT had the ball been batted down.

Just like we all know who was favored in East Lansing.

Love how a hypothetical game carries more weight than the one that was actually played.

The ND-Sparty game was actually played, as well. Like I said, which loss is the more damning?

It's about the whole body of work to this point. MSU has played the tougher schedule, won head-to-head, and did so as a 7-8 point underdog. Any halfway reputable poll will reflect this as well. Not sure what more you need. Not saying they deserve some inflated ranking, but they definitely deserve to be ahead of Wisky at this point.

Of course, since MSU's ceiling is the Rose Bowl, and controls their own destiny as far as that goes, rankings really don't mean anything for the Spartans.

I could easily throw MSU, Wisky, Arkansas and OU in a hat and be fine with whatever order they come out. They're all equally #9 to me right now. If MSU can just take care of business on the road, hey, they'll have the opportunity to make any MSU-Wisky rankings debates moot.

1- Alabama
2- LSU
3- Oklahoma State
4- Stanford
5- Clemson
6- Boise State
7- Oregon
8- Kansas State
9- Arkansas
10- Houston

It's late enough in the year that regardless of schedule an undefeated record means something. At least if the "every game counts" bullshit CFB honk always spouts means anything. So K-St and Houston crack my top 10. Oregon and Arkansas my most deserving 1 loss teams.

Simple answer is MSU couldn't run the ball. At all. That was the biggest factor. It was (still is) a young O-line that had yet to really gel, and that game was their first true test. Also have to credit ND for playing well defensively. I also thought ND played with a lot more emotion, and simply wanted (needed) it more. I didn't think that would be a factor going into the game, but it most certainly was.

1. Bammer
2. LSU
3T. Stanford - I'd like to put Stanford alone at 3 but I'll wait until I see them play SC.
3T. Okie Light
5. Boise State
6. Clemson - I just don't have much respect for the ACC right now.
7. Oregon - Prolly better than Clemson or Boise State but there is that loss.
8. Sparty - Prolly one of your Rose Bowl teams
9. K State - Would move up quickly if they win their next two
10. Wisconsin
11. Oklahoma - Overrated, IMO, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them lose 2 or 3 more games

nd is a pretty good team so long as they don't turn the ball over 17 times in the red zone.

1. Cal

2. Stanfurd

3. Boise State ( they went on the ROAD to play an SEC team and crushed #22 Georgia in their own state )

4. LSU

5. Oregon ( lost on the ROAD to an SEC team that was basically playing a HOME game... due to a true freshman that coughed it up twice for a couple of easy TD's )

6. Alabama ( they haven't played anyone yet, and if Tennessee had Bray and Hunter playing they would have had a good chance of beating 'Bama last week )

7. Michigan State ( should crush #13 Nebraska on the ROAD this weekend )

8. Wisconsin ( a poor man's Stanfurd )

9. Oklahoma State

10. Kansas State
