Not to mention Sam stating that he doesn't want Mizzou and ATM in the SEC because they'll only further water down the conference with two more meh football programs.

He's right, of course, but let's at least try to maintain a modicum of consistency in our takes, okay, SECBSH's?

And for the record, I thought the exact same thing when I heard about Colorado joining the Pac. Other than adding a middling-at-best portion of the Denver television market, which really doesn't mean a whole lot considering the Pac already owned the California/Portland/Seattle/Phoenix markets, Colorado brings nothing in terms of athletics to the table. I'm not sure that Utah will, either. Would've much rather seen Utah packaged with BYU, never mind that whole 'Sandy Koufax won't pitch on the Sabbath' argument. Arrangements could have been made to accommodate the ridiculous precepts of their silly cult.

I like the Missouri folks in here just fine.
This.

Our anger has nothing to do with the Southeastern Conference. The SEC folk in here are fine people, and no doubt a pretty good representation of their respective fanbases and the schools they jock. I'm sure we'll get in the sperit of things around here eventually.

But not immediately. Where many of us are sideways with this move lies with the petulance, arrogance, and general asshattery of our sitting governor, his toadie, Brady Deaton, and his hand-picked Board of Lapdogs which led to this ill-thought move in the first place. Even our local politicians - with an annual windfall of $15 extra-large all-but guaranteed to walk - virtually treated the move as a third-rail issue and fled from the controversry for fear of irritating the sensibilities of Kanzler Nixon.

Recall is too good a fate for this SOB. Given our new (and old) southern roots, a good tar-and-feathering would be more appropriate...[/rant]

This was a major, major move for the university.

But I think you've done the right thing as far as security and finances. I know Mizzou wanted to join the Big Ten (and thought they were in) as it was a better fit academically apparently. Don't know why they went with Nebraska over you guys.

U of M will do fine with the SEC. You're gonna be dragging down a crapload of money (the SEC shares bowl money among all the schools) and the academics aren't inferior as some asshats in here want to believe.

If you make it to away games, you'll love Tuscaloosa, Auburn, Gainesville, Knoxville, Athens...hmmmm you're in the East...never been to a game in Lexington, but it's a beautiful city. Nashville's a fun city. Shitloads of good music...not just country bars by any means. Never been to Columbia.

Anyway, it'll take a long time to adjust, but it'll be good for the school financially. And you know damn well the Big 12 is going to implode before long, so you had to do something.

^^^^^

Gets it.

This is a HUGE step up academically, sports-wise, and fiscally for MIZZOU.....much more than the Big 10 would have been and definitely over what will be left of the Big 12 once Texas and Oklahoma bolt. Columbia, MO is a great college town and will fit right in with the rest of the SEC, although from the games I have been to in Baton Rouge, Oxford and Auburn we have to step it up a bit. College football is a religion in the south and makes the stupid kansas-Missouri "tradition" look like a joke in comparison, not to mention we get to trade Ames, Lowrents, Manhattan, Norman, Lubbock, etc for Gainesville, Tuscaloosa, Nashville, Knoxville, Athens, Oxford, Baton Rouge, etc. Small minds like Truman, Scott, Whitey, etc. can't think past their neighborhood Applebee's.

Major move forward!

With the exception of Northwestern (and Vanderbilt is superior), the Big 10 is full of crappy state schools that are no better than anything the SEC offers.

Fatass didn't know that the SEC only had two AAU rated schools Vandy and Florida. Part of why they wanted aTm & Mizzou was that accreditation.

Sam, I'd be willing to take your bet, especially where the Pac 10 and Big 10 and are concerned. Between Stanford, Cal, UCLA and USC I'm fairly sure the Pac more than has Vandy covered. Northwestern is on par with Vandy, and I believe Michigan trumps Florida by a wide margin, as well as any other SEC school. If there's anything the SEC as a whole is not known for, it's conference-wide stellar academics.

He’s as big as a house, and he’ll eat all your food
He's got rolls and rolls of ugly fat, hanging over his belt he's the Kansas City Kid.
Yeah, he found a dozen Hooter’s wings.
In his mommy’s fridge hidden behind a bunch of green things, and I know you are but what am I?
And he’ll tard up the Board, while he plows through a pie.

Kansas City Kid with the fucked up takes, weighs a ton, weighs a ton, and he’s gonna get run
Kansas City Kid with the fucked up takes, weighs a ton, weighs a ton, watch him Hoover a buffet

Mommy works on her back.
She'll be bringing home soon a BK Value Pack.
And he stuffs his grill with apple pies.
Dinner's long been in his belly but he’s hungry for fries.
His weight is nearing all-time.
Yeah another éclair and he’ll be that much bigger,
He squeezes another roll of fat.
And he can’t see his junk but now has huge man tits, yeah.

Did Gov. Nixon not cheerlead a move to the B1G last year, and piss off Nebraska on the way out in the process?
Did Gov. Nixon not cheerlead a move to the SEC this year, and piss off the whole conference on the way out in the process?
Did Gov. Nixon not hand-pick the Missouri Board of Curators?
Did Gov. Nixon not delay the appointment of Thomas Hoenig, Iowa State grad with deep roots in the Big 8 and the Big XII as Systems President back in July?

Tired of waiting for confirmation, Hoenig accepted a position to serve President Obama as Vice Chairman of the FDIC. BTW, Systems President is the defacto CEO and ultimate decision maker for such little trivialities as conference realignment.

Minor nit, but Nebraska is no longer in the AAU (first member ever to be voted out, IIRC, although others have left voluntarily). So that's 11 of 12 in the B1G.

And while AAU membership is prestigious, and I obviously have a bias in this regard, I wouldn't quite call it the be-all and end-all of discussion as to what constitutes a great academic university. There are plenty of outstanding academic institutions that are not AAU members. Dartmouth, Georgetown, and my alma mater come to mind rather quickly in that regard.
Sudden Sam wrote:I heard Missouri described yesterday as "the ugly girl at the end of the bar at closing time with nowhere to go".
I heard that same description as well, although it was several months ago and in a drastically different context. At the time, it looked like the Texas and Oklahoma schools were headed to the Pac-12, the Big XII was about to implode with the Big East and/or ACC picking up the scraps. A few months changed things dramatically.

Well, yeah, Sammy, but since we're all settin' around and sayin' "howdy" an' stuff, just thought I'd offer up proper parlance for your new conference-mates. After all, you all don't roll by AU, right? I'm thinking that moniker probably belongs to the folks just east of you.

"Mizzou"; or "MU" if you must, Sam. We're the second of the three "Tiger" schools in this conference ( :meds: ) that actually wears one unique to their school on its uniform. That U of M place you speak of stole their helmet design from Delaware.

Terrible analogy. Mizzou and A&M are going somewhere. Most of the other Big 12 teams are sticking it out with the Big 12 not because they want to but because they were not invited to leave the bar with someone.

Mizzou is the ugly girl getting picked up at closing time.
