The Annual Chris Petersen is being wooed by

various major football programs in need of revitalization of their respective programs....eastern and deep south programs need not apply.....speculation on who will come calling runs rampant, but the early front runners are:
Arizona State (not a fucking snowballs chance in hell-a potential disaster for anybody that steps into that hornet's nest)
Washington State (even less of a chance than Az State)
But the one opening that does worry me a little is UCLA....with the new TV contract and an apparent committment to improving the perception of the football program, UCLA might hold some intrigue for Petersen....conventional thinking is that if he wouldn't look seriously at Stanford (and they came calling) why would he even consider a program like UCLA?
but I can see why a program like UCLA might interest Petersen....it's a program that's lost a lot of it's luster and credibility, both of which I think Petersen could go a long way in restoring.....they've got the money to provide Petersen's assistants the kind of money Petersen thinks they deserve.....he'd have the opportunity to compete at a higher level with the chance to potentially play for a national championship....he'd be afforded a much larger talent pool from which to draw, and one thing Petersen can do, is take an average player and make them good, and take a good player and make them great.....
the two biggest things that UCLA would need to overcome is
1. Loyalty-Petersen is loyal almost to a fault....he's acknowledges that Boise State has done everything in their power to commit to him the resources he's asked for and he's stated time and time again that puts a enormous value on the committments Boise State has made to him...but if Petersen feels he's taken BSU's program as far as he can, he might make the jump
2. Petersen likes living in Boise-his 1.5 million dollar salary will go a lot further here, than a 3 million dollar salary will in Los Angeles, coupled with the fact that it's really never been about money for him.....his kids love living in Boise and he's extremely reluctant to take them out of school and move them.....LA after all is LA, and no offense, but that place is pretty much of a cesspool....
if UCLA can overcome those obstacles, they might be able to wrest him away from BSU....we'll see

i think he's probably had interest shown by programs better than all the Pac teams on the coaching carousel in the last few off-seasons. Peterson seems like he's headed the Mark Few/Gonzaga route. despite whatever speculation, he, himself, doesn't seem to do anything that suggests he might make a move.
and if so, good for Boise.

Have you checked out what Westwood/Santa Monica/Brentwood/Palisades/Bel Air, etc. look like? The weather? I heard one motive might be the cancer center UCLA is renown for and CP's kid. If Mrs. Petersen gets a gander at a casa that they would put them in (maybe next door to a Laker), it will be all over....IF 4 mil annually ain't enough, then maybe he is yours for life.

I can't imagine ASU going to the Boise well again after the Koetter debacle. I was reading in today's fishwrap that they're pretty high on Sumlin. One of the local hacks even wrote an editorial saying they should hire Tressel, simply based on his undefeated record against DickRod. Heh.
The ASU situation is kind of baffling. Seems like it shouldn't be that hard to succeed here in Tempe, what with the great weather, numerous amenities and thousands of nubile young hotties traipsing around campus every day. I can't imagine why any red-blooded, heterosexual teenager wouldn't want to spend 4-5 years here. They don't really have a lot of alumni support though. Phoenix is a pretty transient city. People love living here, but they don't exactly rally behind the local sports teams. I guess I'm as guilty of it as anyone else, but I was a CU alum before I was an ASU alum. It is what it is. I think winning is going to have to come first for ASU, and then the fickle alumni support might follow.
Wazzou might actually be a step down for CP at this point, BCS conference or no. I think he'd have a better shot at winning an MNC in Boise than Pullman.
I could see UCLA being tempting, but after watching Koetter and Hawkins fail miserably at BTPCFB schools, I think Peterson might realize that he's better off in the long run staying put.

My bad. Hadn't heard about the Leach hire and was just commenting on the teams Felix had mentioned. I think that's a good hire for Wazzou, but not sure if it's a good move for Leach.

Exactly what I was going to say. We're not talking fucking Compton here, Felix, we're talking endless mansions, rolling hills, and a mere fifteen-minute drive down one of the most gorgeous boulevards in the world to Will Rogers State Beach in the Pacific Palisades.
Once they actually saw the place, I can nearly guaran-fucking-tee you that Petersen's kids wouldn't have to be asked twice about moving to such a "shithole."

Yeah, and Felix's point remains that Petersen is happy in Boise and isn't easily wooed by big & shiny things, otherwise he'd have bolted long ago. You're describing things attractive to a retiree not a man putting in 80 hour work weeks.
I hope dude stays. This kind of loyalty in BTPCF is almost unprecedented.

Pssst.... LA is the biggest shithole in the state...and only Sacramento and the other Central Valley communities can claim a close second.
The road signs to the Rose Bowl are so black with soot you can barely read them. Get back to me when U$C and fUCLA have an on campus stadium.
Oh by the way, Petersen is a Northern California guy and went to UC Davis.
If he turned down Stanfurd... you really think he would want to raise his kids in the shithole known as LA ???

We are also talking over inflated cost of living, median home prices just short of $600K for less than 3000 sq/ft, an jail population north of 77,000, taxes, gridlock, smog, etc, etc.
The point is you see it one way and someone else sees it another. Just because it works for some doesn't mean it works for everyone. For 7 years I could have lived anywhere I wanted since both the spouse and I worked for our company, LA and California never crossed our minds once.

Mgo, I too would applaud anyone who stays anywhere for the right reasons, which may be the case with Chris Petersen. My only point was that the area of L.A in which UCLA is located is by no means anyone's idea of a "cesspool." (Thanks to M Club for the correction, since "shithole" was not the word used by Felix.)
Look, M2 is certainly a world-class tool, but I do love Berkeley. Even so, while the Cal campus is certainly beautiful, much of Berkeley and its immediate inland surroundings could rightfully be called a "shithole" compared to Westwood, never mind Bel Air, Brentwood, and the Palisades. Sure, Peterson might fear bringing his kids there, and those kids very likely are happy where they are, but I still maintain that if Mom and Dad went to them and said, "Kids, I'm thinking of taking a new job that'll pay me three times as much as I make now. UCLA wants to hire me, and I've checked out the area. It really is a paradise. We think you'll love it. Would you be willing to take a look?" then yep, absolutely, those kids would lose their freaking minds over how much ass their new prospective home kicks compared to their current one. Once they spent a single weekend there scoping out the campus, the beaches, the malls, the gorgeous people, the beautiful hills and homes—all while walking around in shorts, t-shirts and sandals during the dead of winter—I have a fairly strong suspicion that they'd be fine with the move. More than likely it wouldn't be any objections by the kids that'd prove to be the deal-breaker, it'd simply be a case of Chris Peterson and wife preferring to raise their children in Boise. Or, for that matter, it could be their own preference for Boise.
Given the opportunity, though, the kids would quickly get on board with the idea of living in one of the more deservedly exclusive zip codes in the entire world.

None of which would apply to or seriously affect their particular situation. Between his UCLA contract/endorsement deals Chris Peterson would easily make upwards of $4,000,000 per year to coach UCLA, essentially tripling his current income. With that sort of a raise he could easily afford the difference in housing prices, and you're not going to tell me that the rest of the cost-of-living difference between living in SoCal vs Boise really amounts to a hill of beans for a guy who's making that much money.
The jail population? WGARA? That has no effect on the daily lives of rich people living in Bel Air or the Palisades. It's just a statistic to them, same as it is to you.
Smog? In the Palisades? Not really. Not a whole lot of smog at the beach.
Gridlock? Yes, there'd be more traffic, but considering where UCLA is located and where the Peterson family would likely live, they would rarely need to spend any time on freeways. They could live close enough to campus—as well as to everything else they'd ever require—that their commutes would be next-to-nill.
The point is you see it one way and someone else sees it another. Just because it works for some doesn't mean it works for everyone. For 7 years I could have lived anywhere I wanted since both the spouse and I worked for our company, LA and California never crossed our minds once.
Like I said, if Peterson decides to stay in Boise for all the right reasons, more power to him. I'm just saying, UCLA and its immediate environs are by no means a cesspool, and I'm sure his kids would love the area even if he wouldn't want to raise them there.

Not disagreeing on the cesspool or whatever some were calling it. Just saying it isn't the holy grail either as some would imply.
Drew could have left Valpo for many other jobs too, but didn't because he liked his situation. Just sayin'.

don't take this shit personally, of course I know not all of LA is a shithole....but the truth is that shiny objects, luxurious homes, and proximity to movie stars are not what drive Petersen....he lives in a relatively modest home , in a low-key neighborhood, in a higher end subdivision....
this is the house he lives in...does it look like he gives a fuck about big houses, and ostentatious living....the house is about 3,800 sf and worth about $750,000
like I noted, there are two factors that are necessary....when he feels he's done all he can, and when he believes that a school is willing to make the commitment to success that he feels offers him the best chance to succeed....until that time comes, AD's can bring him boatloads of cash and that's not what's going to lure him away....

I could buy that hellhole for around $100,000 and probably get away with around $75,000 for that barn in the middle of nowhere.

so obviously you must know a lot about real estate.....
tell you what, find me some listings of dwellings of similar age, quality, size, and construction components down where you live and PM the links of the listings to me.....seriously, if you've got houses like this where you live going for $100k, I'm really interested in buying them.....if any of them are houses I'm interested in, I'll have you run down to the local Assessors office and pull some data on them for me and we'll go from there....
I normally pay about a 1% finders fee when the deal is closed, so that could be a grand in your pocket for nothing more than a few mouse clicks and a round trip to your county Assessors office....

what does any of this have to do with my request....
I'm still waiting on those property listings....you've got one of two choices here.....
1. you can keep blathering on about what you think you know, or
2. you can provide me with some listings of similar quality houses in your area for $100,000 and give yourself the opportunity to make some bank with a little time and some effort....

You do realize the real reason Peterson stays is because of his son and his illness right? Boise doesn't have shit outside of a hospital and the world's most renowned doctor for his son's illness. If an LA hospital hires said doctor away Peterson follows.

you mean all of the top flight doctors from around the country that have moved here don't mean shit....the fact that my personal physician was at one time one of the primary diagnosticians at Walter Reed Medical Center doesn't carry much weight....and that we have two of the top rated heart surgeons west of the Mississippi living here in Boise....that we have some of the best oncologists in the country working at the MSTI center right here in Boise....given the fact that one of my good golfing buddies is a top flight neurologist and pretty much keeps me up to date about the quality of medical care in boise, I'd say you know pretty much jack shit about this area....

Im not saying that UCLA is the right fit for Peterson, it certainly isnt the right fit for Boise's players as they would have to go to class at UCLA and at Boise Jr College its not mandatory but Los Angeles is certainly a nicer city than Oakland which is where Cal is located.
USCs stadium is across the street from the campus with nothing but museums and beautiful parks in between them

As well as Westwood, Brentwood, Bel Air, the Palisades, etc. I get the feeling that a lot of people around the country have the same misconceptions about "L.A." as they do about California, as if either can be pigeonholed as just one thing. Eureka, Alpine or Susanville are as far-removed as Fargo from most people's idea of "California," and comparing Hollywood, Compton or downtown L.A. with Brentwood and the Palisades is equally silly.
Still, if Petersen and his family are happy in Boise, why change? He's got more than enough money already, so really it comes down to the question concerning his ability to win a national title there. Maybe the life he enjoys in Boise outweighs his football ambitions? If so, good for him.

The UCLA campus is in Westwood, which is absolutely gorgeous. Westwood borders Bel Air and Brentwood and is just a short drive down Sunset Bl to the Pacific Ocean and Pacific Palisades.
Is it in L.A.? Yes. On one side it does border Wilshire Bl and Century City. All nice, high-end "L.A." areas. Is it what you apparently think of when you envision the shitty aspects of L.A.? Nope. From the moment you hit the campus and head anywhere north or west, it's paradise.
