Turn 40 in March...FUCK!...Going to LA for a mini-vacay
On the agenda so far. Go see the new Cirque Du Soleil at the Kodak Theatre, taking a Helicopter tour up the coastline and over greater LA, maybe going to do the Universal Studios tour/park thing for a day. Maybe go to a Lakers game.
Do any of you have some suggestions on other cool things to do while we are there?

Is the "Valley" in or near LA? Is there any other good reason to visit the "Valley" than said sub sammich? I don't need much, I am a fat fuck.
Re: Turn 40 in March...FUCK!...Going to LA for a mini-vacay

The Valley is in L.A. County, on the other side of the Santa Monica Mountains. Depending on traffic over the 405, figure twenty-five minutes from Wlshire Bl. And no, you won't bother to go to the Valley as part of an L.A. vacation. I would, because I have all the best food places down pat there, but it's not like the Valley has a lock on any of that shit.
Since you're coming from Key West (IIRC), I don't know that visiting any SoCal beaches would really be worth your while either. However, if you want to see some traditional L.A. freakery while enjoying a nice day at the beach, definitely check out the circus that is Venice Beach.

You could go to a city council meeting in San Fernando. That could be interesting....

I turned 34 today. My mini-vacation was three days of fire school.
I got to don an SCBA pack on several occasions
I got to rescue a 150lb dummy on the second level of a smoke induced building
I got to go up the stairs of a prop unit with a three inch hose shooting 250GPMs
I got blasted by a monitor shooting 750GPMs while attempting to block in a valve
Great b-day!

Do yourself a favor and go here:

Look at the locations. You'll thank me later. If you go up the 405 to the "Valley" then there is one right off the exit of 405 and Roscoe across the street from the Budweiser plant.

I would gladly become a Cal fan if it meant I could have a nasty ass Tommy's double cheeseburger with that nuclear chili, the stain of which can never be removed once you get some on your shirt. There's nothing like it. No detergent can even put a dent in it.
My very first apartment out of high school was directly behind that Tommy's on Roscoe, across from Busch Gardens. I was on the ground floor, facing the Tommy's parking lot. Just about every Saturday night there would be a mini riot in that parking lot, with black chicks doing their usual shrieking and wailing. Don't know why it was like that, since way-back-when that wasn't at all a black neighborhood, but come Saturday night around 1:00 a.m. that lot would always become filled with brawling black bitches.
Besides the chili, the most amazing thing about Tommy's was the way you would place your order and they'd already be handing you your food before you could even get your money out. It was fucking awesome. Damn, I miss that place. Horrible, horrible food, and nothing could beat it. So many times, it was exactly the right thing.

With Kodak's bankruptcy, it probably won't be the Kodak Theatre much longer.DC Smackmaster wrote:On the agenda so far. Go see the new Cirque Du Soleil at the Kodak Theatre, . . .

Couldn't agree more. However back in August we found ourselves flying into Orange County in the am before taking a midnight departure from LAX to Phuket. In between we went paddling just west of the OC airport. Saw some really nice boats, some crappy houses that were multi-million just because they were on the water but would be 400K anywhere else, and some decent eye candy. We spent about 8 hours total with the kayak, and figured that was the best time spent in CA in some time.
