Next Gen ATC can't get here fast enough...

On a quick trip to Dallas from San Antonio last month we were forced to fly twice the distance to get there. Granted we wouldn't have flown a direct line between two points, but I haven't had a trip where I had to fly more than double that straight line distance.

I threw our basic routing in Great Circle Mapper so you could see visually where we were forced to fly. Once the new ATC upgrades are in place, routes like this will be a thing of the past. Hopefully!

The straight line distance is under 250 miles. We flew over 500 to get there.

That would make the airline accountants just shit. I don't imagine your bean counters anticipated that when quoting the rate either.

Is that the clearance you got from ATC on the ground from clearance control? Whatever happened to flying direct?
