Another Old Beat's Weather Thread...

...So fuck off, Screwey.

M’okay.

So I’m beginning to think that there just might be something to this whole SOUTHeastern Conference thingie…

I just made my second run through the yard on my John Deere this month.

It’s March. And I’ve NEVER mowed grass on St. Patrick’s Day. Ever. And its 77-friggin’-degrees outside today. Not that I’m complainin’. But that tractor still had a snow-blade attached to its nose this time last year.

I ran a 4-miler in the snow this time two years ago.

What’s next? Moss in the trees? Gators in the cricks?

And here we were a’countin’ on November weather to take them southern schools down a peg-or-three when they came trottin’ into Columbia…

I guess that banner in Harpo’s was right: It’s Better in the South. Anyone else "suffering" through unseasonable wather?

Don't forget about the throngs of poorly educated fat people.

Oh.

You've got 77?

It's a balmy 57 here in sunny (OK cloudy) SoCal, and waiting for the eminent downpoor.

I've never had to mow in March before. Today I mowed for the second time this year.

This, after probably the warmest winter and least amount of snow since records have been kept in these parts. Yes, this is weird, but I'm not complaining. I'd rather mow than shovel.

flowers on the magnolia and crabapple have come. and gone. gone before april.

garter snakes already out and sunning themselves. lazy garter snakes need to be eating slugs more and sunning less.

hostas coming up before april.

hallergies kicked in four weeks early.

peas are already a foot high. last year's parsley and radishes never died back over the winter so they're doing great now.

We're getting 70's and even an occasional 80 degrees up here too. My yard could stand to be mowed too but I'm too damn stubborn to mow in March, even though that's preferable to scooping snow. It's supposed to be in the 70's all week with a little rain in the forecast a couple of days, so I'm sure I'll be mowing sometime this week. I've never mowed in March before but there's a first time for everything.

my lawn is at the "early spring keep it high to keep weeds from getting sun exposure" level but also at the "cutting over 50% hight can damage the grass".

climate change, global warming, whatever.

The real question is if it's man made and if anything can be done about it, which I tend to disbelieve as I think we're ants crawling around on this rock, completely powerless to affect cyclical weather trends in any way whatsoever.

Just stop. What's next, Bace? Obama is really an American? :meds:

To their credit, the local weather geeks have backed off GW lately, and have laid the phenomena on the jetstream. Whatever. But if this stuff keeps up, I'm startin' to think tomatoes - and six weeks early at that.

Truman, that's probably the coolest SEC logo I've seen. I still hate it, and I particularly hate to see you sporting it, but it is a cool logo.

Made me laugh.

It IS a very cool logo, Van. Pro'ly sport it til the next Mizzou revenue sport kicks in - or the Royals catch fire.

Whichever comes first. :|

Oh, the Royals always seem to catch fire. The problem is that the league usually manages to put them out by mid-May, then the rest of the season smells like burnt tires.

Good. Then recruiting southern kids to a “northern” clime shouldn’t be an issue – it doesn’t seem to bother our Texans much…

My dig was a poke at this year’s schedule makers… We don’t play a single SEC school in Columbia after October 27th.

Rest assured, Sammy, we’re familiar with heat and humidity in these parts as well…

Bumpola.

So, Flyovers, et. al. ...

That completely fucked up jet stream that's fucking with you right now?

I'm sitting at Ground Zero, where it meets our fine continent.

From my hotel window (OK, on the deck), from a poopoo camera camera in shitty visibility a couple of hours ago:

Saw winds over 70MPH today.

You can't tell from those pics, but those seas are pushing 20 feet+.

If by "fucking with you right now" you mean "bringing us unseasonably warm weather", yeah, that's totally fucked up.

Talk to the people in points south of you, and see if they feel the same way.

Oh, and maybe check into some current events or something.

Rack. Just completed my third run through the yard.

In March.

:x

Um, what Goobs said. BTW, Missouri is "points south" of Wisconsin...

Killer pics though, Dins. And here we all had misgivings that the U&L never sucked. You take up lighthouse duty?

Kept looking for George Clooney's Andrea Gail to wash up on the beach in one of those pictures...

That is just the view you can get from about a million places along the coast for a very reasonable price. That is perfect weather for Dins..smokin weed, drinking good brew and banging skanks in beach front lodging is a fairly common past time in that shitty weather.

Although with Din's eye for decks, the hand rail in that one looks like it needs some work.

There's tornadoes in the flyover states during tornado season? Yeah, we're shocked.

Mine needs a third -- except the mower would sink into the swamp. If we don't mow multiple times by the end of March, it's knee-high.

Although as of now, we have a new rainfall record for March... cracked it by 9 this morning. In the last 3 years, the crazy La Nina years, we've broken every spring rainfall record, some of them set the year before. Usually has dried up pretty well by this time, with sunny and warm being the norm, occasional rains. These past 3 years have been quite the opposite.

Mr. Weatherdork swears La Nina is ending for real this time. Since it's been almost nonstop for 3 years, I'm OK with that.

Probably getting better with a storm warning from Florence, OR south to Point St George is going to push the waves up a lot. Been a long time since I have seen this many colors on the weather map.

You have not experience coastal weather until you have stood in a 60 mph gale on the south Jetty of the Columbia River...in close to shore too, not out on the tips..that is a good way to die.

Rough surf makes the whale watching almost impossible. This is the pull out on Neahakanie Mt..we set up spotting scopes here to catch the gray whale migration..

Perfect day for the Spring Beach Cleanup.

Darwin is taking aim at some Valley-dwelling transplant, waiting to time the perfect sneaker to work his magic.

And yeah, the South Jetty is a pretty impressive place to be in a big storm. I'm not walking the 4-5 miles out to the end in winter, but standing on rocks out in the ocean is pretty cool.
