Saw it yesterday. Interesting premise and a well made flick.

My daughter said the book was required reading at school last year. WTF? The book's only been out four years.

I think I see a long term marketing strategy here.

What does the publishing date have to do with anything?

It started out as a Scholastic Book, and four years later it's already a movie.

Since when did Scholastic books become required reading?

What does it matter who published it? Apparently it's a good book.

So good that teachers everywhere are making it required reading after just four years?

From an AP article:
For both, the field trip was the result of a blockbuster movie coinciding with their curriculum: They were assigned "The Hunger Games," the first book in Suzanne Collins' best-selling trilogy, as summer reading heading into the school year.
Goobs, you're not concerned about teachers pimping anti-government books?

The government has no place in the schools.

Here’s the recommended reading list for 11th and 12th graders in the Houston school district. Take note of the publishing dates.

You mean a government that's oppressing its own people? It’s just a fucking book. I’m sure that down there in Cletusville you’d happily toss it into the fire.

Your list is for recommended, not required.

Geez, the newest book I read for a class was Farenheit 451 in 1977.

You know, the one about book burning...by the government.

I couldn't agree more. That would certainly save the taxpayer a bundle.

Those are all private/Catholic school board, or whatever you've got down there recommendations. Abraham Lincoln / Vampire Hunter for grade twelve sounds a bit weird. You get what you pay for, I guess.

Read Hunger Games and Catching Fire over the last couple of nights at work. HG was good, nothing special. But CF was 10x better. Great read. I'll be reading Mockingjay on my flight to Seattle Monday morning.

Can't wait to see the flick.

Watched it last night (knew nothing about it going in, not even the premise).

Very good movie.
