Could you write one more check while you're at it? I need to get a crown in a few weeks.

I believe personal income tax and corporate tax should be abolished. They'd be replaced by some combination of tariffs, excise, and value-added tax.
Pretty simple, really, yet people look at me like I'm from another planet when I bring this up (although it could just be coincidence that it's that moment they look at me like that).
Since when should we charge people a fee to merely earn a paycheck in this country?
And corporate taxes are the devil -- proven to not work, and creates a strong incentive to "export jobs" -- with the tariff/excise/value added setup, there's incentive to keep everything here at home.
Whatever numbers it takes to make it work... let's make it work.

88, don't you feel all warm and fuzzy now that you paid that money? You are helping the poor, aren't you?

Yeah, but if we buy into the democrat's class-warfare strategy and adopt the Buffet Rule, it'll take in an extra $4-5 BILLION a year... which just about covers the deficit that was racked up... yesterday.

My "fair share" for around $6,300 will be in the mail prior to midnight tonight. Was thinking of trying the Tim Geithner/Warren Buffet method and not paying, but I realize I won't get the same deal they do. Should be way less next year as I am no longer working.

Be glad you made that much to pay taxes on. Plenty of others out there who would love to be in your shoes.
When I was in the consulting business, we had one client who we brought back from the brink, negative 6% to 4.9% positive in one year. Next year we had him up at almost 26% net profit on sales of 1.9 million. End of year, he then asks us what to do with the net profits
We told him to write a check to each one of us and that takes care of that problem.

My refund should be more than wolfman's "fair share."
Had to file the auto extension because I'm trying to figure out how to claim depreciation on a working interest in oil and gas producing properties.

Fuck you dead man.
Just because I am conservative, does not mean I hate paying taxes. Taxes are something that has to happen, for the good of society. It just had become so whored up that it becomes stupid in the way it works.
If you make enough money to pay taxes, the you did well. If you pay little or no taxes, your standard of living is probably not that high.

Nice job outing yourself as a closet conservative if you have an interest in oil and gas production.

Not really. The OL inherited it from her aunt.
I think they should ban all drilling, fracking and anything that increases production. The higher oil prices go the larger our little monthly windfall gets.
So...I can be an environmentalist and make money too.
Algore got nothin' on usins.

For those who really, really, really hate paying taxes . . .
there is an alternative.
Not quite sure it worked out all that well for the dude who renounced U.S. citizenship in favor of his dual Canadian citizenship, though. IIRC, Canucks pay a lot more income taxes than Americans do.

Those earning more than $250,000 do not pay their fair share, and if you even try and pop me in the mouth your DNA deficient kids are going to be visiting you in the hospital next time they want to see your POS face.

I get it. Lawyers should not use the word "fair" in that context. In my (3rd Grade) defense, he used it first.
But to answer your question...
circa 1999.

I would be for a modest rise in tax rates IF it applied to everyone.
This means all the shlubs currently in the wagon would see their nominal rate go from 0 to 1%. And that ridiculous joke, the EITC goes away yesterday.
A better solution would be to establish a minimum 1% rate to get everyone into the pool and abolishment of ALL deductions.
Wanna to buy a "green" car?
Wanna carry a monster mortgage?
Wanna install fancy lightbulbs that take a week to attain full brightness?
Be my guest. Just don't ask me to subsidize it.
