Seems like a clear-cut violation of NCAA rules to me. What is happening elsewhere changes nothing about that. Are they simply supposed to drop everything they have, however valid, to pursue PSU? Again - the Sandusky situation didn't take place so that other schools in violation can feel better about themselves.

So, due to Caltech's unique policy in regards to enrollment procedure, several non-scholarship athletes in D3 couldn't verify they were actually in class for 3 weeks... since Caltech students are such legendary slackers?

I've heard multiple firsthand accounts of the complete lawnessless in D1AA (FCS, whatever), mostly revolving around the rampant (and I mean RAMPANT) stedroid use in FCS (as in, the former players told me they were guilty, as was the whole team), with the full knowledge of the staff... I always just figured that the NCAA didn't really give a shit about the lower divisions... and now they're hammering on Caltech and non-schollie D3 guys?

Watch out Linfield, Mount Union, and Whitewater... you're next.

That $5000 penalty is hilarious...

This is classic NCAA...Penn State has an entire senior leadership involved in covering up crimes and they will probably get off without any significant penalties.


When I read the article and saw that the penalty stemmed from participants being academically ineligible (most because they were technically not taking enough units during the school's 'course shopping period') ... I couldn't stop laughing.

I wonder what GPA most athletes at the football factories would pull taking the courses that led to the problem for these guys ?
