Something going on this week?

I remember now... THE MOTHERFUCKING OPEN.

141st in its present form, although there's een some kind of tourney for about 400 years.

Best tourney there is.

And Ben Crane takes this one... which isn't that homer-based far-fetched. Supposed to be the nastiest rough we've seen in years, and add in some rain (at The Open? Who woulda thunk it?), and the guys who follow the mower should rise to the top, and Crane is pretty deece at hitting fairways when he has to.

Tont has a decent chance, too... sin, MA. He has no problem hitting that bladed 2I off the tee, because he trusts his long irons more than most.

Dark horses... are almost too numerous to list... here's a few

GMac (always plays his best when thespotlight is brightest)
Big Easy (playing well of late, but might be too long in the tooth)
Westy (always finds the Top 10 at Majors, en route to bridesmaiding)
Kuch?
Mahan?
Kaymer (fucker is due)
Fred Jacobsen (accurate hitter)

Some dude we've never heard of (sup Lawrie, Hamilton, all those dudes who rise from nowhere at The Open)?

I'm ready. Always a great show.

Agreed, the Open Championship is by far my favorite of the majors. It is as close ss we have to a World Championship of Golf and is usually the major that is closest to a complte examination of the field.

My pick: He wears red on Sunday and kicks sand on Goober's shaved mangina.

Dark horses: Ben Curtis, Zach Johnson

Els would be my dark horse.

Still hoping Phil can win it.

Funny, that -- dude must be superstitious or something -- shows up at the beginning of the week clean-shaven, then looks like Grizzly Adams by Sunday afternoon.

Saw a thing about Phildo and his struggles at The Open. Whoever the heck it was, was explaining how Phil's brilliance lies in his amazing ability to control spin... which doesn't help much on a wet links, and the run-it-up-and-on guys (surprised Goose never won The Open, he's a master of it) have a clear advantage.

Makes sense, I suppose.

I am going with he who gets the anti fan boys panties in a wad...and he wears a red shirt on Sundays

Dins...supposedly Crane went to the U & L and not the Across the pond route...he is the 1st alternate and needs 3 golfers to drop out...hope he gets in and him and NA play ahead of Rory...that would be EPIC...

I actually like Luke D or Ian P this week (sup took them in my fantasy pool)

Boxers will not wad up over here, boss. I don’t like Barry Bonds, either, but it has no significant effect on my life. I enjoy seeing Eldrick fail, but his success harms me not. Is that so hard for the TWBW Club to understand?

Screw, you do bring a certain kind of comedic stupid to this forum.

It's been explained over and over -- us folks who actually play golf, enjoy his ability to make shots. Better than anyone else out there.

He's not my buddy, he's not my neighbor, and since he's never committed a crime against anyone, and has given more money to charity than any athlete who has ever lived, I don't really care that he cheated on his wife, much the same way I don't care that you blow men in jackshacks.

Pretty simple, really.

^^^^ what he said

2. Masters
3. U.S. Open

4. PGA

Winner: Earl's kid
Semi-dark horses: Justin Rose, Lee Westwood, Louis Oosthuizen
Dark Horses: The Big Easy, Graeme McDowell
Really Dark Horses: wait for it...Ben Crane

Low Amateur-well there's only two of them playing, so I'll go with Alan Dunbar....have no idea who he is but he gets the nod being Irish and all....

players name most likely to give the first tee announcer sleepless nights: Thorbjorn Olesen, Prayad Marksaeng

Sorry. But it was the South Carolina branch of the TWBW Club that started it out with his tearful bleatings.

Interesting first round, what with the placid conditions. Can't wait for the weekend.

I've got a buddy that did the whole England/Scotland golf tour (Royal Lytham, Royal Liverpool, Old Course, Prestwick, and Carnoustie)

when they played Lytham, they ran into a "summer squall" as the caddie put it....my bud described it as a "4 club howler"...beat the shit out of all of them.....dude is like a 2 handicap and not sure whether he broke 90 or not.....if that weather shows up, it's anybody's tournament....

Nice call, Tarddowned. Another of your brilliant "takes".

Stevie on the bag can't hurt. Tiger is still in it, there's only a few people ahead of him. But it cracked me up watching replays on Friday at one of the par threes (12?) when he pushed it into a bunker to the right of the green, and he blamed the wind. The announcers politely pointed out that the left to right wind was howling at 3 mph.

I can't wait for the avalanche of Stevie Williams quotes if Scott holds on today. I like Scott as a player from tee to green, but I hate long putters. So I hope that boat oar he putts with takes him by the throat.

Outstanding finish. All props to Ernie. And props to Adam Scott's balky boat oar. Way to go tits up at just the right time.

I enjoy watching Tiger implode as much as the next guy but at least he didn't throw a tantrum out there today, not that I saw anyway.

Rack Ernie, dude is a class act. And rack Mucho Bulls for calling it.

I missed the part where he "imploded."

Classy in defeat, just as he's classy in victory.

As is his fellow Champion, Ernie. What a freaking show.

Majors in 3 different decades.

I dig watching any cheater with a boat oar go all vandevelde.

goes to show you that you shouldn't start trying to throw haymakers while the game is still afoot......

Scott just fell apart.....seems like a pretty decent guy....
I felt sorry for him....

it's not cheating if you can get the same equipment....anybody can use it....

just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's cheating....

He fell apart on the last 4 holes. Tardd predicted we would collapse before Sunday's round and play in an early grouping the last day. Considering that almost all of the leaders went backwards on Sunday, Scott was still striping fairways with his driver well into the round. He seemed awfully calm. But once he started to make bogeys and the lead got down to two, he suddenly seemed to feel the pressure.

Two really classy guys out there at the awards ceremony, though I'm sure Felix has a bunch of links to videos showing them dropping F-bombs, snorting blow off of strippers asses, and whatsuch. I don't understand about Dinsdale's cheating accusation regarding Scott, though. Google turns up nothing. Google "Gary Player cheating" and it's a different story.

It was in regards to the long putter (which the PGA might very well ban next year).

Fuck anyone who uses one... except Robert Garrigus, of course.

I'm not sure which is worse, to meltdown on Saturday and secure an early tee time, or to meltdown over the last four holes when everyone is watching.....

but scott's bogey parade will never replace "van de velding" a hole in golf lexicon....

On the final four bogeys I began to see a little of what I predicted.

Complete bullshit, Tardd. You claimed he didn’t want to win and by Sunday he’d be teeing off early. Adam Scott held up really well for 68 holes. The pressure finally got to him, but to suggest that he’s “too afraid to win” is just total crap. I’m surprised that his caddy couldn’t settle him down at some point. He is the great Stevie Williams, after all.

Exciting tournament to watch, but it didn't feel at all like a British Open. Course was too lush and the weather was too calm.

obviously.....

apparently when stevie said "nice easy swing" to him at 17, that translates in austrailian to "nuke this mother fucker to the left into an impossible lie thereby all but eliminating any chance for you to win it outright"

Agreed. It was awesome, but weird. Besides pumping out some bunkers from overnight rains, not much weather to speak of.

A little late to the party (was up in Shoalzieville last week), but I'm happy to see that Ernie won. Sucks for Scott, but that's the game.
