LSU head coach Les Miles announced Friday that junior DB Tyrann Mathieu is 'no longer on out team."
Miles added that "we'll miss him, but we have to go on." The head coach also noted that the decision is "permanent... he will not be back." Miles gave no specific reason other than it was "fundamental behavior" that led to the decision, but rumors circulated earlier that Mathieu failed another drug test, reportedly his third in three seasons. LSU "will help him try to find a place to play" next season, and the likeliest scenario is to move down a level of competition to an FCS program, similar to Janoris Jenkins.

So he could still be playing against SEC teams.

Oregon started random drug tests (thanks, ESPN), so I guess that's a nonstarter.

Used to be a great recruiting tool (sup Ngata, DAT, et al).

Him and Cliff Harris can pal around together this season.

Are they clones? All-Americans, playing for contenders, who didn't quite grasp the gravity of their situation.

Jsc, I'm sure you must have seen some of that moron's interviews and tweets. I know you saw how badly he got lit up in the title game. Your feeling really ought to be, "Good riddance."

'Spray, about that whole high first-round draft pick thing for this tatted up little ghetto smurf?

Yeah, not so much.

Nah. He'd have to sit out a year if he transfers to any D1 program. Language Bludgeoner is headed off to D1-AA so he can play right away.

Love his quote, too. "Looking for somewhere else to play." No mention of "some other school." Nope, just a new place to play.

Fucking genius.

Yep, and LSU Freek's clumsy little clips remain as thoroughly unfunny as ever.

The guy is profoundly unfunny. He's not even Three Stooges funny. Bob Hope rolls his eyes at him. He's "I just learned how to photoshop, sort of, and now I'm practicing sticking faces on people" funny.

We all get the jokes he's making, they're as simple as mud, yet no one but you SEC folk ever laugh at them.

Last night on our connecting flight back home from New Orleans, you wouldn't believe who sat down next to me and Mrs. Rumps. Yes, it was the one and only Honeybadger in the flesh.

I really didn't recognize him until about halfway through the one hour flight. He was listening to music the whole time, but then was asked to take his headphones off as we were about to land. I finally mustered up enough courage to talk to him, so instead of saying I'm a huge fan and all, I went a different direction.

Me: "Hey, man...what's up? What are you going to do now?"
HB: (looking down) "Guess I'm gonna go play at McNeese State."
Me: (jokingly) "Why don't you sit out the year and come play for UofH?"
HB: (grinning) "Nah...I want to play football now."
Me: "Well...good luck with the DII thing. It's gonna be different."
HB: "Thanks."

Kinda the highlight of the whole Colorado trip.

That's pretty cool. What are the odds?

Now for the crazy part of your post, why the hell were you connecting in MSY to go from CO to HOU?

Probably because he wasn't flailing feebly at the feet of a Bama receiver.

I just didn't pay attention. Was already sitting down and reading a book (Mockingjay). I just thought it was some light skinned black guy with an LSU hat on. Didn't see his blonde mowawk streak because it was covered. Finally noticed it was him when he leaned down to pick up his LSU BCS Championship Game backpack from under the seat and front of him to put up his headphones.

Seriously, how the hell did you route thru MSY to go DEN-IAH or HOU?

Tried to book IAH, but ended up having to book Southwest at Hobby because it was sort of last minute trip. I usually end up pruchasing nonstop only but for some reason I selected a connecting flight from DEN-MSY and then MSY to HOU.

Got ya.

Didn't think you took Southwest based on location. Understand why you did though. I do everything possible to avoid IAH.

IAH is just so convenient because its ten minutes from our house and we also earn points through United. I liked it when it was continental. United is horrible.

When you fly with your dearly beloved, does she make you raise up the armrest between you?

If the dumbass had even half a brain—yeah, I know—he'd sit out this year and do some damage-control on his reputation before quietly returning to the LSU squad next year. He ought to treat this season as a redshirt year, is all.

No one at LSU has said that he would in fact be allowed back next season even if he managed to stay out of trouble the entire year, but you know there isn't a chance in hell that they would say no.

The way they kept specifying his status "as of today," it's clear that they're retaining the option of doing whatever they want a year from now.

Maybe they actually would stick to their guns, but I doubt it. Similar to Notre Dame with Michael Floyd, there's too much potential for spinning it into a feel-good story by touting the "incredible turnaround" the kid made as a result of the all-benevolent university's unwavering support for a "troubled student-athlete" who just needed time to mature.

He'll probably render moot any potential problem for them by going the D1-AA route, but if he did decide to sit out a year I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see them tout their towering munificence and patient understanding as the reasons they decided to reconsider his situation.

Who is "they" and what's your source? When LSU issues a statement saying this:
"He's permanently ineligible to play football at LSU," Bahnsen said in a telephone interview Monday afternoon. "That's definite. That's what was said Friday."
Seems pretty conclusive what their stance is.

ND never booted Floyd from the program, then allowed him back in later. Any "feel-good" story that might arise from allowing Mathieu back on the team would be negated by the PR nightmare that would surely ensue from going so blatantly against their word.

"They" are Les Miles and the appropriate members of the LSU administration.

The ESPN story also said "the possibility of reinstatement would have to be approved at many levels, including university administration as well as coach Les Miles, and is being discussed."

LSU associate athletics director Herb Vincent, who is also LSU's associate vice chancellor, had not heard of such discussions going on as of late Monday afternoon.

"I'm not aware of any," he said.

But Vincent was vague when asked if Mathieu did have some chance of returning to the LSU football team in 2013.

"We're not speculating on that today," he said.

In the end, they're free to do whatever they want. If Les Miles were to stick to his guns, though, then yes, Honey Blunter has no shot.

Of course they can do whatever they want. I was just responding to your statement in which you said there's no way they'd say "no," when that's exactly what they've done.

Whatever they say now really doesn't matter. They have the luxury of taking a hard public stance because he can't put it to the test, plus they probably already know that he has no intentions of sitting out a year anyway.

I agree with you, though, in that it would be more difficult for them to cave in a year from now due to the things some of them said today.

Uh, yeah, Les sure sounds adamant, doesn't he? An immovable rock of integrity, that Grass Eater!

http://espn.go.com/college-football/sto ... lsu-tigers

When pressed for a comment about the possibility of Mathieu returning to the team for the 2013 season, Miles declined.

"I am not in any way going to speculate. He will not be on this football (team) this year -- I guarantee it. That's a fact. I have no idea beyond that," he said.

They exposed the fact that he's an undersized corner who lacks cover skills. For a corner, those are two fairly damning weaknesses.

Van, he didn't give up a touchdown all season in coverage. Yeah, he sucks.

And before anyone brings it up, I couldn't be happier that he's off the team. I've never liked the guy at all. Good riddance.
