wow, Arkansas changed up. big surprise there. you know there is a good argument that can be made that when Barry Switzer and Jimmy Johnson came to Oklahoma from Frank Broyles staff to join the late Jim McKenzie's staff in the late 60's that when Oklahoma went from the white helmet to the crimson helmet....they brought the Frank Broyles dark helmet to replace the Bud Wilkinson era white helmet...the double stripe on the white pants.....but the way Arkie has changed up a million times since then with Tron shit, when Matt Jones was their QB they changed unis every year....war OU. as we used to say on the Rome board.

Yeah, but in the end the schools will bend over for whichever company offers them the most jack. See: Michigan.

I don't give a shit if they merely sport a tiny Nike swoosh somewhere on their uni. That's fine. Just don't cave in to the whole Tron uni thing. Schools such as Michigan and USC simply do not need the extra money that badly so there's no reason they should ever even consider whoring themselves out that way.

If the school is strong enough one would think they could negotiate such that they retained the right to say what went on their unis.

USC gets paid to let Nike give them free uniforms. Think that has more to do with the swoosh than some high schooler's unwavering brand loyalty.

Michigan signed with Adidas because they doubled what Nike was giving them. They were also given a "favored nation" clause that allows them any benefits Adidas gives other schools in any future contracts not already mentioned in theirs with Michigan. I'm also troubled by the constant whoring for an extra dollar or two, but $3 million more a year to let some company dress you in the same colors a different country would also dress you in is a no-brainer.

I don't know the specifics of an apparel contract so just talking out of my ass (like everyone here), but I'm guessing the university gets final say in how their uniforms are designed. Adidas goes buck wild on Michigan's practice and sideline gear, but the uniforms are still the same.

The issue I really don't understand is all this biz with the alternate uniforms. Michigan never wore them before and suddenly last year they trotted out like five different versions. Perhaps they get a cut of sales or it'll come back to them when they negotiate a good deal since they were such willing partners or something. Then again, probably wouldn't be a big deal if all the people crying tyranny over a 10 cent increase in cigarette taxes didn't drop $50 on every new uniform tweak.
