New Big East Commish already upset SMU

So the Big East hired Mike Aresco to lead the league. He comes to the Big East with no experience in conference business, but was VP of programing at CBS. He was involved in the negotiations with the NCAA for the basketball tourney and with the SEC for their deal.
This seems like a great hire for the upcoming TV negotiations, but a questionable one for the ongoing management of the conference.
Then rumors are swirling today in the Metroplex that SMU is already upset with Aresco. These are based on the fact that Aresco has done things that show he will favor basketball schools over football schools. SMU officials are concerned that priorities are changing and these are different than what they understood when they joined.

I like the hire.
I seriously doubt that he is going to show favoritism for the basketball schools.
ESPN has the exclusive negotiating rights from September 1 - November 1. Seeing as to how a new deal was turned down last season I can't see anything getting done in that time frame with ESPN. I've seen a report that NBC/NBC Sports Network may be looking at $10 million for the football schools and $4 million for the basketball schools. That would be much better than what ESPN offered last year and NBC is certainly searching for college programming right now, so the $14 million for FB/BB schools would be a sweet deal.

I think he will be great for the TV deals, we will see on the day to day stuff.
Here's hoping for y'all that the NBC sports network thing isn't the winner. Talk about the last nail in the coffin if you sign that deal.

He'll have Carparelli around for the day to day stuff, so he should be set there.
I honestly can't see the going back to ESPN after what they did last year. Not sure how receptive Fox or CBS would be.
The NBC deal could be a good thing. The proposed plan would be to have a game on NBC at noon, ND at 3:30, and then a game from the West in prime time.

That would be great if it were NBC, not so much if it were NBC sports network.

Hey, Lefty, you ready to eat some crow?
Plans for the University of Houston's new on-campus football stadium cleared another hurdle Wednesday when the school's board of regents approved an $85 million finance package to cover phase one of the project.
The approval will allow the school to proceed with plans to begin demolishing Robertson Stadium at the end of this season. Groundbreaking on the new stadium is expected to begin in January.
Plans to expand to 60,000 is one of the phases within the next ten years. You said it was never going to happen. Well, you were wrong, asshole.
