I listen to a shit load of bootlegs that don't count as "live albums."
But when it comes to "live albums:"

No, I don't.Yes you do, motherfucker. You have a well-earned reputation for having absolute shit tastes in music. That you mod this particular forum is the equivalent of having Sirfindafold moderate a discussion of quantum physics.

Europe '72 is an all-time favorite of mine.
Also,

While it's not the music of a single artist, this album and accompanying film define a generation.

Hardly. At best, it helped define one small niche of a generation...similar to Menudo.

Somebody needs to be cunt punched for not having Live at Leeds up here already. This is just a promo clip, but you get the fucking idea.
Another great one is the 5-8-1978 show by the Dead at Barton Hall

Dude, there's a difference between a mod editing a post to make it look like you said something you didn't and a mod using strikethrough and italics to clearly indicate he made an edit in an attempt to bust your balls. It's a fucking smack board, for chrissakes. Who's really exposing their vag around here?

You'll have to forgive Gobbles, Mike. He's still a little sore an ornery from that pigskin crank that was shoved up his ass over the weekend.

I already included it in the Most Underrated list. There, I'd call it #1. For just plain Best Live Album, though, no, I'm not prepared to place it above Band of Gypsys or The Song Remains the Same.
I'd also slap 24 Nights from Clapton somewhere up there.
Oh, and hell, as for either Best or Most Underrated I've gotta mention Joe Bonamassa's Live From Nowhere in Particular.

More likely he was trying to accomplish the former, but wound up with the latter. He’s called Screwball for a reason.

More than likely what you may not like about him is that he strikes you as a nerdy white guy who isn't an 'authentic' blues dude. He's sort of the Urkel of blues rock.
Nevertheless, he is absolutely the real deal. Writing, performing, voice, lyrics, soul, chops, tone, versatility, longevity...he has it all.

While these may not rank among the "best" live albums, after seeing 'em last night for the first time, in a 2K capacity venue w/ third-row center seats, I'd say these guys should be on the top of everyone's list as far as live acts go. They are just FUN!!!

Sudden Sam wrote:Any idea who their guitarist was?
They actually had two - Duke Levine & Kevin Barry. Levine played most of the lead parts and was the "out front" guitarist. Barry pretty much stayed at the back of the stage, and probably played on only about half the songs.
The J. Geils Band is probably one of only very few bands that could lose their namesake w/o sacrificing much of their sound. They never were a truly guitar-driven band, and their sound derived more from Peter Wolf, Magic Dick, & Seth Justman than from anything terribly unique about Geils's guitar sound, although it was missed on songs like "Houseparty" and "First I Look at the Purse."

The Stones are spotty on live albums. But this one isn't just their best, it's maybe the best live album ever. It was officially released last year. Finally!
