USC at Stanford

On the surface this looks like a potential blowout.

Stanford's offense is not nearly as potent since Andrew Luck's departure (do I need MA tags for that?).
USC is loaded on offense, especially (besides Berkeley) at WR. Though Stanford's defense has improved, particularly in the backfield, their pass defense is still their weakest point.
Woods and Lee could, and probably will, have a field day on Saturday.

On the other hand, the DBs do seem to have improved. Barkley has mostly been going short and hoping for the recievers to break away. If Stanford can tackle hold down the YAC they might have a chance to keep SC under 60 points. On Stanford's side, Nunes was allowed to go downfield a little bit last week and had some success against the defensive behemoth that is Duke. The young OL is getting better by the week. It would be nice to see Barry Sanders get some playing time but he's prolly a redshirt at this point.

Bottom line. SC covers and wins 42-24.

I'd love to see Stanford pull off another last minute win, though. Kiffin would melt so hard he'd have to be squeegeed off the field.

I would be okay with that.

That would be like cheating and stuff. Still, if you're gonna use retired Hall of Famers who didn't even go to your school, fine, I'll see your Barry Sanders and raise you Lawrence Taylor.

(And yes, Terry, I realize he's referring to Sanders' kid. I joke. I'm a kidder.)

At this point I'd gladly take Sanders and let you use Taylor.

On this, we agree.

Last year the refs were instrumental in giving Stanford the win when they called TJ McDonald for a 15 yard personal foul call on a clean hit with 2 minutes to go on 3rd and 6. On top of it being such a bullshit call that even Mushmouth called it poor, the Pac then suspended McDonald for the next game.
Should have been 4th and 6, USC holds and gets the ball back to run the clock out.

Nice. You're already setting up an excuse.

What a fucking pussy.

Wrong. The correct answer is it depends on the play. As you describe it, it would not be a penalty if the WR was in possession of the ball after a catch. It might be a foul if the WR didn't catch the ball. It absolutely is a foul if the ball was uncatchable.

Why do you hate the college coaches? They make the rules. If they didn't want it in their they would remove it.

I bet if you tried to officiate they would toss you out on your ass after a few years since you clearly refuse to understand the rules as they are written.

You were wrong last year and you are still wrong today.

That initial contact clearly was "at or above the shoulder" as the rule reads. There is nothing clean about it and even the announcers understand that.

Again why do you hate the coaches?

Saw that already. I'm hoping Sanders doesn't see the field against us on 10/13, although rushing defense is far from our weakness.

Why are two of them wearing diving masks?

Of course you fail again.

The rule reads that any hit by the defense at or above the shoulders is a foul, regardless of what the offensive player did to out himself in that position. you further kicked your own ass when you say the defender had already launched himself. Coaches teach to run thru the player and wrap up, not to leave ones feet and dive.

Still a foul and will be till the coaches change the rules.

Let's get this fucker going.

I have a road maintenance association board meeting at 6:30. I'll have to DVR the second half.

Nonsense. You need to stick around this time. USC/Stanford > Road Maintenance Association Grab Ass Confab

That opening kickoff kinda sucked.

So, okay, from all the pregame analysis this sounds like we're looking at the college version of Bill Wash's Niners vs Bill Parcells' Giants: skill, speed and finesse vs punch-you-in-the-mouth power.

Could Lee be a bigger crybaby? Must be related to Schmick.

Yeah, road maintenance. Unfortunately I'm President and I have to be there. Scheduled this thing a long time ago.

Nunes is going to have to complete more than 25% to win this thing.

If you're the President, you absolutely do not have to be there. You're the fucking President. When you jump, they say, "High high, SIR!"

Shit will wait unti the Big Guy shows up. Order 'em some pizza and tell 'em to sit tight.

Nope, they were just the beneficiaries of a bogus spot on the previous play to keep their drive going.

Fourth and nineteen on the twenty-five? The kicker's hurt, so they have to go for it...and they make it!

TB #2 goes down, followed only five minutes later by Silas "Kid Fumble" Redd, TB #1?

Not good. If they're both out, this is going to get ugly.
