So, what's a "Canadian-bruthah-from-another-mutha" supposed to do if he wants to get his 420 on, but doesn't smoke?

The answer? Marty's Marijuana Tincture...

aka ~ Saskatchewan Space Juice
aka ~ Northern Dew
aka ~ Green Dragon (which I base my recipe on)

Here's the recipe:

Take 1/4 ounce of some nice dank.
Grind it as finely as possible. If you find it impossibly sticky to do with your fingers, you can use a coffe grinder.
Nature's Medicine

Take a clean mason jar and pour your solution of choice in. We are making an alcohol based tincture, so I'm using Wray And Nephews Jamaican Over-Proof Rum (63% alcohol content). 90%+ grain alcohol is difficult to acquire here in Ontario and a bottle of Bacardi Over-Proof (75% alcohol content) is more than what I want to spend. Generally, the higher the alcohol content, the better, as the alcohol will extract the THC molecules and bind with them. When can evaporate excess alcohol later, if you desire.
I'm using approximately 175ml of rum to 1/4 ounce of choice bud here.
Da' Juice

Pour the finely ground weed into the mason jar with the rum, screw the lid on and gently agitate it for about 5 minutes.
You'll notice the liquid slowly take on a brownish-green tint. This is the alcohol acting as a solvent and removing chlorophyl and plant oils (including THC) from the herb.

Now, you'll need to be patient, because I'm going with the "cold extraction" method. Safely store the jar in a cool, dark place for at least 1-2 weeks. Shake the contents of the jar for 5 minutes or so twice a day. I think any more than two weeks is overkill for THC extraction and less than one week might not be enough.
Prep Work

Stew in your own juices

At the end of the extraction period, open the jar and pour the contents into another container through a cheesecloth or cotton fabric. Even an old pair of pantyhose will work ('sup AP).
Squeeze the remaining liquid from the wet herb into the container. Go ahead and dispose of the weed, it's devoid of all it's medicinal "goodness"...all the THC has been leeched out.

Okay, this step is optional. You will have about 150ml+ of THC infused rum marijuana tincture. This will be suitable for measuring out a half teaspoon or so or maybe a shot glass! But if you'd like to concentrate it, it can be administered with a dropper (you can buy vials with droppers at many health food stores as well as pharmacies). Look for a vial and dropper set that can hold about 100ml.
Wash out your mason jar and pour the filtered contents back in. cover the top with a clean cheesecloth and let it sit until the alcohol naturally evaporates, or alternately for a quicker run, place the jar in front of a gently running fan to speed up the evaporation. This is the "cold evaporation" method. There is a stove-top method of quickly boiling off alcohol which is perfectly safe, but I won't be going into that now. Slow and steady wins the race.

Try a half dropper full in your beverage of choice to start off with. Although you can administer the tincture sublingually for quicker effect, the rum might be too "spicy" on your tatse buds.

Be warned, THC products taken orally can require 30-90+ minutes to "kick in"...so don't go guzzling the whole thing if you don't blast off immediately.

I'll follow up with some pics of the finished product at a later date.

You're doing it wrong. I've made tinctures of indica aka the Green Dragon several times. The first thing you need to understand is decarboxylation. That is the base chemical reaction which converts THC-A(cid) found in the growing plant into useable, stony THC. This process is begun with the drying process and completed when you burn the weed. Unfortunately burning isn't very efficient and much of the usable THC content is destroyed.

If you want to make a proper tincture, here is what you do:

Preheat oven to 325

Grind up 1/8th ounce of high quality herb and spread it out on a foil lined baking sheet. Bake for five minutes. This jumpstarts decarboxylation without destroying the THC due to the quick duration of the cook.

Now place the weed into a small pan with four ounces pure, grain alcohol and heat in a double boiler to no more than 170 degrees for about 20 to 30 minutes and monitor temp with a candy thermometer. This will reduce the volume of alcohol without volatilizing off the THC. You should be left with roughly 2 oz of highly concentrated tincture.

The proof of the alcohol determines the degree of completion of the extraction. The lower the proof, the lower the extraction which is why Marty's method is only effective with nearly pure grain alcohol. Heat accelerates the rate of extraction and allows lower proof alcohol to be effective. Dosage depends on your tolerance. I usually needed about 4 ml to get a buzz. My OL who doesn't smoke at all was completely pole-axed in less than 45 minutes with a 1.5 to 2 ml dose.

IMO, the tincture of indica is a worthy natural analgesic/mild muscle relaxant for non-recreational users of weed or those who cannot smoke weed for whatever reason. If you are a recreationally oriented user, this will not be a cost effective means of delivery. Invest in a vaporizer. That is the point blank most efficient way to ingest. There is no waste.

And his is a bit crude and time consuming. Essential oil extraction by microwave is a fast, pure and easy way to get the oil out of the plant. There is a funded study at Oregon State University right now for essential oil extraction for mint, lavender and some other agricultural products. This study is putting a lot of money at it and will be watched closely by the heads currently trying it in the kitchen.

This system was already in use by some people to extract THC and is/was working quite well. Total output is rather low on volume, but it is some real potent stuff. An eye dropper with a drop under the tongue or on the tongue, maybe 2 at the most works real good. I am not out to "blast off", since there are people who use it for legitimate medical relief, and well, for the buzz too, and it saves the lungs from smoking that potent shit. Lasts about 4 hours.

While Marty's method may work for him, and props to him for sharing his research/methodology, the less chemical reactions and conversions I have, the better it is.
