British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico PET

So the wife and I headed off two weeks ago to the BVI for a little rest and relaxation. MV and others can have France, I will take the BVI over that pretentious chimney any day.

We left SA and connected in DFW to a flight to San Juan Puerto Rico. We departed DFW and flew east to the LA border before turning south east so as not to overfly Cuba. The route took us over the Mississippi river delta:

The we crossed FLA, before flying over the Bahamas:

We had a long connection in Puerto Rico of 6 hours so we went into old town and ate and toured the old fort:

Then it was off to Scrub Island, a private island in the BVI:

We chartered a boat and went to "the baths" on virgin gorda for the day. For some reason this is called whale rock:

The baths are an area of granite rocks that have resisted erosion right at the water's edge. Lots of little caves and tunnels:

After leaving the baths we went diving at the indians:

After diving it was off to Soggy Dollar Bar where we had multiple "Pain Killers":

We also tried paddle boarding at the resort:

Nice. That one photo is the famous "Turd Rock" right?

Yes, absolutely out kicked the coverage.

I didn't ask our "captain" about turd rock, but if we start calling it that I am sure it will catch on.

Been to the USVI, never to the BVI. Looks like a nice place.

Rack the PET.

Verrah nice PET. The Virgin Islands are awesome, whether on the B side or the A side.

Went to the BVI about 25 years ago on a "barefoot charter" with my parents and brother. Best vacation ever. We had a 40 foot sailboat for 10 days, and a guy who knew the area and how to sail. Went to The Baths, Virgin Gorda, and a bunch of places you pretty much have to have a boat to get to. One of the most memorable was Sidney's Peace and Love, at Little Harbor on Jost Van Dyke.

Apparently it's still there.

You park your boat in the little bay, row in to the dock and place your dinner order in the afternoon. Lobster, grouper or chicken. Then you come by later and eat at long tables and make your own drinks at a self-serve bar. At least that's how it was back in the 20th century. Everybody gets real drunk and the music gets loud.

What is the difference between the B and A side? I seriously want to go there.

British Virgin Islands vs. American (US) Virgin Islands

Of the main islands, St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix are American. Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada and Jost Van Dyke are British. Not exactly sure where the line is drawn, but they're all great places to visit.

How did an experienced pilot / flier like you end up with that seat next to the screaming engine?

Mikey,

Similar drill at Soggy Dollar. You anchor up in the sand then wade ashore, hence the soggy dollar name. Drinks weren't self serve though.

Derron,

Exit row. The wing provides a ton of buffering from the exhaust noise.
