Not that this thread had anything to do with it, but the wife cooked up a big pot of chili today. I think the weather going straight from summer to winter had more to do with it.

Texans are un-American? As a point of fact, ground beef has no place in chili either.

Well, there's chili...and then there's chili.

If you want something to pile on a hot dog then by all means, ground beef and some shit from an envelope.

Chili on the other had, while pretty fucking easy, is a bit more complicated.

Couldn't agree more Mvscal. Ground beef doesn't belong in Chili. And while we are at it Chili is spelled with only one "L" here. Maybe in OK they add an extra "L" along with beans. :grin:


Chili is short for chile con carne, or literally translated, chile peppers with beef. Notice it isn't chile con carne y frijoles, which would be with beans.


I bet all of you that like beans in your chili and or ground beef also enjoy chicken fajitas. :doh:

Carne actually means meat.

Beef is carne de res.

I usually use about 2/3 carne de res and about 1/3 carne de cerdo, in about 1/2" to 1" chunks.
