Yeah, he was a goof at times, but he loved college football as much as anybody, and any college football board should have word of his passing.

I was surprised to learn that he was only 81. I would have pegged him at much older than that.

as cartoonish as he became toward the end, hey Dick Vitale....loving even some of its teams more than others before it became so fashionable. he did love/or make a great living off the sport.

he was of an early ilk of national commentators without the internet so (amazingly) they had almost less regional or local knowledge than today. as tough as that may seem to be.

but they were bold about it. and they served their network masters.

i got nothing against Beano, though i did used to love to hear Bob Kemp rip ND in the Powlaus era (yeah, i know Terry, Killian, and ND fan et al was better than people remember). RIP.
