You can apply that principle to the southern part of the United States. I have been spending my working days speaking to and working with people from all over America. As a rule, I find folks from out west to be reasonably well educated and capable of expressing their thoughts in a coherent manner. The same goes for the upper Midwest and Northeast. On the other hand, our brethren from the Deep South and Appalachia are, shall we say, not exactly versed in the nuances of simple communication. Every time I see the area codes 304, 251, 828... pop up on my dialer, I just fucking cringe. Because I know that there is a 50% chance that I will be talking to some slack-jawed inbred mutant barely able to express even the simplest thoughts without mangling them beyond all recognition.

Where did you live? I lived in Nashville for 3 years, which is kind of northern south, but still considered "the south". If you lived down near the gulf coast, then yeah, it doesn't get cold there. Still gets nasty though. In act, I think southern winter weather is nastier than northern. There is nothing more miserable to be outside in than 36 degree rain. I'll take 26 and snowing any time.
