Scab dickiest of scab dick wins
That was ugly. Like 12 beers, 2am cave troll ugly. But ND is 9-0, and it's damn fun.
For ND fans, the past two games prove that Tommy Rees should rarely see the field. He's great for a drive or two, but the old Tommy showed up yesterday. The defense was flatter than the front row of a Justin Beiber concert, but came up huge when it mattered. Proof that there is no substitute for talent. ND has 3 first round draft picks in their front seven, and they all made big plays in the 4th quarter and OT.
But ND was very lucky to win that game. Fumble in OT, followed by Pitt missing a chip shot FG, where ND should have been flagged for having two #2's on the field at the same time.
Oregon would boat race ND. Alabama would in all likely hood pull away in the second half. KSU, I think ND would play with and could beat. So it's clear ND isn't one of the top two teams, and I'm ok with that. This season has already exceeded expectations, and I was wrong about Brian Kelly as a coach. It's clear to every ND fan that he has a plan that is working. It's not smoke and mirrors Bob Weisingham. I'll have to get used to being hated again. Should be fun.

We were looking forward to you never posting here again, since you only decided to show your pathetic face once they were 7-0 anyway.

What hurt worst; your "beloved" baseball team choking away a 6-0 lead in game 5, ND being 9-0, or tge fact that most here were actually happy to see me start posting again?Screw_Michigan wrote:
Since you have no college football team to cheer for yourself and instead have to just root against two teams, the ND being 9-0 has to be up there, but I don't think that's it. And because you've admitted your pro loyalty is entirely dependent upon what zip code your cardboard box blows into, I doubt it was the Nats historic choke job.
So that leaves it with me. I understand why you don't like me. My alma matter is your dream school that I got into as a "just in case" school. The thought never crossed my mind to apply to such a shitty school as Western. But I know you were sweating that thick envelope witk the KZoo stamp. And then in here, everytime you tried really hard to make a point, it usually ended with you coughing up splinters from the plungering you took.
Don't worry, Fredo. I haven't decided to ask you to go fishing. Yet.

There are any number of posters here who root for schools they never attended (including Mgo, IIRC), yet he singles you out for his disdain. The question you have to ask is, why? Methinks it has more to do with where you attended school than with who you root for. After all, ND football never would have become ND football without its subway alumni, and anyone with an ounce of knowledge of ND's football history and an ounce of objectivity should know that.
Nice recap of the game. And King Crimson nailed it as well -- you have to win before you worry about the other stuff. As Mayock said, one of the signs that you may have a special team is when you're able to pull out a win in a game where you're clearly outplayed. Hard to believe this is the same Pitt team that lost to Youngstown State in the beginning of the season. I'd like to say that ND won't have this kind of game again, but I can't say that confidently. Fredo is horrible -- much worse than Pitt, in fact -- but that game is their personal Super Bowl, and it'll be even bigger for them this season, what with no bowl game for them and us coming in undefeated. I can see them giving us all kinda fits. And USC's already had their hornet's nest poked three times, with two games ahead (Arizona State and UCLA) that are hardly guaranteed wins, so it'd make their whole season to beat us as well.
Nice (not really) to see Ken Doll in here to nip at my heels, btw.

Re: Scab dickiest of scab dick wins
anyway. the 2000 BCS Champ Sooners needed a FR db from Austin, Tx named Derrick Strait to out jump OK State TE Marcellus Rivers (i think).....on a fade route in the EZ to beat a crap Cowboy team in November. i think the pokes won 3 games that year. 12-7 might have been the score of that game. ugly shit.
a lot needs to happen for ND to jump into the BCS....but never know. right now, win is a win.
i'm unlikely pulling for K State but ND inna mix.

Re: Scab dickiest of scab dick wins
Haven't seen the DPI on the 4th and 4 play so I can't comment. I did look for it but couldn't find it.
Two horrible missed calls did go against Pitt though. The first was pointed out here which was having two players on the field at the same time wearing the same number. Should have been first and goal for Pitt.
The second miss was on ND's tying TD pass. The TV guys claim that it was supposed to be a run but the QB ended up throwing the ball. You can clearly see the WR #7 for ND blocking a Pitt player beyond the line of scrimmage on a pass play. Should have been OPI and and replay first and goal from the 19 or so.
Despite those misses, Pitt still could have won, and who knows what the officials missed against Pitt.

To me, the PI call looked like PI in real time, but not when I saw the replay in slo-mo. At the end of the day, the refs blew that call, but I've seen plenty of worse misses than that.

That's my first look at the play and there didn't appear to be any infraction, imo. Not unless something happened prior to the DB making the play.

Well, there's that too, but I meant something like holding occuring earlier in the play while the ball was in the air.Goober McTuber wrote:You mean like a referee getting an envelope stuffed with cash?Mace wrote:That's my first look at the play and there didn't appear to be any infraction, imo. Re: Scab dickiest of scab dick wins
There wasn't. I think what happened was Eifert flopped a little, and it was a 5'10" DB going against an AA TE who is 6'6", so the ref thought there was no way the,DB could have out jumped Eifert.
I thought it was a poorly officiated game all around.

Te'o for Heisman?
Screw that -- the refs have won more games for ND than Te'o has -- give them the Heisman.

Re: Scab dickiest of scab dick wins
Good points all around. And that only underscores that BC, bad as they are, could be a real test for ND this week.Papa Willie wrote:I'm not trying to suck up to ND or Killian here, but god damn, y'all. Most of these kids are teenagers! You knew ND would have their heads in the clouds after stomping OU's ass the week before. Another thing - you fuckers KNOW that over the last 10 years, Pitt is probably THE most Dr. Jekyl/My. Hyde teams in CF. Really doesn't surprise me that this was a close game. Still - ND pulled it out...
If nothing else, the Pitt game should have taught ND that they're not good enough to win merely by showing up for the game. Despite the talent mismatch, BC is a dangerous opponent for ND. As I said before, when you consider the way BC looks at this series, plus the fact that they can't go bowling this year, this will be their de facto bowl game. ND better show up ready to play, or we could see pretty much a carbon copy of last week.
Admittedly not the original point of your post, but . . .Dinsdale wrote:Te'o for Heisman?
Since you brought it up, I think you'll see that none of the ND fans on this board have gotten carried away with that.
Te'o is a great player, sure, but there have been plenty of great players on the defensive side of the ball. And no full-time defensive player has ever won the Heisman. The closest thing to it was Charles Woodson in '97, but even then Woodson was vital to Michigan's special teams and also played a fair amount at WR on offense.
Te'o will be invited to New York as one of the Heisman finalists, but won't win the award. And I'm fine with that. That alone is a major accomplishment for a defensive player.

Yes, because I was all by myself in thinking there was no reason for Notre Dame to remain anything but Notre Dame this season. I suppose I probably should have listened to you and everyone else in America who predicted a 9-0 start for the Irish.M Club wrote:probably another good time for terry to revisit all that vansense from the preseason.

no, but i didn't come off as a pompous douchebag all but guaranteeing notre dame would be lucky to finish with only four losses.

I notice you didn't disagree with my prediction either, and neither did anyone else here other than Terry. You had nothing to say then, so basically you should just continue to STFU.

Of course I didn't have much to say about ND. You'll notice that I, like all the others who had nothing to say, don't follow them enough to double down on any rando pre-season predictions as if I were making an argument based on actual facts and stuffs.
But Jesus, you're touchy.

Right, as if my predictions and those of everyone else who made similar predictions weren't based on actual facts and stuff...years and years of actual facts. It was all just a bizarre dislike of Irish people and the colors green, blue and gold.

Wow, you've gone from touchy to full on melodrama. Most people argue over predictions thusly:

Is no big deal, really. I just thought it'd be funny to revisit it for a laugh but you, apparently, are having a bad day.
