Once a cheater always a cheater... the U$C Story

So let's see... Lame Kiffin lied about voting U$C #1 so he lost his vote, feuding with the media, hiding and misreporting injuries, banning opposing team walk throughs, players swapping numbers against Colorado (obviously it was a test run for the Oregon or possibly the Notre Dame games. Why else would you possibly feel the need to cheat against a Division 2 team like Colorado ?), and now this...

Game Balls

By Jordan Moore

A USC football student manager has been relieved of all duties with the Trojan football team for intentionally deflating, below NCAA-regulated levels, some game footballs used by USC's team during the first half in last Saturday's game against Oregon.

Game officials discovered and re-inflated three of the balls before the game and two others at halftime. All balls were regulation in the second half.

When informed of this allegation by the Pac-12, USC investigated it immediately. The student manager confirmed that he had, without the knowledge of, or instruction from, any USC student-athlete, coach, staff member or administrator, deflated those game balls after they had been tested and approved by officials prior to the game.

As a result, the Pac-12 reprimanded USC and imposed a fine.

Kiffin didn't lose his vote, he said he didn't want it and shitcanned it.

This? Similar to the same-numbers-on-jerseys thing, it's just another big nothing.

An equipment manager attempting to rig a game is "nothing"?

You're not this dumb.

The bigger "nothing" would be to find out who told him to do it. There's a reason officials check the air pressure in the game balls before every contest and that's to ensure that it's a level playing field for both teams. There's a big difference in throwing, catching, kicking, a properly inflated ball as opposed to one that is even slightly deflated.

Exactly. You add up a bunch of little things, or in Van's biased view, "big nothings," then it's a problem. Kiffin is, at the VERY least, one shady ass motherfucker.

Well, in Kiffin's defense, there is a tradition to carry on there.

No, they wouldn't. Thet have little to no depth because of the sanctions and don't tackle in practice because they can't afford to get anyone hurt.

My guess is they will keep Kiffin around for another year or two because he's a lights out recruiter. Then they will fire him, get a real coach and be back to normal in about 5 years post-Kiffin.

I will agree that kicking and catching a less than full ball are easier. Throwing a ball that is less than full is harder though, unless the QB has small hands. In that case a slightly deflated ball is easier to grip and spin.

Someone check Barkley's hands.

As an official I have a hard time believing that this direction would come from someone on the coaching staff. Stand on a sideline for just a few plays and you will see how many officials handle each game ball. For most runs or passes outside the hashes the ball is changed and the new ball usually makes it to the umpire via two other officials. Any one of those officials could reject any ball not up to regulation.

While most of the Yahoo Sports columnists are complete hacks (particularly the Fresno crew), Pat Forde isn't so bad.

This one will be in the ball bag tomorrow as Barkley tries desperately to remain in the Heisman discussion.
