CIA Dir. Gen. Petraeus resigns

He submitted his resignation and cited an extra-marital affair as the reason.
WASHINGTON - The CIA director said he was resigning because he had exercised "extremely poor judgment' in conducting an extramarital affair.
In a statement to the CIA workforce, Petraeus wrote, "Yesterday afternoon, I went to the White House and asked the president to be allowed, for personal reasons, to resign from my position as D/CIA. After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair. Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours."
"Dave's decision to step down represents the loss of one of our nation's most respected public servants," Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said in a statement. "From his long, illustrious Army career to his leadership at the helm of CIA, Dave has redefined what it means to serve and sacrifice for one's country.".
White House spokesman Jay Carney did not provide any details but said: "We'll have something from the president on it today."
According to NBC News, Mike Morrell, the deputy CIA director and a longtime CIA officer, is a likely to take over as "acting director but with the understanding that he may be elevated to the job permanently at some point."
Petraeus took over as head of the CIA in September of 2011. Before taking over the CIA, he had led the surge into Iraq under former President Bush.
According to ABCNews.com, his wife, Holly, has worked with the Obama administration "to help military families."

Instead, we'll get the details about the obama holiday plans and how the economy continues to "bounce" back....

The ranking Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee said he’s spoken to former CIA Director David Petraeus about still testifying on the Benghazi attack — and the answer is not now.
Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) said on ABC’s This Week this morning that his committee wasn’t told about the Petraeus investigation — reportedly centering around his mistress and emails — until Friday, when the general’s resignation was announced.
“He and I have already had a conversation. You know, he’s trying to put his life back together right now and that’s what he needs to focus on,” Chambliss said in regard to Thursday’s closed-door Benghazi hearing, at which Petraeus was supposed to testify.
Just when you think it couldn't get any more pathetic. Poor little guy can't testify because he's "trying to put his life back together."
Wonder how that would work for his former subordinates. "Sorry, sir. I can't deploy to Afghanistan right now because I'm trying to put my life back together. Maybe some other rotation."
