I think Florida wouldn't lose to any of those other 9 teams... they'd get destroyed by any of those 9 other teams.
My 10:
1-10 Oregon
11 KSU
12 ND
13 Bama
14 Who Cares?

1. K-State - best team in the best conference. this is a no brainer.
2. Oregon - can score at will on anybody. can also be scored on by anybody.
3. Notre Dame - tough year to be the 3rd place undefeated team.
4. Alabama
5. LSU
6. Georgia
7. Oklahoma
8. Clemson
9. FSU
10. ATM

Some of you are pretty funny.
Oregon kicked the ball to Kal 12 freaking times. 12 possessions, 2 TDs and a FG. 2-12 on 3rd down.
3 scores in 12 possessions. They averaged less than 30 yards a possession.
With defensive linemen numbers 1-5 not playing. Most of the defense was second-stringers.
What does the Oregon defense have to do... cure cancer?

1. Kansas State - they were #2 in the BCS last week and should be the heir apparent to the top slot.
2. Oregon - moving up from #3 after 'Bama's loss.
3. Notre Dame - only other undefeated with little hope of playing in the title game, barring some major upsets.
4. Alabama - the only 1 loss team with a chance to play for the NC.
No one else matters at this point.

Smart money says that after poll average, Oregon will be #1 in the BCS (and won't look back).

If any of the top 3 lose, UGA isn't out of it.
Unlikely, but a possibility.

Good quote, but we already know how Florida would do against one of those teams. They would beat them on the road.

The computers don't like Oregon as much as KSU and I don't think a win over Cal will change that. They'll be #1 in the Harris and AP but the computers won't likely follow suit.....at least they haven't in past weeks. Oregon averaged .850 in the computers last week while KSU was at .940, and I think KSU's win over TCU will get them enough respect from the computers to move them to #1. Hell, the computers even like ND more than Oregon.

DuckFan needs to stop whining and look at the objective criteria. Both KSU and Oregon are 10-0. All things being equal record-wise, the team with the tougher SOS should be #1. That's KSU. Now, Oregon potentially has three consecutive games against ranked opponents. They need to take care of business before they start quibbling between who should be #1 and #2.

Why doesn't the same criteria apply for Notre Dame?

key word in the above sentence: "Kal", not exactly an offensive juggernaut by any measure. How did that defense do a week earlier against USC?

I dunno', but even Cal was running the ball down their throat last night.
Maybe the Duck offense shouldn't score so fast, give them more of a breather. I really want to see them play KSU for all the marbles. They won't have that problem then, I reckon.

5. Alabama. Still a good team, but weren't ready for Johnny Football.
6. Georgia. Have bounced back from the SC lost.
7. LSU.
8. Florida State.
9. Clemson.
10. Florida. Come the fuck on.

Because everybody knows (even ND fans) they're a distant third. Both KSU and Oregon pass the eye test with flying colors...so really, it's only fair to use SOS as the determinant for who should be #1 and #2.

I'd put ND in the same conversation.... if they didn't come within an eyelash of losing to Pitt and needed 3 OT's to barely escape. Hell, Killian... didn't you start a thread calling that a "scabdick" win?
But yeah, they beat Oklahoma in Norman and in even more impressive fashion than KSU did.

A big problem for ND is that too many folks saw the Pitt game and it will be difficult for them to overcome. Barring one of the top 2 losing a game, the Irish are screwed.

I agree, but if SOS is used, ND had the other teams beaten hands down.

I'd say that ND has had scabdick wins against Purdue, BYU, and Pitt...with possibly a couple more to add to the list. The win over OU was the only one to really hang your hat on.....and maybe Stanford.

Good offense, good defense, good special teams, don't commit penalties, dominate turnover margin, have a proven head coach and an experienced, dynamic quarterback who can make plays. What's not to like?

Didn't say there wasn't anything to like, just don't get all the love. They've done all of that against a fairly weak schedule, including a 1AA team.
ND has scab dick wins, mainly because of a rFr, first time starter at QB. I don't see much diffrence between struggling with Pitt, Purdue and BYU, and struggling with ISU and beating North Texas only by 14.

If you're trying to convince anyone ND should be ranked ahead of KSU, that's not really helping.

I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. I just wanted to know why one standard is used for two teams, but not a third. I fully understand that ND will need one of the teams in front of them to lose.

At this point, I consider Oregon and KSU to be in a tier of their own, so I look to objective data like SOS to rank them accordingly.

The computers have actually liked ND more than KSU but the Irish haven't passed the eye test for the human polls.

ND's SOS, by itself and nothing more, compares favorably to those other teams. But I don't think ND is as good as either one, so it doesn't carry as much weight for me. If I considered ND to be in the same tier as KSU and Oregon, I would have them #1 or #2.

I don't think the Pitt game hurt them all thst much. ND was going to need 2 teams to lose once MSU and the rest of the Big 10 decided to play to the level of the Big East.
Mgo, that's where we disagree. I think Oregon is on another level and ND and KSU are very comparable, with ND acomplishing more of note. Common opponents, SOS both side with ND.

I don't think so. Oregon can't go any higher in the human polls and will get the benefit in the computers. I doubt voters would bump ND past Oregon, even if they struggle with Stanford.

As I said earlier, the computers don't like Oregon (at this point anyway) and it's keeping them out of the #1 position. ND's problem is just the opposite....computers like them better than the other two teams but they don't pass the eye test of the human voters.

Oregon's got potentially three ranked teams left on their schedule, including the Pac 12 CCG. They don't need to worry about anything as long as they win out.

If I had a vote, the way I would approach my rankings would be to sort teams into tiers based on eye test, and then use objective data to sort those that I feel are on equal footing. If ND was ranked ahead of KSU, I don't think it would be any great travesty, but I wouldn't agree with it.

I'd feel a whole lot more charitable towards KSU if they hadn't scheduled their way into as few potential losses as possible, beginning with the pussified Bill Snyder move of chickening out against Oregon. Had they simply honored that commitment we'd already have this three-team deal down to two teams.
ND has played the tougher schedule while being the Super Bowl game for most every team they've faced this season. Fuck Snyder's Path of Least Resistance garbage. It should not be rewarded.

Really? 17-14 at half time seems to me like the game was never in doubt.

Or when ISU scored to cut it to a 3 point game in the 4th, totally in control.
Did you quit watching the game before or after ISU got the ball back with over two minutes to go with a chance to win? Hell, by your definition, aTm had nothing to worry about with Bama. That interception at the goal line and offsides on 4th down were just icing on the cake.
